Well his father had a lot to do with rnli in Dover, so would definitely have been around water and boats etc, I would imagine he'd have a grasp on where something could end up if thrown in, did someone also say it was a fishing area?, maybe somewhere he'd fished before knew the ins and outs of the rivers, seemed quite an outdoorsy type so I've read x
Thanks for that, it went farther west than I would have thought

I was trying to trace the stream that Rope Walk follows. After it crossed under New St, it's no longer really visible from the surface any more so it's going into an underground drain or culvert? It looks like the water would logically course along the path off Mill Wall and enter the River Stour.

So presumably, something put into the stream would be swept underground and possibly retained there or end up in the River Stour.

Maybe the alleged perp had experience doing something like that as kids with boats and went back to a familiar place to dispose of some thing that he thought could float and never be found caught in an underground pipe or culvert.

We have heard of a new search site this evening ,it is possible another one will also be discovered.
I hope not but that had crossed my mind. Are there any other reports of missing women from the area of recent that made the news?

The police must feel they have a very good idea of what happened from the images.

The reports say that the first footage captures 2 figures on the road and the car with the hazards on. The next footage shows the car with the two front doors open >2 mins later. Can we infer from that that the doors weren't open in the initial footage?

That seems to rule out a swift abduction. A coercion/arrest theory would fit with this. He stops the car, gets out and shuts the door, presents himself as an officer, they spend some time speaking, he then asks her to get into the car to take her details, both doors are open to try and make her feel at ease and then (potentially) when there is a low point in the traffic (after the 2nd bus footage) he pounces and shuts her in.

On the night of the arrest the police did that thorough search of Poynders Court and Rodenhurst corner as if they felt something had happened in there rather than just on the road. Perhaps he parked in there once she was in the car?

I'm struggling to see another scenario where both car doors would be open, if he was moving her body into the car then you'd think just the passenger's side would be open. If she opened the door to flee and he followed then wouldn't the most likely way to be right up/into the path of another car rather than off the side?

All JMO, the footage should be able to draw a good picture (interesting if she features in the footage with the car doors open or it doesn't pick anyone up either on the road or in the car)

I wonder if it was the same bus that captured both scenes two minutes apart? City buses are used frequently in the surveillance of crimes because they have so many cameras placed around the outside of the bus. That bus (or buses) could have recorded the 2 persons from a distance and as it approached closer, captured the vehicle with the doors open. Because it’s on video as the bus is approaching, I suspect they know exactly what happened in those two minutes if everything took place in the same spot, especially if there were people in the vehicle when the bus went by. There are cameras on the back of buses also, so as the buses went by, it was capturing all that was taking place before, during and after it went past. I wonder from which direction the bus was approaching. The bus operator could be a witness as well. Bus drivers notice when doors of parked cars are open because they are alert and expect someone to be exiting the car at any moment. They keep their eyes on the car because they don’t want to hit anybody stepping out into the roadway. (MOO).

It does seem increasingly likely that one of his vehicles has been seen in cctv entering the car park
There's a CCTV on the side of a building just at the curve of Cattle Market St.

It's just about where the "P" for parking is on the diagram. You can see it on Google Street View. It points towards the Guildhall building, but would catch someone entering the parklong lot there.

There’s lots is speculation that the erratic behaviour of accused is to set up a defence to murder charge. My view which is opinion only is that the loss of self control defence wouldn’t apply due to the circumstances. diminished responsibility would not be an ideal defence to run on a client’s behalf as you could end up getting them committed indefinitely without possibility of parole plus in any case there is a high evidence threshold to get over in that you have to get independent expert witnesses to verify mental condition. I think someone answered similar on a previous thread in relation to the question of being unfit to plead but does anyone who specialises in crime give their view or explain how defence of diminished responsibility work in practice eg is it run generally only where an accused genuinely does lack mental capacity to understand or be responsible for the consequences of their actions ? I’m really intrigued.

My post referred to them searching Sandwich and I wondered if we would see them at yet another different search site in connection to Sarah.

Moira Jones and her killer were caught by bus CCTV, picture on this news link gives an idea of what can be picked up.

CCTV footage of Moira Jones killer

Thanks for sharing this.

I wonder if whatever relevant CCTV they've got now will be released at some point, after/during trial maybe? I suppose it depends what's actually been caught on camera, because if it IS footage of an actual kidnapping, then I'd presume that would be too traumatic for her family to be released....any thoughts?

Rebecca Carr, was quite a few years ago I'm just looking now, she went missing from Gillingham 2002 x

It is all controlled via sluice gates which are rarely opened. Causes a lot of issues for the fishermen particularly in the summer.

The Delf flows into Sandwich from a series of springs in the Lydden Valley behind the town of Deal. Some sections are underground now but there are stretches, such as the L-shaped section here, that are open at street level.
The name ‘Delf’ sounds Dutch but it is actually from Old English for ‘ditch’ or ‘dig’. The Delf is not a natural stream; it was diverted by locals in the twelfth century. The water for this innovative system came from marshland outside the town walls.
The Delf was intended to supply the town with clean water but, despite strict laws to maintain it, the results were mixed. Animals got into the water, while beyond Horse Pond Sluice blacksmiths, butchers and tanners used the Delf for their work. The stream was also used to dispose of all kinds of waste.

As a result waterborne diseases were a constant problem in Sandwich. Even so the Delf was used for drinking water until the end of the nineteenth century.”

I have been lurking on this thread, it's always interesting to read Web Sleuthers posts on these types of cases. I sometimes get really emotionally impacted by and invested in these types of crimes and always feel reassured that I'm not out of the ordinary for this when I come to websleuths.

Regarding <modsnip> I was wondering if it's possible she might have been arrested because her car had been used in some manner by the accused. I find it hard to get my head around the idea she knowingly covered up his crime in some way but I do know it's possible. JMO.

Edited to add. I also wondered if poor <modsnip> had stood to look at her phone for a moment or two once her call ended. I often find myself stopping to hang up a call and noticing a notification in the process. Might have made it easier for her to be blindsided by someone.

My main knowledge applies to trials in Scotland but in many trials here (Moira Jones as mentioned above, Alesha MacPhail case, Paige Docherty case etc) quite extensive CCTV is released after conviction. Not 100% if if this as often the case in England though although I could be wrong.

Or she dropped it as he was bundling her into the boot... if she just finished call it was probably still in her hand and not pocket?

I still feel the accused would have to stop of somewhere to restrain her or possibly stop her from shouting because she would be shouting, screaming kicking and if he stopped off at traffic lights if any pedestrians we're about walking they might hear some commotion? coming from the back of the car and when the accused did stop off some where and open the boot she might have made an an attempt to escape IMO

I agree, don't think wife is involved IMO x

This is CCTV of Moira actually being abducted, he has her by the arm and is marching her into the park and this was released so I have a horrible feeling we may see something similar at trial..

It is a dreadful thought. Is there a chance that the suspect had some area set-up and he had to get rid of more items? I was under the impression that this was just a rural or hidden area but maybe there is more evidence of a broader activity and this is why law enforcement is looking in various places.

It will form part of the trial so the parents will see it at some point. All these cases are highly traumatic but that’s part and parcel and they would be free to leave the court room if they didn’t want to see some of the evidence as a lot of people do.
