Occasionally I forget that it’s only in NYC that I’ve seen banks with huge walls of Plexiglas for each teller. Then I go upstate to my folks’ and there are zero barriers.

similarly, one has to practically go south of 96th Street in Manhattan to visit a liquor store where you can actually hear what a clerk is saying to you because ditto.

Indiana. Plexiglass everywhere.

People across England are beginning their first night out in three months, after coronavirus restrictions eased.

Hospitality venues such as pubs and restaurants as well as hairdressers, cinemas and theme parks have reopened with strict social distancing rules.

But ministers have urged caution and England's chief medical officer said the latest step was not "risk-free".

It comes as buildings and landmarks across the country get set to light up to celebrate the NHS.

People are also being encouraged to place lights in their window at 21:00 BST to remember those who have died from the virus.

Downing Street is to be lit up blue while other public buildings including Royal Albert Hall, Blackpool Tower, the Shard and the Wembley Arch will also be illuminated.

Restrictions on the hospitality sector remain in place in Scotland and Wales, while pubs have been able to open in Northern Ireland since Friday.

In England, people are being allowed to stay the night away from home for the first time since lockdown started, with campsites and holiday accommodation also reopening.

Police in Dorset, Devon and Cornwall reported gridlock on the roads earlier - including a high volume of caravan owners heading to the coast.

Despite the relaxation of restrictions, some 30% of bars, pubs and restaurants have stayed shut, according to the Night-Time Industries Association, amid fears for safety and concerns over how to implement social distancing guidance.

We have barriers in all the stores I've been to in my upstate town.

I'm dreading tonight. One of my greyhounds is terrified of fireworks. She curls up in a ball in the corner and just pants and shakes until it's over. I feel so bad for her on New Years and July 4th.

I couldn't go out to celebrate/see fireworks even if I wanted to.

DH and I no longer have a dog but found Bach's Rescue Remedy quite helpful when our pets were stressed.

How are you feeling lately?
Had a couple of bad days this week. V tired and achy, BP and temp all ok (home tests I can do!). It may just be lockdown fever tho, but I just dont feel I'm right tbh. I sent Mr HKP a selfie today of me and the dog andI thought who's that tired old lady??

I dunno. Maybe these symptoms are generalised for a lot of people due to what's going on. As soon as our local GP (doc) have some capacity, I'll make an appointment.

Thanks for asking. Your posts really cheer me up. I need to Margarita myself up! Xx

I think the first photo is a stock one (hope) but not sure about the others

@tresir2012 sorry I missed your post earlier asking if it will feel weird to come out of lockdown.

Honestly, not a lot will change for me. I've been working from home since March and that will continue longer term. Mr HKP is a key worker and has worked throughout. I cut and coloured my own hair and like the £150 saving! There is a local pub in the village opening today but with Mr HKP's shifts we rarely go out in the evenings anyway. I shop online for clothes etc.

I suppose I'm quite the home bird! Happy here with my little dog and no long commute but do miss the office socialising and nice coffees.

Work wise, lots to do. Bringing catering staff off furlough part time. Not easy, stressful actually.

V selfishly, I hope the supermarket delivery slots are more available again. I went out for my once a week outing today, Waitrose woo hoo. I hate it! I'm one of the only mask wearers. Today a man in his 70s was walking around, coughing, not even trying to cover his mouth.

Sorry this all sounds a bit miserable. I'm not feeling miserable! I'm just trying to get my head round the fact that this is my new normal. I need to make a plan, so that I can I can get healthier and also somehow not feel isolated.

Generally tho, I'm glad things are starting to loosen up a bit just hopefully people can be trusted. My parents need to emerge soon and I want it to be as safe as poss for them.

No I understand it is daunting. Hope you are feeling better. We still have no shops or anything open yet. I think the shops will be open Monday and the pubs and holiday and caravan parks will open the week after. Main beach car park, toilets and fish and chip kiosk are already open again. Loads of walkers and more cars about last week. Are you planning a holiday at all this year? It even seems strange to think about a holiday trip TBH. Drunks on the train- I guess that is getting back to normal :-(

'We need to live with it': White House readies new message for the nation on coronavirus

We just need to learn how to "live with it". Unless you die. Great message.
I think this is the most interesting bit. There is going to be a therapeutic announcement next week and we are going to hear from Dr Birx after her trip to hot spots. Also we are going to hear some data on risk.
From the link -
"Next week administration officials plan to promote a new study they say shows promising results on therapeutics, the officials said. They wouldn't describe the study in any further detail because, they said, its disclosure would be "market-moving."

Officials also plan to emphasize high survival rates, particularly for Americans who are within certain age groups and don't have underlying conditions. The overall death rate from COVID-19 in the U.S. has been on the decline. More than 130,000 Americans have died of the virus.

Trump is expected to be briefed by Dr. Deborah Birx, one of the most visible members of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, before Monday on her assessment of new hot spots that she's visited this week, including what governors have said they need and how the new surge is affecting minority communities, officials said. Birx was in Florida, Texas and Arizona this week.

One of the officials indicated that coronavirus task force meetings and public briefings will be more frequent — a shift already underway this week. Those meetings and briefings were daily for much of March and April, but they tapered off when Trump pivoted to focusing on the need to reopen the economy. Nearly 20 million Americans are now jobless and the unemployment rate remains in the double digits, despite a record drop in the past month."

Re hols, I dont think so. We usually "staycation" because the dog comes with us (sometimes we have a long weekend somewhere in Europe just us tho). I am so glad I couldnt find anywhere I liked enough to book earlier in the year! A lot of people still waiting on refunds. We're working on getting the house in order, just in case we decide to sell and "downsize". Been thinking about that a lot since this all happened.

What are you thinking? It's risky booking somewhere abroad still, looking at Catalonia locking down again today.

No I am thinking of renting out a place we have but am nervous and don't really want to do it. Maybe leave it till next year. We probably won't be going anywhere as we have animals too. Everything is risky, that's the big problem. Even going to the pub and shops. I think we will just be observing for much of July.

The faces of some of the American healthcare workers who have died from SARS-CoV2.:(

I’d like to hear more talk about this from our leaders. Even an acknowledgement would be “monumental“ at this point addressing this COVID situation. Can we talk about our healthcare workers and emergency responders who are losing their lives everyday?
Let’s see how many Doctors and Nurses died today. Brb.

Coronavirus live updates: Florida, Texas COVID cases continue to jump

Texas reported 8,238 cases in the last day, another new daily record for the state. Since June 23, when cases crossed 5,000 for the first time, the state has set a new daily case record six times. Total tests have climbed over that period, but positivity rates have as well.

The state has had 191,790 cases to date with 91,752 considered active. There have been 2,608 fatalities since the start of the pandemic.

There are now 7,890 patients hospitalized statewide.

I'd like to hear from them too, but they are campaigning right now. Maybe in Dec/Jan sometime?
