TX TX - Johnson Co, Matlock Ranch, 'Mr. X', WhtMale 16-24(25-35), UP11445, curly brown hair, Dec'72

A new article on this case. A group of retired officers are volunteering time to try and solve this. Amazing to read in the article that the depression in the ground where Mr X was buried was still clearly visible 40 years on...

CLEBURNE — The remains of a man found slain more than 40 years ago were exhumed Thursday morning in hopes that investigators can finally learn his name and the identity of his killer.

Referred to by Johnson County Cold Case Squad members as simply “Mr. X,” the victim had been found by a rancher on Dec. 11, 1972, dumped in a field off Road 1131A, about 14 miles northwest of Cleburne.

The body was nude and decomposing near a cedar thicket. An autopsy later determined he’d been shot three times with a .25 caliber handgun in the chest and right arm.

The case was reopened by Johnson County’s Cold Case Squad this spring, a group of retired law enforcement officers who volunteer their time investigating the unsolved slayings

Yeah, the current reconstruction could definitely be better. I can handle reconstructions that are derived from postmortem photos (they are probably some of the best and most accurate), but not when the decedent was unrecognizable upon discovery.

I am very appreciative, though, that someone took the time to give him a reconstruction because lots of UIDs, unfortunately, don't have reconstructions at all.
