I am surprised the Fire Chief has the discretion of a Facebook commentator. You'd think LE would have asked him not to comment on open investigations.

LE asked the Fire Department not to engage in the search, which to me automatically extends to shutting up.

Makes me ponder exactly why LE has been so quiet. They obviously don't want anyone to know anything, which speaks to me that they suspect someone local, someone who might have word-of-mouth contacts (which is probably nearly every person living in or near Mayville or Salida).

She's a reporter from Crimeonline, sorry thought she was allowed :(
Kyle Crimeonline is absolutely allowed. If she does not have a check by her name but is from crimeonline we will allow. If it is a media source but has no check please just ask on the thread and we can tell you but yes Crimeonline is allowed.

I’m still amazed after all this time that a spouse who kills never stops to think of their children. This makes the person also a horrible parent, someone who likely never put the children first. I guess divorce is old hat now. Just get rid of your spouse? These people are the worst.

Could easily be done without an accomplice, depending on what kind of job it was there is usually different kinds of damp proof, weather proofing layers that go down first, thick plastic sheeting etc before the concrete is poured on top, he could have easily hid the body underneath this before calling in a concrete truck to come and pump concrete and they would never know.

Law enforcement searching near Salida for missing Chaffee County woman
Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office
Suzanne Morphew
Authorities are searching a residential property on the east side of Salida for missing Chaffee County woman Suzanne Morphew.

Information developed during the investigation into Morphew’s whereabouts led police to the property, according to a Friday news release from the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office. The FBI and Colorado Bureau of Investigation are part of the search, the news release said.

The property owner is not connected to Morphew’s disappearance and is cooperating with law enforcement, the news release said. Authorities do not know how long the search will take and said no updates will be provided while it is happening. They plan an update once the search is concluded.

So, maybe a presser still happening today ?

When will we know something?

Sounds like a potentially complex recovery scene. They may put up lights and go through the night, or maybe even resume tomorrow, we will see. Jmo.

Imagine an archeological excavation, carefully and meticulously collecting every single...

If there is a whole piece of concrete, maybe they will take the whole section to the lab if they get a hit, which it sounds like they have... Or will they instead fully excavate on site?

:(

Those poor girls. :(

ETA: my point, it could be a long time at the site. We don’t even know if the body is intact at this point, IF there is a body, which it sounds like there may be, imo Jmo.

That dust that was seen in one of the photos from earlier makes a little more sense now to me.

I have been around workers using a concrete saw and that dust would match dust from a concrete cutter.

A concrete cutter saw machine is a machine that looks like a Roto Tiller but it has a huge thin round blade that is made of special material and a water hose is usually hooked up to it to cool down the cutting and give the blade more shelf life.

Anyway, that dust could have been from a concrete cutter saw.

If I had to take something out of hardened concrete, I would first cut out a big square of the concrete that surrounds the item. Then once the block is out, I would probably have to use sledge hammer or jack hammer to slowly break away the concrete from the object.

Its very doable but hard work and of course would take great care in this situation.

I'd lean towards the use of more delicate tools and specialist teams and observers in a suspected recovery case -- really closer to an archaeological dig, and sometimes using expertise and personnel from that field (forensic strand).

I speak from unfortunate personal experience, though this was in Canada, and some years ago.

IMO - they planned to keep this quiet until they couldn't and now everyone is swarming to that location and they really will have to consider doing a presser. I can't see how they will let all this speculation take place for the family's sake. It seems to me they have not found the entire remains yet. I'm sorry to have to type that but if they have been digging for sometime - and have used some equipment to see what's behind the cement... well.. it's not going to be good.

Maybe they wanted the fire department to stay out of it because they knew the fire chief couldn't keep his mouth shut :p

Not to mention the media coverage this case got. This will follow those poor girls forever.

I'm on the road and limited cell service. These new developments are like a punch in the gut. What we think to be true might be reality. My heart hurts for her family, especially her beloved daughters. I know I can rely on WS to have the latest verified info. Anxiously awaiting updates.
