Has she actually made a legal claim?

Honey apparently promised the money.

Honey didn’t inherit from Barry. It was all a spousal trust. Her estate would not have the capacity or legal requirement to pay it.

It’s all sourced information in the Star, not tested in court, so we don’t know.

They had joint holdings, but we know at least the new home was in Honey’s name only.

My point was if this was staged to look like a m/s I would think the ‘murderers’ estate might be open to claims from the victim’s loved ones. Eg: Mary.

Not qualified to argue with you, stepping off here... : )

Sorry if this is a re-post—

Just following up on BS’s business associate Frank D’Angelo.

His restaurant has closed.

In looking for more information I found that the Star’s Kevin Donovan and uniformed police attended the 2018 premiere of D’Angelo’s movie.

In attendance with and seated next to Frank D’Angelo at tonight’s Italian Contemporary Film Festival screening of THE JOKE THIEF (2018) is Toronto Star investigative reporter Kevin Donovan.

Kevin Donovan is now holding court with Daniel Baldwin, something I could never have imagined typing.

There was a two man police detail in the theatre and now at Frank’s restaurant, the Forget About It Supper Club. I asked one of the officers why there was a detail: “Because he wanted one.”

Interesting!
Could it be that FD'A is one of the people worried about personal security if details about the will ect. are released?
speculation, imo.

Barry Sherman’s son raised concerns about Apotex founder’s investment strategy and business competence: Sources
By Kevin DonovanChief Investigative Reporter
Thu., June 27, 2019
In the spring of 2015, upset with what he saw as reckless business decisions, Apotex billionaire Barry Sherman’s son Jonathon floated the idea to his three siblings that their father was incompetent and unable to manage the family’s business affairs, according to three sources with knowledge of the matter.

This came at a time when Jonathon and Barry were having tense discussions about how the Sherman family fortune should be spent. Specifically, according to an email exchange he had with Barry over two days, Jonathon disagreed with what he saw as his father’s reliance on “gut” feelings instead of sound business plans. Jonathon also wanted more money invested with his own ventures, and less with his father’s friend, businessman Frank D’Angelo.

Barry Sherman’s son raised concerns about Apotex founder’s investment strategy and business competence: Sources | The Star

“Jonathon is talking with his siblings and he wants me declared incompetent and locked up,” according to one person who discussed this with Barry in 2015.

ETA:

The email regarding Barry’s competency, along with the 2015 email correspondence between Barry Sherman and his son, are in the hands of police, sources say.

In a letter to the Star, lawyer Brian Greenspan suggested that information the Star has seen reflects “a reliance upon information which we believe came into the possession of your so-called sources unlawfully.”

Non paywall version.

If Jonathan and his partner had such great business sense, why did they keep going to Barry for financing?

One quibble with the article. Just because a mortgage is registered in a certain amount doesn’t mean that is the amount actually advanced. A mortgage may have a face value of $500K when only $300K is advanced. It is done to prevent further borrowing on the equity in the property.

As has been said, follow the money. Who benefitted the most financially from these murders.?
I agree completely with your comments about js and questioning his business acumen or lack thereof.
And his questioning his fathers investments and competency is apalling, and a reflection of his lack of character imo. Barry earned the money, he could spend it as he pleased. Js appears entitled beyond words.

In the Star article above, JS asks Barry to explain the approximate 250 million Barry had given Frank D’A. Frank told the Star that figure was far too high, completely wrong.

JS seems to be correct.

In an article from 2015, just after the above email exchange, Frank discussed his film budget which did not align with Barry’s estimate of 1 million per film, with 50% of that supplied by grants:

D'Angelo won't disclose his budgets, only that they're over $5-million. "You can spend $2-million with your eyes closed," he says.

Add to that Frank’s bankruptcy:

At the time of the $120-million 2007 bankruptcy, Sherman was really the only creditor, and held the paper on everything Frank owned, including his home at the time, in Toronto’s Forest Hill neighbourhood.

Their business past was a disappointment, he acknowledges. “Some calculation errors were made that resulted in a substantial loss,” says Sherman, specifying that D’Angelo spent far too much promoting his brands and not enough distributing them.

A meal with Frank D'Angelo: Pitchman, entrepreneur, auteur - Macleans.ca

After the murders I had wondered if BS had called in his loans or hinted that he may be cutting him off.

Wow! Interesting!

I suspect Jack Kay is feeding Donovan info. He must have no regard for Jonathan.
How would Kay have access to the emails among family members? BS might have shown him his correspondence with his son, but how would he see what JS sent to his sisters?

This Star article is surprising. Risking a libel suit by JS, they must be really sure of their grounds, and/or some movement on the case is imminent.

Didn’t say he was his sole source, or for the emails.

But Kay wouldn’t like being fired by him.

Surprised (and disappointed) that the article was not included in today's hard copy of the Star....
Three people know of the emails, wonder who? rbbm.
"How sharper than a serpent's tooth" imo.

Barry Sherman’s son raised concerns about Apotex founder’s investment strategy and business competence: Sources
"Soon after these tense discussions between father and son in the spring of 2015, Jonathon sent an email to his sisters, with a subject line that referred to them as fellow shareholders. In the email, Jonathon suggested their father’s actions were jeopardizing their inheritance, according to three people who saw the email at the time and discussed its contents with Barry Sherman. Jonathon’s email referred to Barry as the founder, a reference to his founding of generic drug giant Apotex, which he grew into a multibillion-dollar enterprise over 43 years. The Star has not seen this email but its content has been described to the Star by three people.

Barry, who got a copy of the email after it was sent by Jonathon, was taken aback when he read its contents. Barry talked to three people close to him about the email, saying to one:

“Jonathon is talking with his siblings and he wants me declared incompetent and locked up,” according to one person who discussed this with Barry in 2015."
