It makes me sad that people are still posting here saying they're just now finding out DNV's car's been found!! I REALLY wish we were able to get this on the "announcement" bar at the top of the Websleuths page- I tried, but never heard back from any mods.
@whatinthekentuckyhell ah I didn't think about the fact he could have had his own car waiting at the rental place duhhh!! That makes sense, thank you!! I feel dumb now.

Okay commenting on today's stuff.
The NBC15 article is saying that they spoke with LE at the time her car was found and that the "early investigation" said this was an accident. So why did LE say they were investigating it as a homicide after the car was found???
Police: Danniella Vian death likely an accident

(ETA I wanted to emphasize this is a hypothetical question- we have not heard directly from LE since the car has been found-they have not told us the COD or anything yet)
What if there is a press conference this afternoon, LE says autopsy is finished, tox screen is finished, investigation is finished. They come on screen and say this was an accident and DNV drove herself into the bayou. Is that it????? Are we just supposed to accept that and move on??????? This is the first case I've been deeply emotionally involved in and I just don't think I could handle that, but I guess it's time to start considering it. Would we get to know any evidence or hear any results of any tests?? Those of you who have been in this situation before, what can we potentially expect if this is deemed an accident by LE?

I am with you. The evidence of this being an accident will have to be pretty clear for me to accept and move on.

Me too. While I know it's possible to have a tragic string of coincidences, I need convincing. I need proof.

ETA: NBC 15 said: "manipulations of instrumentation inside the car that could only have occurred after the car entered the water." What could those manipulations be? The car being in park?

I mean so we're supposed to believe she is blackout drunk enough to drive into a river and drown but sober enough to drive at least 26 minutes through quiet residential streets she was unfamiliar with without hitting anything or making any noise and silently drive her car into the river and put it in park.

If she drove her car into the river and put it in park, wouldn't that be a suicide? Something stinks.

What are the "mechanisms" in a car? Gear shift (D/P/N/R), blinkers, wipers, windows? For any of them except D/P, how could you even tell when they were turned on or off? So the media knows but isn't telling?

The only one that makes sense to me is that the car was found in Park because it would be hard to push the car into the water if it were in Park. But someone else could have been in the car with her, put the car in park, and got out before it sank fully. Plus, if the car was in Park I would think they would lean towards a suicide.

Agree with everything you said. I could see it being a suicide before I could ever see it being an accident, JMO.

I know that in previous threads there was a lot of discussion about the GPS and where it pinged, how it was disabled, etc. I'm being lazy, but can anyone remind me if the info we "know" about the disabled GPS that has been confirmed by LE? I have not seriously considered this case as an accident and am trying to think through that now. Is it possible that the GPS device was disabled when the car was submerged in the water? Maybe that was not a separate event at all?

Hey all, I'm new to websleuths but i live local amd grew up where she was found.
I've been following this case on fb groups pretty closely and the car being in park is the first Ive heard of it. Where did that info come from? I'm curious bc I've heard ppl asking about it but it never being answered. I've also heard ppl asking if the car was in reverse or etc. I've always thought the car had to be in drive or neutral to go into the water. I guess I just cant wrap my mind around the car being in park bc how else would the wheels be able to move. I cant see someone taking the time to put the car in park before jumping out. I dont know.....help me understand please lol. This case has had my emotions all over the place.

Also, did anyone ever confirm or debunk the theory about her "last GPS ping" being downtown in a parking garage on Dauphin St.?
No one has been able to answer this for me.
I dont believe this was an accident by no means. I have talked to TT and he said she would never have done this willingly.

Being local, I *heard* last weekend from someone who knows one of the first responders at the scene personally. This first responder said the car was in park. I’ve refrained from posting as that is just hearsay. BUT...i don’t believe it was intentionally put in park regardless of if she did it or someone else who could’ve been in the car. I know when my car is in neutral it’s easy just to bump it into park, doesn’t require the brake to be pushed. Going from drive to park (at least in my car) requires the brake to be pushed.

I truly believe this wasn’t an accident. I know people have mentioned ocam’s razor, but abduction fits Occam’s razor scenario more in this situation. JMO

Welcome Alicia! JDT originally stated the last ping was in the parking garage downtown, she later stated this was a misunderstanding, misinformation, etc.

Edit by me as it made zero sense.

I updated my post to clarify I was speculating the car was in park based on NBC 15's statement today that there were "'manipulations of instrumentation inside the car' that could only have occurred after the car entered the water."

Do you feel he's a trustworthy source of information? Does he have any ideas/thoughts about what happened? I remember LE making a comment that some people had been willing to work with LE and others were less willing (I forget the exact words, but that was the gist), has he been pretty forthcoming with LE?

The Mobile Police Department released the following statement Tuesday:

Based on autopsy results, Danniella Vian’s cause of death is undetermined. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the condition as to how Vian’s car was found in Bayou Sara is consistent with that of an accident. The investigation into her death will remain ongoing.

Police: Danniella Vian death likely an accident

Thanks for posting the link. I don't understand why they would say this without releasing the information. Especially NBC 15 saying they know what specific thing makes the police think this was an accident but they won't say what it is. Are they just signalling they're well connected?:rolleyes:

How does someone lose their phone, drive to a gas station out of the way, disconnect their GPS then drive from Hwy 90, 20 minutes + North to a obscure boat ramp in the middle of no where with the driver's side back window half way down and put their car into the water and drown? None of that adds up at all.

Anyone else's heart skip a beat (not right wording...stomach jump to their throat might be more appropriate) when they read the original post to this??

Would love to hear more about TT and your thoughts @Alicia Young including everything @Keyedin asked here.
What is your level of relationship to him? When did you last speak with him? Has LE been keeping him updated? Or are they being tight-lipped to everyone?
Have you looked into becoming a Verified Insider here on Websleuths? Does this count as a VI?? My head is currently swimming right now.

  • DNA swab results aren't back yet but they are confident it's DNV based on her clothing description from that night. Probably also why they immediately assumed it was an adult female.
  • All evidence collected so far has indicated to MPD that it was an accidental event, although it is still an active investigation. Chief wanted to let the public know that "we're not looking for someone that is going around abducting women so that there's not a level of fear from people in our community that that is happening."
  • Can't provide any details about why they think it's an accident because they're still working on it, but Chief noted that people who have been to the scene may have noticed some of the reasons that they think it was an accident. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....
  • The manner of death to this point is Undetermined, still pending toxicology.
  • "The information we have to this point, and again information can change, but the information we have until this point I feel confident standing here telling the listening audience that we're not looking for someone going around abducting women."
  • Detectives reached out to DNV's mother and told her their thoughts on the case thus far.
  • Chief: 1. Trust us. 2. The facts will be the facts.
  • "We're at the mercy of the specialists." - regarding how long it will be to get tox report back

And what about the surveillance from the Shell station? what was on it that it had to be pulled from the media? if it was an accident , and there isn't any type of foul play on it, then why not release the video to the public?

My thoughts exactly and why have they been so tight lipped from the beginning if there was a remote chance that it could have been an accident. Why state at the recovery that this was being investigated as a homicide ?

  • "The information we have to this point, and again information can change, but the information we have until this point I feel confident standing here telling the listening audience that we're not looking for someone going around abducting women."

I find this quote interesting, because he mentioned this more than once. I have not heard or seen any references to "there is someone going around abducting women", I have not seen that in any discussions here locally that would warrant repeating this statement multiple times.

According to sources, there are certain "manipulations of instrumentation inside the car" that could only have occurred after the car entered the water. While NBC 15 is aware of what this information is, we are withholding that information until the investigation is concluded.

These manipulations, whatever they are, and if correct, suggest only that Danni tried to escape the car. This does not narrow down an accident in any way. A suicide could have a person try to escape once they begin drowning.

And a man can knock a woman out or partially conscious, and send the car into the water. Then the woman becomes conscious once the water wakes her up, and she tries to get out.
