Since the day Lori Loughlin and her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, were indicted in the massive college admissions scandal, the couple has been doing their best to keep their lives as normal as possible.

But as they await their next court date, which is set for Jan. 17, what was supposed to be a quiet lull in the legal storm quickly turned to panic on Oct. 22, when the prosecution surprised them with a third federal charge.

The new charges means it’s likely that Loughlin and Giannulli’s case will wind up in trial, said former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani, who tried drug and fraud cases when he was in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Diego from 2010 to 2012 and who is in private practice in Los Angeles.

The new charge accuses Loughlin and Giannulli of bribing University of Southern California employees to get their daughters admitted to the school.

Loughlin and her husband previously pleaded not guilty in April to charges of conspiracy to commit fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

The charge of federal programs bribery is defined as a bribe of anything valued of at least $5,000 at an organization that receives more than $10,000 from the federal government, which would include USC and other universities implicated in the alleged scam.

Lori Loughlin Pleads Not Guilty to New Charges in College Admissions Case. Could Her Daughters Be Charged?

I just really can't believe the depth of denial here. Is it narcissism to the "nth degree"? Thinking that they won't be convicted? The lies are so outrageous and completely blatant. It is obvious that neither daughter is on the crew team.

Their legal team must be following the same strategy as the team for Cosby, let the client direct the choice of defense, and just keep running a very steep bill. Cosby told his legal team that he wanted a trial and no plea deal. He got his wish. He is now incarcerated.

Agree with you. If you missed these they are interesting. How can MG explain away his e-mailed comment? (2nd article)

So Apparently Lori Loughlin Didn't Plead Guilty in the College Admissions Scandal Because of Her Husband

However, Lori ended up pleading not guilty, and it looks like that's because of her husband. A source shared with Us, "

Lori Loughlin's Husband Allegedly Emailed He 'Had to Work the System'

According to the docs ... Mossimo forwarded a $200,000 invoice he got from Rick Singer to his accountant for payment in April 2017 and wrote, "Good news my daughter...is in SC... bad is I had to work the system."

“Lori turned the corner and backed out of considering a guilty plea due to her husband’s insistence,” the source said. “She had been talking to her lawyers about it, but her friends and family were encouraging her to pursue a plea deal. She’s only listening to Mossimo though.”

On Oct. 22, prosecutors brought the new bribery charges. The new charges came as a “surprise” and left Loughlin, her husband and their “entire family in chaos,” People magazine reported.

“They knew this was a possibility, but they thought perhaps it was just a bargaining tool from the prosecution. Now that the charges are official, they are realizing that there is no way to avoid a moderately long prison sentence, unless they are found not guilty in a trial.”

Loughlin continues to insist on her innocence and to want people to believe that she was duped by “unscrupulous people,” a source said

“Does she regret not taking the deal? Of course she does, because it would have been easier,” the source added.

Now Loughlin is left feeling “absolutely terrified and extremely vulnerable,” another insider said.

Another source added to Us Weekly that Loughlin was “inclined” to take a plea deal, but Giannulli insisted, “It would ruin both of their careers.”

Lori Loughlin's husband reportedly stopped plea deal

A longtime friend of Lori Loughlin said the actress fears going to prison and that “she’s at rock bottom, devastated. She knows she could go away for a long time and it’s terrifying for her.”

The longtime friend said that Loughlin and Giannulli’s marriage is “beyond strained” because of the scandal. “All she wanted was the best for her daughters and she wishes people would see that. She definitely regrets the way she’s handled herself since all this came out.”

“The entire family is in chaos right now” following the recent charges, too.

“They knew this was a possibility, but they thought perhaps it was just a bargaining tool from the prosecution. Now that the charges are official, they are realizing that there is no way to avoid a moderately long prison sentence, unless they are found not guilty in a trial.”

A plea deal would "ruin" their careers? Buddy, that ship has already sailed.
