#DerekChauvinTrial - On cross exam by prosecutor Hill said when Floyd woke up to police with a gun he starting saying, "please don't kill me, please don't shoot me" Frank cut her off to ask her specific questions, Hill showed irritation at at that.

Under cross Hill said Floyd was not complaining about shortness of breath or chest pains.

Mpls Park Officer Peter Chang now on the stand. He arrived on the scene responding to the call.

SHAWANDA HILL ON STAND: Defense has called #GeorgeFloyd companion Shawanda Hill to testify. Before jury comes in, Judge Cahill debriefs w/ her about her testimony. Tells her she can plead the 5th, but will likely be asked if she was under influence at time of the deadly arrest.

Shawanda Hill testimony is underway. She tells court she ran into #GeorgeFloyd inside Cup Foods on Memorial Day. They headed to the SUV together. She described Floyd as "happy, normal, talking & alert" in the store. Says he fell asleep in vehicle as she took a cell phone call.

Hill testifies #GeorgeFloyd was sleeping hard in the SUV driver seat. She tried several times to wake him up and couldn't. Hill says Floyd eventually woke up as she tried one more time & police approached, with gun at window.

And that wraps Shawanda Hill testimony. She was not asked in open court if she was under the influence of controlled substances during her time w/ #GeorgeFloyd. Defense now calling Park Police officer Peter Chang to the stand.

INSIDE THE SUV: Shawanda Hill telling the jury about her attempts & those of Cup Food employees to wake up #GeorgeFloyd as Floyd slept in the driver's seat of his SUV.

Nelson is asking Chang a series of question to describe what happened on May 25, 2020.

Chang says he went to help Lane & Keung when he saw them at their squad w/Floyd. He says they told him to watch the car.

Chang says his main focus was the car and the two passengers.

Chang: Yeah, so there was the crowd and I suppose becoming more loud and aggressive. A lot of yelling across the street.
Nelson: Did that cause you any concern concern?
Chang: For the officer safety yes.

Chang: Yes, I was focused on the car ...and I was concerned for the officer safety, too, so I just kept an eye on the officers and passengers…

TW: They’re going to play about 3 minutes of Officer Peter Chang’s body worn camera video. It starts w/him driving to the scene.

They said that when Chang ran GF’s name something came up which will not be allowed. Why? Depending on what it was, that seems much more important than showing video of any of his prior arrests. Usually that information gets relayed to responding officers. Who knows if the initial officers then relayed that to others who responded later though.

Chang: Yeah, so there was the crowd and I suppose becoming more loud and aggressive. A lot of yelling across the street.
Nelson: Did that cause you any concern concern?
Chang: For the officer safety yes.

Concern for officer safety but none for GF... Come on, now, Chang, really??

To the left, you see Officer Lane w/Shawanda Hill & Morries Hall. On the right, Officer Keung is talking to a seated George Floyd.

Keung then hands Chang a piece of paper w/Floyd’s name.

It stops as Officer Chang enters George Floyd’s name in his computer. This is the portion that Judge Cahill ordered be removed.

I’m not sure. But what I got from it was that he was high on something. Obviously he was not easy to wake. IMO. He’s got two drug dealers in the car with him...not sure the jury is aware of that part.
If Nelson can continue to drill drugs and overdose into the minds of the jurors, he has a fighting chance. I'll say again, I think DC is guilty as sin, but the defense has the right to put on a strong case just like the prosecution did.

re: the crowd

I think it’s often important in these situations to be proactive rather than reactive, when possible. Although the crowd never got out of hand (IMO), I did see moments where it seemed like they were about to. I can see the officers being uncomfortable. You never know when things will escalate.

You can hear Shawanda say something like “he still won’t get in the car, just sit down George!”
“Look they’re still fighting him! Oh man, what is he doing?"

Chang asks Morris Hall his name and he responds w/ “Ricardo.”

Morries Hall tells Chang he was also handed fake bills, but he tore his up and points to what looks like paper on the ground…

#DerekChauvinTrial - Now playing footage from Ofc. Chang's body cam - note: the date/time on the footage is incorrect.

Footage shows Chang arriving on the scene, George Floyd on the ground with Kueng asking his name

On Chang's body cam footage Shawanda Hill is watching #GeorgeFloyd across the street, "He won't get the car!...just get in the car.." She continues watching, "They're still fighting him. What is he doing?"
