GUILTY CO - Paige Birgfeld, 34, Grand Junction, 28 June 2007

Well, I'd like to repeat the question I posted earlier. I have not seen or heard why the search was started on Hwy 50, has anyone else? This is nowhere near where she lives. It is a bit closer to this Lester's house but his search came days after the foot search along the Highway.
Also, I read that she was visiting her first ex husband in Eagle which is a two hour drive and again, no where near Highway 50.

Ah OK...I found this article. It was something they found early on:
The initial search for Birgfeld focused on a five mile radius surrounding her home in Grand Junction but authorities say there was evidence found at the onset of the investigation, which has led searchers to Whitewater and Highway 50 and to results as well.
During the two-week investigation and especially this past weekend, several items of interest were found including a shoe, a checkbook, a Blockbuster Video and insurance cards have all been found along both sides of Highway 50.

Here ya go, Taximom!:

Birgfeld told friends she had worked as an exotic dancer before she married Dixon in 1998 in Las Vegas, according to published reports. The couple had three children, ages 3 to 8.
Birgfeld reportedly returned to exotic dancing in 2004 when the couple's finances took a downturn.
Courts records show Dixon was arrested on domestic-violence charges in 2005 for allegedly slapping and shoving Birgfeld after finding underwear in her car that led him to believe she was engaging in sex acts.
Since her divorce in 2006, Birgfeld made and sold baby slings, sold kitchenware, worked as a mystery shopper, gave dance lessons to children and speculated in local real estate.

This would make it her second husband, Dixon, who divorced her possibly over the stripping. I haven't seen anywhere they have mixed it up myself.

A reporter on Greta's show said the 1st ex said her stripping was the issue behind their divorce.

That is where I heard it too I believe. Maybe it was an issue with both husbands :p

Is where the car was dumped and burned anywhere near to where her belongings were found...I mean would it have been anywhere near that client's home and the place where he worked? I guess he could have thrown them out of the window anywhere to throw LE off.

So Beigler is the 1st husband whom she was sort of getting back together with and Dixon is the 2nd who divorced her for the stripping?

Hmmm...well...now I don't know about that whole stripping and husband thing. I can't imagine EITHER husband really liking the idea particularly tho. I guess it doesn't bother the first exhubby as much since he was willing to go back to her. He claims they were already back together this time knowing full well about her escort service. Strange. Most men would run the other way...and fast!

Her car was found near her home and apparently close to where Lester works. Her belongings were found several miles away in a completely different part of town.

They finally explained on the news (not sure which station) that where they found her checks etc. was on the route to Jones' "favorite haunts" where there is quite rough terrain..gullies, underbrush, but they are searching there as well. They said it would be difficult to search and a slow process. They didn't mention why Jones liked that area tho or spent time in such a place.

Well that's very interesting. I haven't watched any news for a few days. So they had Lester in their sights form the start apparently; since the highway search took place before the search of his house. I wonder what info they have that pointed in his direction. I'm having coffee tomorrow with a friend who lives near Birgfelds neighborhood. Maybe she will have some info.

I would guess they checked out all the people who worked in the RV place where the car was found. Then his name must have popped up on her phone records or visa versa.

Would she have had the 2 clients names written down somewhere that she planned to meet with that night? There must be somewhere in her office where she keeps track of what clients have arranged dates with which girls including her and what day..time..and month. Maybe the found Lester's name as her first appointment/date that night.

Of course, that is possible. Either way...they came up with his name rather soon into the investigation.

Ralph Jones, the POI, was raised in the Delta, Colorado area and has lived in the vicinity most of his life. There is a lot of amazing backcountry in the Grand Mesa area. In fact, Grand Junction is surrounded by a lot of amazing backcountry where anyone with interest in hiking, mountain biking, rock collecting, or just camping and fishing, can go to escape the city life. Grand Mesa, where the search has now gone, is an beautiful National Forest with hundreds of lakes, great camping, and lots of backcountry. It isn't unusual for anyone who has lived in the part of Western Colorado to have spent time in the mountains around that area. South West of Grand Mesa are the canyons of the Uncompahgre and Gunnison Rivers, also quite remote and rough.

There are many stories from Western Colorado about people hiking and disappearing in the mountains never to be seen again, planes disappearing and their wrecks found decades later in the deep forests of the Grand Mesa, and many other unsolved disappearences.

My guess is that everyone on the POI list has spent time away from the city and knows about lots of remote places around Grand Junction. It's just the nature of the place (to go explore).

Thanks, AMF, for explaining to those of us unfamiliar with the area. That does give a different perspective to why he would be there so often. Sadly, it does sound like a logical place to find Paige. <sigh>

More information about Lester Jones, but I'm not sure if this is old news or not. Birgfield's burning car was found in the parking lot of an RV repair shop where he is employed.

Paige's car was found about a block from the RV Dealership where Ralph Jones, the POI, worked. My guess is they checked employees in the vicinity and found his rap sheet and past convictions, may have made some connection with her escort business, and that's what led to the searches.

MORE IMPORTANTLY - The car was also found a few blocks from a well known truck stop off I-70. Although I haven't seen any details on this truck stop, I know from other reliable sources, that it isn't unusual for "Ladies" to ply their trade with truckers at truck stops, especially ones with a motel attached. There's plenty of stories about serial killers amongst the trucking industry, and they get away with it for the most part, because they are always on the move. And there's plenty of remote places along our Interstate system to toss a body! She could also just be on the run with some trucker.

Yes, there seems to be some who feel that she may have skipped town on her own, and with 2 ex-husbands, numerous "johns", a business where she was a high priced "escort", and the potential for her "life" to come crashing down on her, it is possible to believe that scenerio (skipping town). Tossing the remains of her life out the truck window as she left could account for the stuff found along a major highway used by truckers heading south out of Grand Junction.

She apparently left plenty of emails indicating fear of one of her ex-husbands if not both. I personally find it hard to believe that the ex-husband that she was seeing, who indicated that they were talking about getting back together, would take it calmly that she had two "clients" to see right after she saw him the night she disappeared. That just seems wrong. She could be "running" from him for all we know. And what a way to punish her family, disappear and not tell anyone. The whole family suffers. As for her kids, we've all seen plenty of stories about mothers leaving kids behind when they run away. It's sad, but true.

There is just too many loose threads in this case to jump on any one theory.

There are many loose threads, but it seems that LE has a definite direction where they are going and it appears Lester Jones is their number one target at the moment...even if they are not admitting it. Hubby #2 has an alibi. Hubby #1 claims he has an alibi in interviews, but he was home alone (I think I recall he said they can check his phone records and something about an early meeting?).
