Double murderer charged in 1988 cold case killing, may be linked to 5 other slayings
Regis Brown, 59, is serving life without parole after he was arrested this March for the brutal slayings of his wife, Michelle Brown, and stepdaughter, Tammy Greenawalt, Pennsylvania State Police trooper Joe Vascetti told ABC News on Thursday.

Immediately after his arrest for the March crimes, Brown confessed to the cold case killing of 45-year-old Bryce Tompkins, Vascetti said.

"He has either confessed to, been arrested for, or is a strong suspect in eight homicides right now," including those three, Vascetti said. He declined to release more information citing the ongoing investigations.

State police: Brown suspect in five other homicides

Other articles state he could be responsible for up to 8 additional homicides.

Pa. Man Charged In Connection To 1988 Cold Case, Suspected In Multiple Other Homicides
Brown was arrested in 2018 for allegedly murdering his wife and stepdaughter in Erie County in March, and officials say Brown has been arrested for, confessed to or is a strong suspect in eight homicides in northwestern Pennsylvania dating from 1986 to 2016. Further details are not available because the investigations are ongoing.

Officials say Brown also may be tied to or have information related to an additional six to eight homicides.

Man confesses to 30-year-old killing. Police say he is a suspect in more deaths
Regis Brown, 59, admitted to killing Bryce Kenneth Tompkins, 45, whose body was found by hunters partially submerged in Neshannock Creek in Lawrence County in December 1988, authorities said. He told police that Tompkins was killed because he witnessed a burglary.

Brown was sentenced last month in the March deaths of his wife, Michelle Brown, 53, and his stepdaughter, Tammy Greenawalt, 35.

Brown is considered a suspect in as many as eight other cold cases, Vascetti told CNN. Altogether, he said, Brown may have information about as many as 15 other killings.

Updating thread with some new links.

Is the trial going on because he recanted his early confession to killing Bryce Tompkins or is it for a different victim?

Thank you for listing all the motions and hearings. They are very helpful. When I went into the docket though, I couldn't find which victim the trial was for (unless I missed it). Since he could be charged with the murder of more victims in this thread, it would be helpful when posting a listing to add the victims name once in awhile so we would know which trial is going on. I was assuming it was for the Bryce Tompkins murder until I saw in a link that he had already confessed. I admit that I never did find his sentence for it so now I am thinking maybe he recanted.

Regis Brown pleaded guilty in the killings of his wife and stepdaughter.
Trucilla sentenced Brown to life in prison without parole plus 20 to 40 years, the maximum possible sentence allowed by law.

Testimony: Double murderer also confessed to Erie killing

A double murderer's confession to a third killing has created a strange wrinkle in the conviction of the man who pleaded guilty to the slaying, in which the victim's body was burned at an east Erie apartment.

John E. Poole Jr., 38, is serving 30 to 60 years in state prison for the death of 42-year-old Robert McCarthy in February 2017.

But Poole has asked a judge to take another look at the case after learning that Regis A. Brown, 60, confessed to killing McCarthy when state police interviewed Brown in September 2018.
[.....]
Brown is serving life in prison for fatally stabbing his stepdaughter, 35-year-old Tammy Greenawalt, and bludgeoning to death his wife, 53-year-old Michele Brown, at their residence on West Ridge Road in Fairview Township in March 2018. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced in September 2018.
