COVID-19 Outbreak | Health & Senior Services

When will COVID-19 peak in Kansas and Missouri? How bad will it be? Models show trend

The new coronavirus is projected to reach its peak in Kansas and Missouri in April and May according to research from the University of Washington.

As the number of people in the U.S. infected by the virus rises exponentially, the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington released a database last week explaining projections for when the disease would peak, how much strain would be placed on medical resources in that time, and how many would die.

As a nurse, I was hopeful that more would be done to help us flatten the curve in Missouri. Unfortunately, being in the midwest is giving some people the false notion that it won't be bad here. Governor Parsons needs to put orders in place to control this now.

Mike Parson doesn’t plan to issue stay-at-home order for Missouri, calls it 'individual responsibilities'

That's true. Just yesterday I was talking with a friend that lives in a small town in the boot heel. He does not believe there will be an outbreak where he lives. I hope he's right, but fear he is wrong.

I eliminated some of the information from the county list such as which type lab they were tested. It crowds together when copy and pasted. It is in the link though if you want to see it. imo

COVID-19 Outbreak | Health & Senior Services
Is Missouri's testing showing a lower percentage of confirmed positive tests than the national average?
In Missouri, about 8.4% of tests are positive?

Nationally, the percentages are 14.5 % for the week ending March 28th, and 11.7% since March 1st.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

"US Virologic Surveillance:

Week 13
No. of specimens tested: 75,852
No. of positive specimens 10,982 (14.5%)

Cumulative for US
Cumulative since March 1, 2020
No. of specimens tested: 193,431
No. of positive specimens 22,601 (11.7%)
"

Certainly, there needs to be more testing for Missouri. But, it's good news that the infection rate is lower--so far.

I think you are correct about the percentage being lower. I think they are getting more testing done now than before, probably because of the larger communities. Like St Louis and Kansas City, then you have Columbia and Springfield. It seems like for the # of positive cases the death rate is low which right now is a good thing. St Louis and Kansas City both have good medical services. imo
