It's a very good question. I also think he pounced, living only in the moment and with alcohol playing a role. If he's experienced (which I think he is), he knew he had a short window of time before the alarm went out. He didn't realize his victim's mom was ON IT and knew her daughter was missing very quickly. I think he expected a bit more time.

But where to put her? I don't know if he even had a car? Would have "displayed" her outdoors in the neighborhood during the night, perhaps? Could he be that brazen? IDK....haven't thought about it until now.

Part of me thinks he doesn't really care that he was caught and therefore didn't plan ahead.

Agree. His life is in and out of prison.
Gets away with 9 out of ten things, and not too worried should he get caught.

The live streams are great; at least we learn what's going on. I've seen Tippecanoe streaming but never paid any attention as to which courts they were.

I’m not familiar with this court - is the 7/16 pretrial conference going to be live streamed? Thanks!

I "think" I asked this question before...

How can they have a change of venue hearing AFTER trial....
IMO it's unlikely that the trial will take place on that date. It's way too early. Maybe they need to have the pretrial conference before they cancel the JT dates?

I'll check this morning to see if that court streams.

None of the Tippi courts are streaming today. I don't follow that county so I don't know if any or all have stopped. I'll keep checking every few days and if I see that court streaming, I'll post it.

Friday, July 16th:
*Pretrial Hearing (@ 8:30am CT) - IN – Girl, 9 (missing April 19, 2021, Lafayette, found in his home) - *James Brian Chadwell II (42) was arrested & charged (4/19/21) with attempted murder, attempted intentional killing of another, 2 counts of child molestation, kidnapping (where victim is less than 14 yrs old), criminal confinement resulting in serious bodily harm, battery resulting in serious bodily injury where victim is under 14 yrs old & strangulation. Plead not guilty. $500K surety and $50K cash.
Investigators who for years have been working to solve the killings of two girls in Delphi, Indiana, are looking into a kidnapping suspect in nearby Lafayette, Indiana, to see if there "might" be a connection, the sheriff said. There are "several factors" leading police working the 2017 Delphi killings to look into this month's alleged kidnapping of a 9-year-old girl, Carroll County Sheriff Tobe Leazenby told ABC News on Wednesday.
Trial was set to begin on 8/10/21 rescheduled to 8/17/21.

4/19/21 Update: In Lafayette -- about 20 miles away from Delphi -- a 9-year-old girl was reported missing on April 19, 2021, according to the probable cause affidavit filed on Tuesday. Officers were searching the neighborhood & spoke with James Brian Chadwell II, who allegedly said the girl had been at his home earlier, but had since left, according to the probable cause affidavit. Police asked Chadwell, 42, for his permission to check his home & Chadwell allowed the officers inside, the document said. In his basement -- which was secured with a chain lock -- officers found the missing girl, who was "visibly distraught & crying, with her clothing on the floor beside her," the document said. The girl "said Chadwell tried to kill her," according to the affidavit. Chadwell faces charges including attempted murder, child molestation, kidnapping & strangulation, according to records. A not guilty plea was entered on Chadwell's behalf. His next hearing is set for June 10.

Arrest in April. Trial in October, maybe. "Agreement of parties" is a powerful thing.

Are there deals to be struck? Is this normal? Does the defense need another three months on top of the three it's been already? Neither side minds. My mind wants to do things with this, but I don't know Indiana.
