“Prosecutors will seek the death penalty for a man charged with murdering his girlfriend, her two children and the girlfriend’s mother in December.”

“St. Charles County Prosecutor Tim Lohmar announced at a news conference Monday his office’s intent to seek the death penalty for Richard Emery, 47.”

Richard Darren Emery, of St. Charles, was charged with 15 crimes in a crime spree that police say included the murder of his girlfriend, her two children and her mother; a stabbing during an attempted carjacking; and a shootout with police.


“A grand jury issued an indictment Friday for Emery on 15 counts including charges of first-degree murder, armed criminal action, first-degree assault and first-degree attempted robbery. The indictment mirrors charges filed by Lohmar’s office in December.”

With two prior divorces, there may be some clues with his ex wives. I wonder if he had any children? He was living in her house, so if she told him to get out, or if there was jealousy it might have triggered him. I'm sure they'll rule out brain tumor, especially if they go for the death penalty, which he deserves, IMO. I would think he has told someone how horribly misunderstood he was and try to explain the unexplainable. Narcissists always blame their victims.

Kasten (10) & Kate Kasten (39) (mom of kids) (Dec. 28, 2018, St. Charles; shot) - *Richard Darren Emery (46) (BF of mom) charged (12/29/18) & indicted (4/12/19) with 4 counts of 1st degree murder, 7 counts of felony armed criminal action, 3 counts of 1st degree assault (attempt-serious physical injury/special victim) & 1 count of 1st degree attempted robbery. No bond. DA will seek DP.
Officers arriving after a hysterical 911 call (midnight Friday 12/28) — in which the dispatcher could hear several shots being fired in the background — spotted a vehicle leaving near the crime scene at a high rate of speed, said cops. Police fired at the fleeing vehicle, believed to be driven by the killer. One of the cops’ cruisers was riddled with bullet holes. Soon after, a suspect matching the same description of the suspected killer tried to carjack a woman. He stabbed the female driver before zooming away, said investigators. She is expected to recover. Seven hours later, the bleeding man was tracked down to a convenience store, where he was arrested.

2/26/19 Update: Case continued to 3/26. 3/26/19: Hearing has been continued to 4/30. This hearing has been cancelled.
4/12/19 Update: Grand jury indicted Emery on 15 counts. DA will seek the DP. New charge. Arraignment hearing on 5/10.

"ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The man accused of killing four family members in St. Charles has pleaded not guilty."

"Richard Emery is accused of killing his girlfriend, her two children and her mother in December 2018. The victims were later identified as Zoe J. Kasten, 8, Jonathan Kasten, 10, Jane Moeckel, 61, and Kate Kasten, 39."

"Friday, Emery’s attorney appeared in court to enter a not guilty plea on his behalf."

No further information on court dates.
