Madeleine McCann: German prisoner identified as suspect - #14

When LE identify a potential burial site, the work is painstakingly slow and an excavator would never be used in fear of destroying the evidence.. unless of course they are acting on information they feel is 1st hand reliable and so they have an indication as to how deep the objects/evidence is buried at. I would be surprised if it were a body, since the Earth around it would normally be treated more respectfully, so as to find the body/bones together for forensic photographs of the grave site.
With regards to the UK and the use of white forensic tents.. these are only put up when a murder occurs outdoors and there is a body on scene. Be it on the day of the crime or at the recovery of a decades old body. X

Thanks for the clarification, Victoria!
Not as much activity and the ground seems to be getting treated much more respectfully in that field with the tents...?

Any chance you could confirm it was a VW camper in the article? CB was said to be living in a caravan/motorhome in Hanover depending on news source. It would be the first sighting of the VW in Germany if it was. And quite important.

Would bet, that the pic of the campervan that has not been taken at Praia do Barranco, had been made near a beach in the area of Hannover. Maybe "Steinhuder Meer". I'm still checking pics of the many lakes.

Would also bet, these pics were cut on some edges. There could be more to see in the original. Both pics with open doors, quite romantic moods....

Small swimsuits kept in Campervans....

There should be evidence, maybe of abductions. But L.E. aims to charge for murder, due to missing persons?!

This might be a completely wrong and ridiculous suggestion, but could the two tents just be pop up toilet tents? Like if they are expected to be out in a field for a full day, they need a bathroom right? If the picture I saw is the tent everyone’s referring to, it looked much more like a pop up privacy tent than a forensic digging tent.

According to the paper he was living in Hannover-Linden in a VW LT camper van in 2010. Nothing interesting in tomorrow's paper, apparently police are not talking to the press at all. The tents on the nearby fields are for police who observe the property at night to make sure nobody is entering, not forensic tents.

I mentioned that as a possibility on an earlier thread. But he would have had to set off as early as possible, so if he really did travel to Germany, was the time of the abduction earlier than everyone originally thought?
It was discussed long time ago around thread 2 or3 that Germany allows registration of cars remotely from a foreign country. Its done online. He does not have to be in Germany to register his car in another person's name.

Is that info accurate for 2007?

Well IMO we do have a habit of seeing things not there, usually the most obvious answer is the right one

Well, Bociagalupo, our insider from Hannover already clarified those tent's purpose.

Looks a long way to toddle for a tiddle :D

Has a road/path actually been cut in the corn/wheat field for the vehicles to drive along? If so this seems like a well planned operation and the LE haven't just acted on a recent tip off and swarmed the site imo

IMO a little bit too early for online registrations. But you could always give a third party a permission to register a car on your name at the time. No need for you to go to the office in persona.

Everything has been scanned and digitalized. So you can see, if someone came himself for the registration or someone with his permission.

L.E must have checked this! IMO impossible to be in PDL in the evening and the next day in Germany to register a car. They have pretty unflexible opening hours at these offices. And i drove to middle of spain from germany many times in the past non stop. No way!!!

L.E. knows, he wasn't in germany the day after!

Online registration in germany not before october 2019!

That is correct, but a body would be much safer to dig locally than traveling thousands of miles to Germany.
The rationale is difficult to understand, but it does happen, for example there was a case in the UK where a murderer moving home transported also a body and buried it in the garden of his new home, it was a 790km drive in his van.

That's really odd. But it seems even odder traveling from Algarve to Germany with a body. Not impossible, but too odd.

Even if that person, who wants to keep them for a while, is not looking for small dead ones....

If she was stolen to order then it’s very feasible that he had to take her to Germany to be handed over, or used by a group. He then might have also been the clean up guy tasked with disposing of the body. She might have been taken, abused and disposed of within a day or two, weeks or even months.

Does anyone know about the use of CCTV cameras in Germany. Is it overused like in the UK? In Portugal the problem was that CCTV cameras were not allowed by law. How is the situation in Germany?

Barely used at all, AFAIK.
Our @Dlk79 has looked into it, strict privacy laws in Germany post-Nazism.

ETA - which is completely fair enough, really.

Edited further because people are so very precious these day  gonna end up voluntarily walking back into confinement myself at this rate. And swallowing the keys.

Germans are very into privacy so cctv is only really allowed in stadiums, public transport and trains stations.
You can have a camera on your property as long as you don't capture your neighbour's property. You are not allowed to publish street-photography (if one can identify people) or dash cams either.
It's mostly because of our past in regards to the Gestapo and Stasi.

I posted this earlier:
CB was questioned by German LE back in 2013. They asked him about his involvement in MM case. We don't know what he answered but we know that he joked with his friends about this questioning. It was then suggested in the media that this was a big mistake by LE to inform him he was under a radar re MM and that this would allow him to destroy any evidence he possibly had.
In 2013 he lived in the area they are searching today. Maybe they are searching for this evidence he possibly hid in 2013.
