18-year-old Alex Davies had not been seen since he left home in Skelmersdale on Monday afternoon, getting a taxi to Parbold railway station.

Work colleagues from Home Bargains spoke to the ECHO on Thursday evening, appealing for help to find the teenager.

But it has now emerged that the body of a man discovered off Parbold Hill in West Lancashire on Wednesday afternoon is that of Alex.

Lancashire Constabulary said a post-mortem examination had been carried out but the force could not release details of the teenager's injuries for "operational reasons".

DCI Hurst added his force are keeping an open mind for the reason why Alex was in the Parbold area but thought he may have been meeting someone.

He said they are carrying out CCTV and door-to-door enquiries in the area to try and piece together Alex’s movements and identify his killer.

"That was on Station Road in Parbold, near the railway bridge.

"We want to hear from anyone who knew Alex, or know of any issues or concerns he had.

"We believe Alex was attacked in the wooded area and we have a number of lines of enquiry.

“Alex was the victim of a brutal and prolonged attack in which he sustained numerous and significant injuries.”

He also had a blue and brown Kipling backpack and was wearing headphones.

Police cordoned off two areas of field - one leading up towards Wrightington and a further field towards High Moore Lane.

The article also talks more about his hobby.

I wonder if there is a link between him last being seen on a railway bridge and his hobby.

Also how far from the bridge to where he was found? I'll see if I can work out where those woods are.

So it's woods off Parbold Hill
