Right and he had about 5 hours before she was reported missing. She was last seen around 3:00 by the ups driver and I think it was around 7:30-8:00 when I got the first alert from the local news station that she was missing.

The reaction in the community, local LE and UPS Driver lead to finding her quickly not a doubt in my mind, with the UPS driver being a real hero to me! Had her boyfriend not immediately reported her missing I fear QL would have taken her out of the community and she may have not been found. He may have never been a suspect if he had the time. This to me is a lesson for LE, the report of someone missing needs to be acted on quickly! Even if they are adults and just want a "time out" from life they'll get over it. If LE had waited 24 hours before alerting the community about this there's no telling what QL would have done with her body.

ASP: Suspect admitted abducting, sexually assaulting Sydney Sutherland before killing her

Aug 25, 2020

JACKSON COUNTY, Ark. (KAIT) - An Arkansas State Police investigator said in court Monday a man accused of killing a 25-year-old Newport woman admitted to abducting and sexually assaulting her before killing her.

At 2 p.m. Monday, Quake Lewellyn arrived at the Jackson County Circuit Court for his first appearance before Judge Harold Erwin.

An ASP agent said on the stand that Lewellyn “admitted to seeing Sutherland walking on CR 41.”

Lewellyn reportedly then abducted her, took her to farmland and sexually assaulted her, then buried her body.

After reviewing the affidavit, Erwin found probable cause to charge Lewellyn with capital murder, kidnapping, and rape. He ordered Lewellyn be held without bond. His next court appearance is set for Oct. 1.

Lewellyn has been sent to stay in the Randolph County jail, as the case proceeds.

[..]

Prosecuting Attorney Henry Boyce spoke to Region 8 News Monday and said there are lots of unanswered questions that must be confirmed before charges are formally filed.

“A lot of people do not understand that an arrest can be made, and a person can be put in jail without actually being formally charged,” Boyce said. “Charges are based upon the discretion and the decision of the prosecuting attorney office. It’s solely within my discretion frankly to decide what charges are born forth by the proof that the police and the sheriff’s office has gathered in support of our case.”

Boyce also said he knew both families and that while he may hold sympathy for the victims, he knows he must remain objective in his line of work.

[..]

Jackson County sheriff’s deputies arrested Lewellyn, 28, of Jonesboro on suspicion of murder in the death of Sydney Sutherland.

His arrest came Friday after searchers found Sutherland’s body.

According to friends and family, Sutherland went on a jog near her home on Highway 18 on Wednesday and never returned.

The Arkansas State Medical Examiner in Little Rock, using DNA collected, confirmed the body was Sutherland’s, according to Jackson County Sheriff David Lucas.

I think the community was very lucky to have a seasoned leader in Sheriff Lucas that fought every day to keep the focus only on SS after social media nearly railroaded this investigation in the first day with false sightings of a Texas vehicle and other potential rabbit holes.

Also, finding SS's cell phone early was also critical because they immediately knew it was unlikely SS was hit by a car when SS's phone was not damaged when found. There was no evidence of a vehicle-pedestrian accident and authorities could place 100% of their efforts on the theory SS was abducted soon after last seen by UPS driver.

Fortunately, the search parameter was such a small area. Referencing the registered sex offenders just in the Newport area of Jackson County totals 19 -- mostly Level 2 offenders.

What an absolutely horrific 6 days for her family and friends. Peace, comfort, and healing to the entire community.

I had already seen the rumors when the sheriff made the press conference. QL was already in custody.
I believe they had started to search his property. I believe they had found the backhoe and dirt disturbance nearby. I think he knew he was cornered and the story of the hit and panic was just the first thing he could think to say. I think with more prying in the safety of the police headquarters he confessed to more.
His booking photo his expression looks like a man that just realized the severity and repercussions of his actions. He actually looks like deer in the headlights to me.
I’m still on the fence on whether this is his first crime of this nature to this severity. I imagine with his mom marrying into a family with a good reputation and money has helped hide some of his previous crimes. This does seem like an impulsive crime and Unorganized which makes me think it’s his first. His quick confession also supports this. But he could have done it before and pure dumb luck allowed him to get away with it.

I don't believe there's any evidence that QL alleged he hit SS with his vehicle and panicked. I think the idea of a possible pedestrian-vehicle accident was conflated with the suspect during the time authorities were working to rule out any evidence of a pedestrian-vehicle accident (days before QL came into the picture).

Fortunately, authorities were able to shift their focus 100% to abduction theory when they located SS's undamaged cell phone. The phone together with no physical evidence of an accident put all hands on deck in the right direction.

I've only located one short clip of the volunteer searchers on Aug 20 and it appears the search area was acres of tall grass surrounded by treed areas where SS's body could have easily been hidden in the brush.

I'll be very curious to learn how QL was really apprehended. He very well could have been exhibiting strange behavior during the couple days volunteers and authorities were searching and confronted by family about his whereabouts on Aug 19.

Forgive me if this as already been posted.

Meanwhile, an investigative reporter for Today in Fort Smith has made contact with a source who has this to say about Quake Lewelyn:

“He (Quake) used to follow my friend -- stalk her – and try to get her to acknowledge him. She was very uncomfortable around him.”

To protect the woman who claims to have been stalked by Lewellyn, her name and location will not be

disclosed at this time.

Our staff has been in touch with a friend of the woman making those claims.

I read in another group a post was made that stated LE knew QL saw SS while walking and turned around to abduct her from reviewing local surveillance and that they had read it in the arrest affidavit. This sounds bogus to me unless QL had a dash cam of some sort, I would think any other surveillance would have been checked immediately upon her disappearance. Is the affidavit online somewhere or been released?

I don't believe you will find the arrest affidavit because QL not been formally charged. I think the docs are preliminary since the ME hasn't even announced SS cause of death. Monday was the probable cause hearing that served to hold him over in jail. Probably have to wait on the affidavit until the arraignment, scheduled for Oct 1. If you find the AA, please post it! Arkansas farmer admits raping, killing jogger who vanished as she ran near her home

Aug 25, 2020

NEWPORT, Ark. —
An Arkansas farmer who last week joined a Facebook group dedicated to finding a nurse who vanished while jogging has been charged with her rape and murder, authorities said.

Quake Lewellyn, 28, of Jonesboro, faces charges of capital murder, rape and kidnapping in the death of Sydney Claire Sutherland, 25, of Newport. Lewellyn, who was arrested hours after Sutherland’s body was found Friday, is being held without bond in the Randolph County Jail.

Sutherland was last spotted alive Wednesday afternoon as she ran along Jackson County Road 41 between the cities of Newport and Grubbs. People magazine reported that Jackson County Sheriff David Lucas said last week that authorities had a confirmed sighting of the missing woman by a UPS driver.

[..]

A post on a relative’s Facebook page showed Sutherland at the family member’s home around 1 p.m. the day she vanished.

“She went for a walk around 2:30 p.m. by her house on Highway 18,” the post read. “Please help us find our sassy!”

ABC7 in Little Rock reported that Sutherland’s cellphone was found about a quarter-mile from her home. Her vehicle and other personal belongings were found at her home.

[..]

Lucas said Friday during a news conference that Sutherland’s body was discovered around 2 p.m. that afternoon, buried on farmland in rural Jackson County. The sheriff declined to say what led searchers to the spot where Sutherland had been buried.

All of us at Unity Health are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of our precious co-worker Sydney Sutherland. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends. She will be forever missed.

The Arkansas Democrat Gazette reported that the state crime lab used DNA testing to confirm Sutherland’s identity. Her cause of death has not been made public.

Lucas offered few details when speaking with reporters because Lewellyn had not yet been formally charged, but Lucas confirmed at that time that the suspect was a farmer in the area.

Lewellyn knew Sutherland prior to the crime, the sheriff said.

Suspect in Killing of Ark. Jogger Allegedly Saw Her While Driving, Then Doubled Back to Abduct Her
Quake Lewellyn has been charged with capital murder after the death of Sydney Sutherland

By Steve Helling and Steve Helling
August 25, 2020 10:31 AM

Authorities allege the man accused of killing Sydney Sutherland was driving down the street on Aug. 19 when he spotted her jogging and decided to rape and kill her.

A special agent with Arkansas State Police said in a probable cause hearing on Monday that 28-year-old Quake Lewellyn was traveling westbound on a county road when he passed by Sutherland. According to the special agent, Lewellyn allegedly turned around, abducted Sutherland, put her in the back of his pick-up truck, sexually assaulted her and later killed her.
[...]
The connection between Sutherland and Lewellyn remains unclear. Jackson County Sheriff David Lucas told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that the two knew each other, but declined to elaborate on how they met.

Lewellyn, a third-generation farmer, was even listed as a member of a Facebook page created to aid in the search for Sutherland.

Sharing my timeline with only the facts as reported by MSM:

August 19:
SS disappeared on Aug 19 while jogging in the area of State Hwy 18 between Newport and Grubbs which was near her home. She reportedly had her phone with her when she left home. Sheriff Lucas reported a UPS called in that SS was sighted between 2:30 - 3pm on Jackson County Road 41, and this was the last solid lead.

August 20:
SS's phone was found about a quarter-mile from her home and HWY 67. There was no damage to her phone. Speculation that SS was hit by a car was discounted by Sheriff David Lucas because there was no evidence this occurred. The search for SS was suspended for the night for safety reasons.

August 21:
When contacted by a reporter in the early morning, Sheriff Lucas reported no new information developed overnight, and a press conference was scheduled for 1 pm.

A crew was reported seen searching in the general area around County Roads 41, 42, and 43 near Hwy 18.

At midmorning, Sheriff Lucas reported he had a meeting with Arkansas State Police in Newport. They compared case notes, confirming all investigators were on the same page.

The Jackson County Emergency Management asked for volunteers to help search after there were visibly fewer cars at the command center.

Shortly before the press conference, law enforcement agencies reportedly closed down County Roads 41 and 49. There were unconfirmed reports that a bracelet might have been found. During the presser, cars were reported arriving at the command center, and Law enforcement agencies requested Highway 18 to be cleared at this time.

Around 2 pm, Sheriff David Lucas confirmed that a body had been located. He did not confirm that it was SS’s.

A short time later, in a Facebook post, the parents of SS’s boyfriend, Alex, confirmed that the body found Friday was that of SS’s, and that an arrest has been made.

Fueled by the family's announcement, media began announcing the recovery of SS's body causing the Sheriff to contact a local news agency to reiterate that he did not and has not confirmed the body they found is SS's. He said it's too early to be confirmed - doesn't want to make any mistakes in this investigation.

Sheriff Lucas also confirmed that no arrest of the suspect's family made, after rampant social media rumors.

August 22:

Although social media had already named the suspect on August 21, reporters began tweeting that QL had been arrested and charged in the murder of SS, citing a source close to Region 8 News. (QL's age was incorrectly being reported as 25).

Later, Sheriff Lucas formerly announced QL arrested & booked into the Jackson County Jail in connection to the death of SS, and his age correct as 28. Sheriff Lucas also announced QL was also scheduled to have a first appearance in the Jackson County Circuit Court on Monday, Aug. 24, at 2P

Over the weekend, Sheriff David Lucas told reporters that QL and SS knew each other, but did not elaborate further on their alleged link. QL was also reported a member of the Facebook group that was set up to find SS after she went missing. There's no confirmation that QL actually participated in any organized search efforts.

August 23:
The Arkansas State Medical Examiner in Little Rock has confirmed that the body found Friday in Jackson County is that of 25-year-old Sydney Sutherland, according to Jackson County Sheriff David Lucas. Positive identification was obtained by DNA.

August 24:
Quake Lewellyn appeared before Judge Erin for a probable cause hearing at 2pm. An ASP agent has took the stand and testified that Lewellyn admitted to seeing Sutherland walking on CR 41. He then turned around and abducted her. He took her to [3 miles] farmland and sexually assaulted her then buried her body.

Judge Erin ordered no bond for Lewellyn and set his arraignment for October 1 where Lewellyn is expected to be formally charged with capital murder, kidnapping, and rape. He will appear in Jackson County Circuit Court.

After the hearing, Lewellyn was transported to the Randolph County Jail where he will remain held.

After the Monday hearing, Prosecuting Attorney Henry Boyce spoke to the media and said there are lots of unanswered questions that must be confirmed before charges are formally filed.

Prosecutor Boyce also issued the reminder that there is still no cause of death.

ASP: Suspect admitted abducting, sexually assaulting Sydney Sutherland before killing her
Interesting an unconfirmed rumor of a bracelet being found only hours before locating her body. It seem imo the bracelet could have led to LEO questioning him and taking him into police station. They knew where to close off road at that point. Imo they were going off his directives of location he told them. He could have claimed to find the bracelet imo. Maybe he kept as souvenir and tried to plant elsewhere or perhaps his prints were lifted off of phone or bracelet? Imo if he became suspected by a local or family member he was scared (ironically) and ran to confess to save himself.

From the booking photos and the videos there doesn’t appear to to be a mark on him.
So it’s either that or she hoped giving him what he wanted would spare her life. Which doesn’t bear thinking about. MOO[/QUO

From his mug shot it looks like he's about 6'4" and just guessing he looks about 300 lbs. She was only 5'3" and 103 lbs. She just didn't stand a chance against this monstrous killer.

Actually the bracelet report was confirmed. Mitchell McCoy mentioned it in one of his reports I know for sure. Will be interesting if that was indeed a bracelet or her watch.

6'03" and 345 pounds according to one booking photo. I wouldn't want to fight him and I'll usually fight about anybody. I've got a few inches on him but he outweighs me by damn near 100 pounds.
