I don't belive SE body was dismembered. I remembered reading "remains " were found but later changed to body.I think they regretted saying remains,as it led to unnecessary speculation IMO. They also said SE WAS identified by dental records, not HAD TO BE identified by dental records.A difference IMO.
Although I recall LE said remains had been found and that it was likely to take some time to identify who they belonged to. Which makes it less likely to have been simply a poor choice of words. It’s not clear, I agree, but the way it was phrased suggests the body was unidentifiable and wouldn’t be straight forward/quick to identify. Also bearing in mind the extensive searches that continue, it suggests to me that it wasn’t as simple as finding an intact body, sadly. JMO

According to BBC

"He is expected to appear before the Recorder of London in courtroom 10 of the Old Bailey at 10:00 GMT."

Which sounds to me like an actual appearance. Given the gravity of the situation I would think it is more likely it is an actual appearance. JMO. The mention of a videolink appearance was a rumour I believe. MOO

Sarah Everard: Met Police officer Wayne Couzens due at Old Bailey

I recognize the Courts have made some exceptions for public access to court proceedings during COVID but
I don't recall if bail hearings are typically available on videolink for public viewing or not.

I recall that pre-COVID, audio access of hearings at Central Criminal (Old Bailey) was available by invitation (i.e., emailing the court 24 hours in advance).

Looking at Courtserve for the 10 AM hearing today, it appears to me access for this hearing requires Crown Court Digital Case System credentials-- i.e., a Justice, CPS, eJudiciary or CJSM email address.

I'm not currently in UK so others may have better or updated information than provided above.

Out of interest, when this goes to trial, could anyone sit in the public gallery?

I know you can in the Old Bailey but I wonder if cases like this are made private?

Anyone can sit in the public gallery - subject to there being space in the court room. Certain restrictions apply (eg you cannot take in any sort of recording equipment/phone etc).

A large police presence in Sandwich again today, as of 9am. Lots of met police milling around, perhaps due to start shift. Some are inspecting the drains in the Guildhall car park, they have the covers open and are emptying out debris. Lots of videos online showing this.

Also, what looks to be large machinery heading to that part of town - one with wide drainage hose, the sort of thing you'd use to pump out or direct water. This could be completely unconnected of course, and feel free to delete or alert me if i need to remove any part of this post.

'My heart goes out to her parents' - Claudia’s mum on Sarah’s death

Her comments came as police officers investigating Sarah’s death combed a supermarket car park yesterday in the town of Sandwich, Kent, while specialist divers from Devon and Cornwall were seen searching a stretch of water.

Officers used sticks to search through a shopping trolley shelter outside a Co-operative supermarket, while others looked under vehicles.
Large portions of the historic town remained cordoned off with police tape as inquiries continued.

On the edge of the cordon, a few officers gathered for discussion as one showed their colleagues a piece of gold jewellery that was then put in an evidence bag.

Today they switched their attention to rubbish bins and drains, where they lifted grates to use sticks to try and clear debris for examination.

They were also seen carefully checking below a step near public toilets in the car park where they have been based for the past 48 hours.

Above them was a sign for CCTV cameras around the site, the footage on which may yield more clues as the town's Ropewalk area remained taped off.

There is currently rain pouring down there, which may slow down some of the searches.

Case management discussions ongoing
Discussions are ongoing between prosecutor Tom Little QC and the judge presiding over the case, Recorder of London Judge Mark Lucraft QC, around case management issues.

This is namely setting dates by which prosecution evidence should be served to the court.

A date for Couzens to plea and a second date for a provisional trial are also being discussed.

Where can I find these live updates

I read this as almost resentment. “Always being there” referred to his dad at the garage - not meaning being “there” for him as support.

You may be right. But I also can’t imagine working for ones parent for 20 years and there not being a close relationship. JMO but that’s a big commitment.

WARNING GRAPHIC

With respect to the statement that the autopsy was inconclusive as to how SE died I think it’s important to remember that we have no idea of the condition of the body.

If the body was burned, it could well be impossible to determine much of anything.

If any body parts were missing the same could apply.

MOO
Since an inquest by Coroner is already scheduled, I think it best not to speculate on the condition of the body at this time.

DBM as speculation and linked to suspect who is now reserved the right to a free trial.

(I have been at the Old Bailey this morning and chatted with a couple of police. Their views were interesting, didn’t know the case or any details - quite rightly. But was fascinating to get their general thoughts on a case like this. Also they confirmed the local photographers on site won’t catch him on camera as the suspect remained at Belmarsh).

Wow this is super quick considering how backlogged the system is. I feel for other cases and the families of other crimes which will no doubt be further delayed as they are pushing this forward it would seem.

Moo
I've got to ask, why do you think there is a backlog of cases? Trials have continued to happen throughout the pandemic. There was a case I was following last year - the offence was committed in May and the trial took place at the end of October (I think). That was also a murder case also involving a PO.

Edited to add link to case
