...Defense attorney Ellen Michaels said she and her client view their situation as a missing person's case where Galloway has been wrongly accused.

“He and I work together,” Michaels said. “He’s intelligent and articulate and respectful. He’s very engaged in being part of the process of proving that he didn’t do what he’s accused of. He’s passionate and engaged in proving his innocence, honestly.”...

 Yeah, right. More like a con-man. JMO

Still Missing - MI - Danielle Stislicki, 28, Southfield, 2 Dec 2016 #15 *ARREST*

9/23/20 Update: Pretrial hearing on 10/9/20. 10/9/20 Update: Pretrial hearing was held. Trial has been continued with no further date. Circuit Judge Phyllis McMillen told attorneys involved in the high-profile case Friday that she cannot return to managing the case until the Michigan Court of Appeals is through appraising the prosecution & defense of Floyd Galloway. Trial has been continuing with no further date set. Next pretrial status conference hearing on 1/14/21 which likely will be followed by more motions & activity prior to any trial.
12/3/20 Update: Defense attorney Ellen Michaels is scheduled for oral arguments on Wednesday, 12/9/20 over Zoom with a three-judge Michigan Court of Appeals panel regarding, according to Michaels, evidence she does not want presented at trial.
12/9/20 Update: Via Zoom, defense attorney Ellen Michaels & the state’s Assistant Attorney General Scott Shimkus stated their positions Wednesday during a 20-minute hearing. Michaels argued the Hines Park evidence would be wrongly used to paint Galloway as “a bad guy” with evil intent. “The petitioner is trying to use their speculation of what happened in this case to argue why these prior acts should be allowed in,” she said. “They don’t know what happened. What we know is that Danielle Stislicki is missing. “They are trying to bootstrap their version of events by allowing this prior incident into evidence. It is speculation that when they drove off together there was evil intent. There is no evidence to that.” County prosecutors never filed charges against Galloway in connection with Stislicki's death. State prosecutors did not officially charge him with Stislicki's murder until March 2019. Shimkus argued Wednesday that evidence gathered in the Hines Park investigation should be used in Galloway’s trial because it implies motive & intent while ruling out death by accident or mistake. “The People must prove intent to kill along with premeditation & deliberation,” Shimkus said. “The evidence on the attack (at Hines Park) goes certainly towards motive because it shows why Mr. Galloway wanted to get Danielle to his house & what he intended to do with her while she was there.” The deliberating panel consisted of judges Mark Cavanagh, Kathleen Jansen & Douglas Shapiro. Shapiro interrupted Shimkus, wanting the “things that match up” between the cases.
12/17/20 Update: Any jury charged with deciding whether Galloway schemed & successfully murdered a missing Danielle can ignore his 2016 sexual assault on a Hines Park runner – for now. The assault happened a few months before Stislicki’s December 2016 disappearance, and the Michigan Court of Appeals said in an opinion released Thursday that the cases are too dissimilar to risk "unfair prejudice" against the defendant. Appellate judges affirmed Oakland Circuit Judge Phyllis McMillen’s decision. State prosecutors still can take their arguments to the Michigan Supreme Court.

Where did you get that the trial is supposed to start in April? Is there an actual date? I don't see anything on the court site that mentions a trial date yet.
TIA! :)

@Niner : Just double-checked your link. No actual start date for this trial; just the pretrial beginning on 03182021.

Right - I have that date. Just that BDE's mentioned April.... was just wondering "where" she got that. :)

The trial for Danielle Stislicki’s accused killer has been postponed from the Jan. 27 start date previously scheduled.

Oakland County Circuit Court records show jury selection is now set to begin April 20 in the case against Floyd Galloway, Jr., charged with first-degree premeditated murder in Stislicki’s death...

Oops! Looks like this is an old article. Trial didn't start last April as originally scheduled. Mea culpa.

Court rules Floyd Galloway’s past crime is inadmissible in Danielle Stislicki murder case

Feb. 5, 2021
OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – There have been new developments in the case against Floyd Galloway, the man charged in the murder of Danielle Stislicki.

On Friday, a court of appeals ruled that part of Galloway’s past cannot be introduced in as evidence. Galloway’s admission to sexually attacking a jogger has been ruled as non-admissible, as he faces the charge of murder in a separate case.
[.....]
According to the ruling, the court rejected the prosecution’s argument that the attack on the jogger showed a common plan or scheme because there was no striking similarity between the two crimes.

The prosecution argued that the Hines Park crime was “admissible for the proper purposes of showing defendant’s motive, intent, lack of accident, identity and common scheme.” The appeals court disagreed.

Twenty-eight-year-old Danielle Stislicki was last seen on December 2, 2016 leaving her work at MetLife in Southfield, Michigan. She was supposed to meet a friend for dinner that evening, but never arrived. Text messages and calls to her went unanswered. The next day, a close friend who went to check on her found Danielle’s black 2015 Jeep Renegade parked in its usual spot right outside the entrance to her apartment complex. Floyd Galloway Jr. is charged with first degree murder in her case. Galloway is a former security guard at the MetLife building where Danielle worked at the time of her disappearance. Authorities searched Galloway’s residence three weeks after Danielle vanished. Floorboards, several pieces of carpet, a mattress and Galloway’s car were removed from his home and sent for testing, according to police. The judge ruled there was enough evidence to proceed to trial after Oakland County Medical Examiner Dr. Ljubisa J. Dragovic testified that he came to the conclusion Danielle died of asphyxiation, even though her body has not been found. The trial was initially scheduled for early 2020, but pushed back multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In October 2020, Circuit Court Judge Phyllis McMillen met with attorneys over Zoom and determined there will be a January 14, 2021 hearing. Galloway is currently in prison for choking and attempting to rape a jogger in Hines Park. Anyone with information regarding the case, or who may have seen Danielle or her Jeep on December 2, 2016, is urged to call the Farmington Hills Police Department at (248) 871-2610.
