The tazer was spent before Brooks was shot, so the tazer was not a deadly weapon when police shot him.

Stepmom of ex-cop who shot Rayshard Brooks fired for racist comments

The stepmom of the former Atlanta police officer who fatally shot Rayshard Brooks has been fired from her job for allegedly engaging in sexist and racist behavior. She is also being sued by the company for defamation and false light invasion of privacy.

Melissa Rolfe was told that she was under investigation a day before her stepson, Garrett Rolfe, fatally shot Brooks in June. The company received several complaints that she created an “uncomfortable and hostile working environment,” according to the lawsuit, which was filed on Tuesday (Aug. 11).

She reportedly called Equity Prime Mortgage employees “savages,” “dingbats” and “f*cking b*tches” and said that one woman was only hired because of her “big *advertiser censored*.” Rolfe also allegedly said that another woman who was hired “must suck d*ck really good.”

“Even worse, she engaged in blatantly racist conduct,” says the suit. She reportedly told one Black employee to “upgrade [her] standards” and stop dating Black men. According to the lawsuit, Rolfe called Black men “weak” and said, “Don’t no woman want a weak man.”

She was subsequently fired on June 18, just a few days after the fatal shooting. The lawsuit also says that she started a “smear campaign” against the company — through TV interviews and social media — stating that she was fired because her stepson was charged with murder.

The filing claims that Rolfe, along with QAnon supporter, Marjorie Taylor Greene, “knew that their smear campaign was based on a lie, but they intentionally disregarded the truth to capitalize on national attention related to Rayshard Brooks’ death.”

The company's CEO Eddy Perez says they have been “targeted with death threats, hate mail and a boycott” because of the statements Greene and Rolfe have shared on national platforms. “We are committed to setting the record straight and defending our good name,” he said. The company is seeking damages and attorney’s fees.

In that moment, that split second, can anyone really expect an officer to think of that? When did the officer have time to think well, one shot was fired before, and one shot was fired now. Remember it’s a split second to react. Hindsight is a luxury they did not have.

It all seems mighty conveniently timed. What are the odds she found out there was a problem the day before the shooting? Maybe it’s true, maybe it isn’t.

I don't see any evidence that the police officer who fired even knew that it was his colleagues tazer which had been taken. For all he might have known, it was his colleagues gun that had just been fired.

A taser that shoots is a 'one and done' unless the taser is ATTACHED to a person where they can feel the electricity,. If it hits jeans or lose clothing, it 'fails' and you can't shoot it again. IF its attached to a tshirt or into the skin, then you can keep holding the trigger to keep the electricity going. That is one reason they are not effective. You HAVE to have contact with skin. If it misses or hits thick clothes etc, its worthless. GUN is then next weapon to be used. Also, someone hyped up on drugs may NOT feel the taser. Just as they also don't feel a bullet in an extremity and KEEP FIGHTING. Brooks was a 'good shoot' as he stole a weapon, was combative and not under control.

It is not clear when preliminary hearings will be held for now-ex Atlanta police officer Garrett Rolfe and Officer Devin Brosnan.

Both officers were charged by Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard, who lost his bid for re-election this summer.

Incoming DA-elect Fani Willis has said the case may have to be prosecuted in another county because Howard used the case to boost his re-election campaign, tainting the involvement of the Fulton County District Attorney's Office in the case.

IMO, it’s obvious Howard never should have charged these officers. Now the new DA is stuck with a case that shouldn’t be a case, and a city likely to explode in riots (again) if she drops the charges. I wish her luck.

Fani Willis said the Public Integrity Unit, which handles police shooting cases, will be a top priority once she becomes district attorney in January. She plans to bring in an entirely new team of lawyers and investigators to a re-branded anti-corruption unit. A nationwide search is underway to find a prosecutor to lead the team.

“We want to find someone who does not have a bias for or against the police,” said Willis, who was endorsed by the Atlanta police union. She vowed most charging decisions in use of force investigations will be decided within a year. She’s set a deadline of two years for the more complex cases.

Nothing here indicates to me how she feels about this case.
The article DOES say she wants to find someone who isn’t biased for or against the police. It DOES say she doesn’t want cases dragging on forever.
Based on this article I’d say Howard was anti police, charging cops but never finishing a case.
Sounds like the new DA has a lot of cleaning up to do.
 
GBI completes investigation into Rayshard Brooks shooting

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has completed its investigation into the shooting death of Rayshard Brooks and turned it over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.

The GBI’s thorough investigation looks into all aspects of the incident, from forensic evidence to the autopsy, but does not include a recommendation about what the DA should do.

Results of the investigation will not be made public until the criminal case is over.

GBI completes Rayshard Brooks investigation

Rolfe is currently facing felony murder charges in the case.

Officer Devin Brosnan, who was also at the scene, faces charges of aggravated assault and violations of oath of office.
 
Interim Atlanta Police Chief Rodney Bryant said that the GBI’s recently completed investigation into Rayshard Brooks’ death turned up little that would surprise those who have followed the fatal police shooting.

“We’re still in the process of evaluating and taking a look at it at this point,” Bryant said. “There’s nothing in it that I don’t think the public is already aware of that is deeply concerning at all, but we are continuing to evaluate it and look through their findings.”

Bryant said the Atlanta Police Department would not release the GBI file to the public. The GBI traditionally refuses comment on its findings until after a case is closed.

Atlanta activists push for Rayshard Brooks Peace Center

Community members and activists want to turn the Wendy's on University Avenue into the Rayshard Brooks Peace Center.

They held a rally Saturday afternoon to demand that Atlanta elected officials stop blocking negotiations with the Wendy’s corporation.

More than 1,500 people signed a petition and dozens of people showed up to the rally to show government officials that the community does support the Rayshard Brooks Peace Center.
