Accused backyard killer gave ’coherent’ instructions to lawyer before attack

Court: Brian Johnston charged with Kelly Wilkinson’s murder after her body was found burned in a backyard

A man charged with the murder of Queensland mother-of-three Kelly Wilkinson had visited his lawyer just 48 hours before her death in relation to a “domestic violence issue”.

Brian Earl Johnston, 34, did not appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning where he was remanded in custody.

He is facing charges of murder and breaching a domestic violence order over her death, as well as one count of breaching bail conditions.

Ms Wilkinson’s body was found burned in the backyard of a home on Spikes Court at Arundel on the Gold Coast on Tuesday, after a concerned neighbour called police following a disturbance about 6.40am.

Police say there were three children in the home at the time.

Mr Johnston was located two blocks away at a nearby address in a “semiconscious state”, also with burn injuries, police said on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Ms Wilkinson was identified via a fundraising page which was created to help support her children and plan for the funeral.

Mystery plea before mum’s alleged murder

Kelly Wilkinson, Gold Coast: Mystery plea before mum’s horrific death

Just days before the horrific death of a Queensland mother-of-three, the family of the man accused of killing her made a strange plea for help.

That man has now been confirmed to be 27-year-old Ms Wilkinson’s estranged partner Brian Johnston, 35, who was found two blocks away from her on a front lawn in a “semiconscious” state shortly after officers arrived at the scene.

On April 6, two weeks before the alleged murder, Johnston’s sister Kelly Kruft created the ‘Help Brian and his Children’ page.

“I’m Kelly, Brian’s sister, this is all I know to do to help my brother currently since he is in Australia! He needs our help! Please and Thank you! God Bless,” the nondescript fundraiser read.

A day after creating the page, which featured a photo of Johnston’s three children, Ms Kruft took to Facebook to plead for donations.

“We are asking for your help and most definitely your prayers please! I can’t go into details currently but Brian needs his family and friends!!!!” she wrote.

Gold Coast: Inside marriage that ended with husband allegedly setting ex-wife Kelly Wilkinson alight | Daily Mail Online

From a blissful wedding to idyllic family holidays and three adorable children: Inside the seemingly perfect marriage that ended with former US Marine estranged husband allegedly setting his ex-wife alight

A former US Marine accused of setting alight and killing his Australian ex-wife had once enjoyed a blissful wedding and picture-perfect family holidays together.

The body of Kelly Wilkinson, 27, was discovered in the back yard of her Arundel home on the Gold Coast in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Police were called to the Spikes Court property at 6.40am after neighbours reported hearing an explosion and screams coming from the home.

The couple's three young children aged from two to nine were inside the home at the time of the alleged attack but are all safe.

Unbelievably horrifying. This poor dear, young mother. Plus her own mom had passed away recently.

He was afraid of being deported? This young lady had allegations against him. His sister has to know what they are.

Kelly Wilkinson I am so sorry. These poor babies. Now what?

What is going on in Australia?! It's almost a repeat of the same kind of killing that happened in 2020 - also in Brisbane -when Rowan Baxter set his wife Kelly and their 3 children alight in her car as she backed out of their driveway on the way to school. They all sadly passed away at the scene.
Dad who set family on fire was a ‘monster’

Also another incident in 2018 of a man setting his wife on fire in the bedroom at their home in Sydney, NSW! He used petrol and pushed her into the flames, where she sadly passed away.
Man guilty of wife's murder after she ended their marriage

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

It's truly horrific. So much more needs to be done in relation to domestic violence, and in response to initial pleas for help. There's been another one involving a poor sweet child:

Police reveal history of domestic violence following suspected murder-suicide of 'beautiful' baby girl

SA Police reveal identity of man and baby girl who died at Whispering Wall

Henry Shepherdson, 38, jumped from the Whispering Wall tourist attraction with his nine-month-old daughter Kobi late yesterday.

Police say there is a history of domestic violence in the family.

The little girl’s mother has released photographs of her daughter and has asked for privacy.

"We have been notified of some domestic violence incidents and reports in relation to this family," Mr Parrott said.

"There are court processes in place in relation to this family as well.

He confirmed families with children saw what happened at the wall yesterday, with support being provided to all witnesses.

Tokenistic taskforces will not stop another Kelly, Hannah or Doreen from dying
No Cookies | The Courier Mail

“DEAR God, not again.”

It was the thought that crossed all our minds when news broke of yet another woman burned to death allegedly by her estranged partner.

It was the second day back to school after the Easter holidays. Her sobbing children crouched nearby watching her die.

Kelly’s ex-husband and former US Marine Brian Earl Johnston, 34, who is in an induced coma, was charged with murder.

It’s impossible to imagine Kelly’s terror during those final moments, sacrificing herself to protect her children, dying in immense pain, knowing that she did all she could to break free but it was still not enough to save her.

No human with a beating heart could possibly become desensitised to mothers being burned alive in front of their children.

And yet, how much more can we take?

Kelly is now the third Queensland victim of alleged domestic violence in the past 62 days along with Doreen and Robyn Beever, 82, since the state government declared yet another taskforce to tackle domestic violence, this time into coercive control.

One woman is killed every nine days and 17 adults are hospitalised every day due to assaults by a partner or family member, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics 2016 Personal Safety Survey.

A DVO is in place in one-third of domestic and family violence murders in Queensland.

How many more dead women who desperately believed a DVO would protect them will it take for more to be done?

Is this like the second case of a man in australia setting his wife on fire?? Are men ok??

It's the third :( but probably more if you extend the timeframe. And there's been another murder-suicide today....seems like an everyday news report right now, just overwhelmingly sad.

Two people found dead in ‘murder-suicide’

Two people found dead in apparent murder-suicide at Labrador apartment block

A crime scene has been established at a Queensland apartment block after two bodies were discovered in a horrific suspected murder-suicide.

Officers were first called to the Labrador unit when a 53-year-old man was found dead about 10.20am on Friday.
A second body – believed to be that of a 48-year-old woman – was then found at the residence and a crime scene was declared about 11.40am.

Kelly Wilkinson endured almost a decade of abuse by her husband. He dictated how she could wear her hair and how she dressed. No driving for her and no job. She left for home from the US to escape him he followed.

Once back in Australia she confided in her mom who sadly died just seven weeks before Kelly.

Probably the wore part? She did recently get a protection order against her murderer. He violated it twice. Kelly went to police those two times. They have admitted to failing her.

What else could this lovely young mom do? Imagine stuck in the States with this control freak, abusive, murderer? Get home and here he comes back with his BS? Get a restraining order, but nobody but your family helps! Then you're lit on fire?

May her children always know how tough their mommy was. That she loved them.

Meanwhile prior to his last deadly attack a full grown man of military booh hoped he was allllllll alone in Australia!

Rest fiercely valiant Mama. Your death is not in vain.

Couldn't agree more Filly....it's details like below that show just how much he wanted her to feel terrorised right up to her last breath of life. Who knows if he even gave a thought to what he was subjecting his children to.

The chilling preparations made by the former U.S. marine accused of killing his ex-partner | Daily Mail Online

Knives, duct tape, rope, an army camouflage duffel bag and a jerry can were allegedly found by police at the scene in the Gold Coast suburb of Arundel - suggesting frightening preparations before he allegedly killed and set his former partner Kelly Wilkinson alight while their three children were present.

The items were reportedly found in the backyard beside Ms Wilkinson's burnt body, while one of three knives he was allegedly carrying was also found nearby.

Allison Baden-Clay's sister despairs at news of Kelly Wilkinson's death.

The alleged murder of Gold Coast mother-of-three Kelly Wilkinson hits close to home for the family of Brisbane woman Allison Baden-Clay.
Ms Baden-Clay, also a mother-of-three, was murdered by her husband Gerard in 2012.
Her sister Vanessa Fowler today told 9News she heard of Ms Wilkinson's death nine years to the day her sister was killed.

"I feel such despair when I hear that another life is lost and realise that we have just so much more to do," Ms Fowler said.
"The system is broken, she did everything right, she engaged with the system and she reached out for support."

Thank you for starting this thread Strangeworld, around we go again, no change since Allison's death.
Kelly was murdered exactly 9 years after Allison was murdered, both by their partners and many in the years between.

9 years and there is no change.
blessings to the children.
Like Allison, Kelly has a strong family who, hopefully, might band together with Allison's family and fight on with the help of an enraged Australia.

It is week 49 of the year and 46* women have now died violently.
It is the first time the Counting Dead Women Australia researchers of Destroy The Joint have recorded three deaths in a single day since the register began in 2012.

The vast majority of the violent deaths suffered by 47 other women in Australia this year, like the trauma suffered by hundreds and thousands of other women and children living with abusive partners, happen behind closed doors.

These matters remain “private”. And so it is that two women can be violently killed in their homes within the space of a single hour in Australia on Monday without it attracting national news coverage with the urgency that two separate deaths otherwise would.

Had two sharks claimed two lives at different beaches within the space of an hour on Monday, tell me it wouldn’t make front page news?

Hiya TGY! Hope you are doing well :)
Wow 9 years, and still feels like little progress to keep women safe. How many more will it take? :(

State MP Sam O'Connor has organised a candlelight vigil to be held at the Gold Coast Titans training oval at The Club at Parkwood Village.
The vigil will start at 4.45pm.

Kelly leaves behind three beautiful kids and one of her sisters who already has five kids of her own, looks like she will be taking them."
But he said the entire Gold Coast community had also been affected by Ms WIlkinson's death.

Out in the Australian suburbs and currently alive are 12 women who will be murdered by their partners, ex-partners or a male acquaintance over the next three months.

Before politicians get together for a domestic violence summit in late July, it is all but certain around a dozen women, probably right now living in fear and under AVOs which cannot protect them, will die.

A 31-year-old French woman was shot and burned alive by her estranged husband in broad daylight, authorities said, in a brutal killing that has stunned the country and reignited anger over femicides

French woman shot and burned by her estranged husband as anger builds over femicides

Dear Lord what is going on? Had her protection order. He'd already did time for beating her to a pulp.

Three children without their mom. 39 cases of feminine alone in France.

When I search for Kelly Wilkinson I realise I have to look for her murderous husband's name......can we change this thread to Kelly Wilkinson please?

Why should we utter that filthy *advertiser censored*'s name or type it for that matter!
