 €1 Billion jewel heist?!

Famous diamond worth £9m was among treasures stolen from Dresden museum

A famous diamond worth more than £9m is among treasures stolen from a Dresden museum, it has emerged.

It was originally thought that the Green Vault’s most valuable gemstones were safe following a spectacular robbery at the museum.

Dresden White diamond is among items missing
The Dresden Green is believed to be safe because it was on loan to the Metropolitan Musuem in New York at the time of the robbery.

 'Thankfully' it was the White Diamond & not the Green Diamond, I guess.

 Why the Green Vault is Europe's treasure chest

The Green Vault in Dresden Castle -- from which thieves have stolen around 100 pieces -- houses one of the largest collections of treasure in Europe, with its spectacular baroque chambers filled with jewels and objets d'art.

Grünes Gewölbe
The Green Vault stands out as the jewel-box of Europe for its exceptional art and architecture, and its representation of one of the world's great cultural cities.

In the early 18th century, Augustus the Strong, ruler of Saxony, worked to establish Dresden as a major center for the arts, inviting talented sculptors, goldsmiths and painters to take up residence. He commissioned a series of magnificent rooms to showcase his valuables as a way of advertising the city's cultural prominence in addition to its wealth.
The result was the Green Vault, the first public museum in Europe. It is an astounding collection of ornaments, ranging from shimmering bowls carved out of crystal and agate to jeweled gold figurines to the Dresden Green, the largest and finest green diamond in the world.

The Queen reads every letter she’s sent while sitting in her favourite chair & they’re kept in wicker basket next to it

AS the head of the Royal Family, The Queen receives a mind-boggling amount of letters from the public each and every day.

Her Majesty can reportedly get up to 300 letters a day from royal fans and Heads of State, according to The Telegraph.

I have often wondered how many letters Her Majesty received a day.

I am very grateful the royal thread is back open it has been greatly missed.

"In a sentimental nod to Prince William's mother Princess Diana, she finished her outfit with the Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara - a piece given to the late royal on her wedding day and much beloved by Kate."

But it is KNOT ;) The Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara it IS the Queen Mary's Lover's Knot Tiara

Made in 1818 for Princess Augusta of Hesse-Kassel, the wife of Prince Adolphus, Duke of Cambridge (a son of King George III of the United Kingdom).
In 1858, Augusta gave the tiara to her daughter, Grand Duchess Augusta of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Her niece, the future Queen Mary of the United Kingdom, often admired her aunt's lover's knot tiara. But Mary didn't inherit the Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara; that went to Augusta's granddaughter, and it was eventually sold.

So Queen Mary did the next best thing, commissioning a replica version of the tiara. :p

Queen Mary's Lover's Knot Tiara, has since been worn by Queen Elizabeth II, Diana, Princess of Wales, and now the current Duchess of Cambridge.

Initially, Queen Mary's Lover's Knot Tiara was also topped by a series of upright pearls. She later had those removed, so that's the easiest way now to tell the difference between the tiaras: the Cambridge Lover's Knot has upright pearls, while the Queen Mary's Lover's Knot does (K)not.

Queen Mary's Lover's Knot Tiara - It was NEVER Diana's!
Mary bequeathed her own Lover's Knot to her granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth II, in 1953. *In 1981, Elizabeth gave the tiara as a long-term loan to her new daughter-in-law, Diana.*

:D
* The actual Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara is an entirely different tiara, owned by a German noble family, Georg and Marie Gabrielle von Waldburg und Zeil. Today, the tiara is worn by their daughter-in-law, Mathilde.

I don’t know if it is true that the Duchess of Sussex wanted to wear the Vladimir tiara at her wedding and her Majesty declined. But I’m glad it wasn’t as the headband tiara worn by the Duchess on her wedding day was much more suitable.

THE Queen wants a £1,000-a-week Twitter King to boost her profile on social media and bag her more likes and followers.

Her Majesty, 93, wants a Head of Digital Engagement with a salary of £45,000 to £50,000 to oversee her Instagram and Twitter accounts and also her website.

I don’t think this would be a bad job it could open up huge career opportunities for the person after a few years.

Me please! If I can work part time and from home...

Seriously though, must be a bit of a kick in the teeth to those loyal palace staff who work hard for significantly less!

“The Monarch reportedly has to buy 620 gifts for family and staff, and she hands many of them out personally throughout December.

She also writes and sends 750 Christmas cards to people around the world.

Unsurprisingly, all this doesn't come cheap and a former aide has told the Sun that the Queen spends a staggering £30,000 on presents and cards every single year.”

Ouch.

If Christmas shopping and card writing is driving you crazy this year think yourself lucky you don’t have to buy as many as Her Majesty.
