Omg. I feel so bad for the kids. Even though he killed their mother it will still be hard on them.

If Fd ended his life it was the final revenge against GF and his children. His last poor me act will fill them with a lifetime of accusing GF of not letting them see their father one last time....and, she made him take his life. It would be his last slap in the face of the Farbers and the law.
