TX - Hailey Dunn, 13, murdered, Scurry County, Dec 2010 *Arrest in 2021, released in 2023* #4

Well hey y'all...I was shocked at this news about SA for sure...could Hailey finally be getting justice??
Couple of things have caught my eye-
Have seen it mentioned several places , here and else where, that Hailey's remains were found on SA family property. But to the best of my memory, it was Lake JB Thomas property owned by the Colorado Water Municipal Water District.

As far as DNA from those pants, found in the area of the remains, having any useful sample for analysis...I venture to guess no, based on these articles and others. Sunlight, heat, humidity and water can all degrade DNA. I may be wrong though.

DNA Evidence: Basics of Identifying, Gathering and Transporting

Really curious about this 'physical evidence' submitted to the DA in 2018 that went untested. Wonder where 'it' was held all those years? Makes me wonder about contamination...

She wasn't found for 3 years, so maybe somebody can tell us whether that is possible - it seems doubtful to me. I was thinking that they had DNA from the house - per Tricia's interview with Billie Dunn (which she played yesterday on the Websleuths live chat), I think they got the sheets from Hailey's bed (among other things). Of course it would be expected for Shawn's DNA to be in the house, but there still might be some DNA from that search that they could say should not have been there.
No real reason for a lot of his DNA to be on her bed sheets.

Not to be morbid, but when it is skeletal remains, would there still be fingernails?

Fingernails are made of soft protein. They will decompose over time- unless a body is kept in perfectly dry conditions; ie mummies in Egypt.

Skin decomposes faster. Any of the perpetrator’s DNA left under fingernails would likely be long gone after sitting in water for years.

It is so satisfying, knowing he is sitting in jail right now, freaked out, and probably insulted and indignant to how he could possibly even be there all those years later- after living daily with the in-your-guts personal belief that he was truly going to get away with it.

Just think of it. All of his disgusting fetishes- over. Thinking he is so much more clever than LE- done. Going where he wants, socialising with who he wants, even the simple choice of eating what he wants or experiencing sunlight and fresh air whenever he wants- FINISHED!

It makes my heart sing.

Hi sreshowtime!! Good to see you posting again!!

From your link-
“Clint Dunn and I were both told that when Hailey was discovered—when Hailey was found—that Shawn would be arrested,” Morse said. “That was in 2013. The day after she was positively identified the Scurry County District Attorney’s Office requested the case based off jurisdiction and they stalled it for seven years.”

In the six years since she started working on this case, Morse said she brought many tips to the DA’s investigator that she believes were never followed up on.

On top of that, she said there’s a key piece of physical evidence that was submitted to the DA’s office in 2018 that connects Adkins to the murder, but it wasn’t tested until recently.

“And lo and behold, the results were exactly as we expected them to be,” Morse said.

Lloyd recently told KTXS that he found a skull, a tooth and a femur, along with blue warmups that Hailey Dunn, then 13, was believed to have been wearing when she disappeared in late December 2010.

Man who found Hailey Dunn's remains likely won't receive Colorado City reward

Bringing this up to refresh our memories.
Snipped for focus, thanks for this refresher, it's been a long time since I was familiar with the facts of this case. Do we know that the above listed were ALL that were found or just that these are the remains Lloyd located and called LE about? in other words do we know that the authorities didn't locate more remains than just what Lloyd saw before reporting them?

This DNA thing has me so curious. I am trying to imagine what sort of DNA belonging to Shawn could still be on skeletal remains and a pair of sweats after several years out in the elements.

I've thought about that as well. Perhaps something that showed a protentional injury or weapon? It wouldn't be something that would directly link Adkins, but put together with other evidence (cell phone ping perhaps) becomes nicely circumstantial.

Do we have a link to that interview of Tricia and Billie Jean?

It it this one (from June 15, 2021):

the Billie Dunn phone interview starts at around 56:50 or shortly thereafter. The interview was done in 2012 so it was before Hailey's body was found.
thx I needed to refresh !

You're right, getting a new sample which was properly handled and will stand up in court is smart. What his DNA was found on will be interesting. Hopefully it will be something which couldn't be explained by living in the same house.
Like if someone talked and they maybe found evidence on a murder weapon?

Remember that press conference Billie held in her front yard? The one where she created and handed out her own timeline of events? She states in that timeline, that she got a ride to work on Monday from a co-worker. Strike one Billie ...

I copied and brought forward an old post from 2012. Can someone find the linked pdf document on the wayback machine or whatever that thing is called?

That was not archived by way back but here is the press conference. She starts reading her timeline around 3:00. It has closed captions.

Mon, dec 27:[4:10]. 6:30 am,

“Peeked in at Hailey, because I am used to seeing her sleep on the couch, she wasn’t there I remembered oh yah, she is in her room… , peeked in, it was dark but her tv was on, and it definitely pacified me

“ I didnt touch her, But I seen my Daughter, it felt good, and I came into my living room to wait on my ride”

I found the media/documents thread. (it's labelled media, but many media threads folks also put in legal stuff so easier to locate later?) Linking as hasn't been updated since September 2020. For background, and if others want to add to. FYI
