Nevada - Coronavirus COVID-19

Some Las Vegas ATMs empty because of unemployment pay withdraws

As a record number of Nevadans seek and receive unemployment insurance debit cards, some Bank of America ATMs around the Las Vegas Valley are running low on cash.

Yes, some people have to get $5000 off of their cards, or more now that some of the back claims from March are getting settled. Apparently, claimants are only supposed to have $1000 or less on the cards.

The highest amount a person can get off of the card is $2000 (?), at a time. Not really sure. But people get the cash, then take it to their bank. This extra $600 a week is an amazing windfall for a lot of people.

But, the flip side, is that their job may not be hiring them back...especially folks who work on the strip. So many people work at the shows, which may not be back for awhile.

Treasure Island releases updated health, safety policies

Treasure Island announced new health and safety policies Tuesday afternoon as it gears up to reopen to the public.

The new guidelines include the use of plexiglass shields, security temperature screenings and personal protective equipment for all staff members.

The Phil Ruffin-owned Strip property is accepting reservations for arrivals beginning May 22, but its website says the date is subject to change. Gov. Steve Sisolak has not yet given a firm date in which casinos would be allowed to reopen.

Culinary union caravan on Las Vegas Strip shines light on reopening

Hundreds of cars drove the Strip on Tuesday evening as part of caravan organized by Culinary Local 226 to demand transparency from casinos regarding their reopening plans and protections for workers and visitors.

“Nevada has a chance to be a leader in the hospitality industry,” Geoconda Arguello-Kline, secretary-treasurer for the union, said in a statement. “If casino companies will not release their plans and be transparent before reopening how can customers and workers know they will be safe?”

The group is asking casinos to put their full reopening plans on their websites. The union is also calling on the Nevada Gaming Commission to implement new safety guidelines and release its own reopening plans.

Some Nevada jobless now eligible for 13 additional weeks of pay

Nevadans reaching the end of their unemployment insurance benefits can expect to receive an additional 13 weeks of benefits from the state’s unemployment office.
......
Newly minted DETR Interim Director Heather Korbulic told the Review-Journal eligible filers should be able to receive those benefits now but declined to offer additional details on what would make someone eligible for the 13 weeks of additional pay.

“That’s a question I don’t feel like I have an accurate answer to,” Korbulic said. “They’d (claimants) have to refer to the updated information on our COVID-19 page regarding the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation. There’s a fact sheet on the COVID-19 page … not everybody will be eligible so it’s best to refer to that fact sheet.”

No. A date for reopening hasn’t even been given yet. Testing now will only have to be repeated then if that is their plan. Is this just a pr move...false sense of security?

Maybe they want to know what percentage of their staff has already had the virus. My Mom lives in Vegas, and she seriously believes that she may have already had COVID19, in February. A lot of people were sick in January, February, before anyone really knew much.

Maybe. Was your mother tested?

State to begin COVID-19 antibody testing in Nevada this month

ETA: I think it also may be possible (another reason) that all these places are now releasing safety information due to the culinary union...they need these employees that many have been infected and died.
