Vanessa Guillen’s fiance, closest friends detail upsetting investigation

A lot of information from the family's and friends' point of view in this article. I didn't know that Vanessa was engaged.

I don't recall that either, although google does mention such back in July of 2020. Also at link, Watch the full story on "20/20" TONIGHT at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.

"Guillen’s loved ones say she had always been a fitness fanatic. Her fiancé Juan Cr*z, who proposed to her in March 2020, said that she had remarkable strength -- so much so that she could carry him on her shoulders."

..."Hight**er planned to go hiking with Guillen on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, the day she went missing."

“The plan was to go hiking whenever she got off work,” he said. “She had suspected it was gonna be a half-day. The last time she texted me was that morning, and she just sent a screenshot with the weather. It said it was gonna rain.”...

At 6 p.m, Hig***wer says he went looking for her. “I went to her room and her roommate answered the door,” he said. “I asked, ‘Have you seen Guillen?’ And she said no. So I went back outside and I walked to the parking lot, and I saw her Jeep there. At that time, I suspected something was up.”

Vanessa Guillen supporters to protest at Cecily Aguilar hearing | kcentv.com with video

Guillen supporters are set to protest in front of the courthouse Wednesday, demanding Aguilar remain imprisoned for her alleged role in the death and disappearance. Aguilar's attorney, Lewis Gainor, filed a motion in late March to have statements Aguilar made about Guillen's death tossed out. Gainor argued Aguilar's Fourth Amendment Rights were violated as she was illegally detained. Officers also failed to advise Aguilar of her Miranda rights, according to the motion. In response to the motion filed by Aguilar’s attorney, prosecutor Mark Frazier argued that the defense’s claim that Aguilar was not properly mirandized are not supported by the facts of the case or the law.

The defense filed another motion in late April to have Aguilar’s indictment dismissed altogether. The motion argues that the indictment lacks specificity, fails to state an offense and charges the same offense in more than one count. Aguilar’s defense argues the indictment includes no other alleged factual basis or allegations.

Judge Albright is set to rule on the motions on Wednesday, June 16 with Aguilar in attendance. Supporters of Guillen are set to protest in front of the courthouse that day, demanding that Aguilar remain imprisoned, according to the post.

Judge denies motion to toss confession in Cecily Aguilar trial

June 17, 2021
WACO, Texas (KTRK) -- After a hearing that lasted almost four hours, a judge in Texas denied a motion requested by Cecily Aguilar, the woman accused of helping dismember and hide the body of Fort Hood Army Specialist Vanessa Guillen, asking that her confession be thrown out.
[.....]
ABC13's Steve Campion was the only Houston reporter at her court appearance in Waco. For the first time, video of Aguilar's conversation with investigators was revealed.

The 22-year-old is seen on camera saying, "I'm ready to get this **** over with" before sitting down to speak with them.

Aguilar's public defenders have not spoken publicly about the case. Eyewitness News also learned that Aguilar told investigators Robinson forced her to participate in the crime saying he held a gun to her head and demanded her to go to the Leon River that evening in April.

Aguilar also claims her phone was taken away and that officers did not tell her anything she said could be held against her in court.

Abbott signs Vanessa Guillen Act into law | kcentv.com

AUSTIN, Texas — The Vanessa Guillen Act, also known as Senate Bill 623, was signed June 16 by Gov. Greg Abbott and will become state law on September 1.

The bill was filed by Sen. Cesar Blanco around the one-year anniversary of Guillen's death. It aims to protect military members who report sexual harassment and sexual assault without fear of retaliation, lack of confidentiality or concern that nothing will be done.
