UID Victim: Toddler's Mother, Peaches, found Hempstead Lake State Park June 1997 #4

My gut says Peaches’ identity is right under someone’s nose and they don’t realize it.

Strictly opinion and yep, as I’ve previously suggested: I think she’s from one of the racially diverse neighborhoods comprising Queens and was likely a victim of circumstance - she wasn’t a working girl, but accepted a ride from a seemingly kind stranger who turned out to be LISK.

Peaches disappeared in the mid-nineties when LISK likely prowled the streets because escort agencies kept records. Back then, anywhere along Roosevelt Avenue, Queens Plaza, and the LIRR hub at Sutphin & Archer in Jamaica was a hotbed of prostitution, and all had an eclectic mix of working girls and regular folks just trying to catch a train, bus, or cab.

Whoever knows Peaches probably isn’t aware of the LISK case or if they are, it’s because they occasionally saw it on the news but didn’t give it much thought. Go deep into these Queens neighborhoods, someone’s going to say “yeah, I knew a girl with that tattoo, but I thought she just went away…”

Lastly, if Peaches wasn’t reported missing, it’s not necessarily because no one cared about her. Often, the families friends of the missing have no idea where to start, who or what agency to contact, or maybe they assume someone else already made a report. I guarantee Peaches’ name is closer than we think, at least I pray that it is.

I believe “peaches” tattoo looks more like an Apricot!

Didn't baby doe have earings like that little girls? Not to mention, missing since 1997 made me wonder if you're on to somthing.
It looks like according to the Charley Report's write up, that the mothers body was identified when a body washed up on shore about a month after their disappearance. Although the toddlers body was never found, it looks like it rules them out of this case. /:

Hello! long time lurker, first time poster.
I have been doing my own research on the Peaches doe over the last few months, and have had a few interesting responses that I found interesting (but arent sure what to do with them).
1.) I found a thread on reddit where a member said that they had the exact same jewelry set that was purchased in South America, specifically Chile in the late 80's.
2.) Another user had written that the brand of shirt that was found with peaches was a brand that was only sold in South America. I am currently searching through my folders to try and find exactly what brand they were referring to, but it seemed like someone who was from/familiar with South America and felt confident that it was a regional clothing brand.
Could Peaches and child not be on a missing persons list because they were possibly an immigrant, either new to the area, or a first generation immigrant whose family was residing in South America?
Could Peaches have visited their family after having her baby in America, i.e. perhaps there is a flight log for mother and child somewhere out there from 1995-1997?
I know this is a long shot, but I talked directly to the person who had the same jewelry set, and said it was purchased while visiting her family in Chile, and confirmed the brand name being regional as well.
Is there even a missing persons database in South America? I've tried looking but am having no luck

Not necessarily.

Former Police Commissioner Hart said there were problems with the samples extracted from the toddler’s remains, and if none of Peaches’ relatives have submitted DNA samples to public databases - and they aren’t stored in criminal databases - then there is no basis for a comparison or a match.

DNA is a great tool when a match is out there, but if no match is available the wait for one is pure torture. My daughter was drugged and raped by four men last August and though DNA samples were collected, they do not match anyone in the national crime database.

I'm sorry this happened to your daughter. Ask the detective to enter DNA into GED match to find who commited this crime.

Cops are probably using GED match to find someone related to peaches. It will only work if a relative used a genealogy site.
NY was the last state in the country given permission to use GED match to solve crimes. This occurred in 2019.

They don’t need a relative match to learn from her DNA. It can narrow down her likely area of origin/ancestral region which would greatly lessen the pool of people the police would need to look at.

To accurately identify her - yes- her DNA and/or familial DNA needs to be in a database. Creating a nationality profile is one thing, while identification is quite another.

Identification often doesn’t happen via one factor alone. An ancestral/location based DNA profile can dramatically reduce the pool of possible people that could be Peaches. This is particularly so for non-Europeans in America the mix of their DNA can give a great deal of clues as to who she is and where she was from.

At the moment she is still described as being a light skinned black woman or a Latina. Analysis of her DNA is could answer that question. If she’s a light skinned black woman it would be possible to work out how long ago Hispanic or Northern European entered her ancestral DNA - that may be able to show that she had one white/one black parent or one white grandparent. DNA matching to a European country some generations back plus DNA from their place of origin in Africa can often narrow down where in the Americas she came from.

Europeans had their own colonies in Africa from which they took slaves and their own colonies in the Americas where those slaves ended, up, often intermingling with those of the Europeans who enslaved them.

So (for example) if Peaches was shown to have some Portuguese DNA with also Mozambique (Portuguese colony) DNA plus some indigenous American DNA her ancestral areas could be dramatically narrowed down too.

That info narrowing down the pool of possible identities can be used alongside other info to find her identity.

As a metaphor, discovering an identity is usually a jigsaw - not a single photograph.

Something that I am curious about, I do not know if this has been talked about in earlier posts, but if potentially LISK is the one who murdered both Peaches and Baby Doe, and the theories I have been reading saying that he would dismember to make them harder to identify and for easier disposal, why was their jewelry not taken? Identifying things like those would be easy to pick up on, and just as a precaution to remove things like jewelry. Out there thought, but could Peaches' mother done something similar with her like Peaches did with her daughter with matching jewelry?

See I always felt that peaches and the baby were not connected to LISK though marrige/dating because why would LISK leave jewlery that can be traced back to him. He may have known Peaches enough for her to feel comfortable hence why the child was there. I personally think a lot of these woman have drivers especially while going out to remote areas such as Long Island, so if a woman brought her child escorting with her I would think she would leave the child in the car with the driver for safety.

You know this post has really made me think. You (and I) have both assumed that this jewellery was theirs. Something worn habitually, that other people would see and link to them. So why would he leave such identifying things there, he’s a clever man (assuming it’s one killer and Baby Doe being found with parts of Valerie Mack seem to indicate they were killed by a serial killer) and unlikely to make such a simple mistake.

Both were nude and wrapped in generic bedding. So he DID remove their clothing and all other identifiable objects (except the tattoo). So perhaps they weren’t the jewellery they typically wore but jewellery he gave them as part of the grooming process? A man who brings little gifts for you and your daughter, seems kind, generous and is nice to your child.

That might explain the matching jewellery as well, it’s not that usual for mother’s and toddlers to match jewellery (especially as toddlers are going to lose them in a heart beat so you won’t have matching sets for long), but if buying new jewellery gifts for a mother and daughter, getting matching would be done often and if new the toddler would still have the full set.

As usual I will qualify this is just speculation, but I think the jewellery was something he gave to them shortly before capturing/killing them so he was comfortable leaving it behind as nobody would link it to them. That I feel quite strongly is a possibility.

Another possibility is that he did that and deliberately brought jewellery associated with a certain ethnic group Peaches did not belong to, to create confusion. There is still ambiguity over whether she is light skinned black or Hispanic and I’ve seen a lot of people peg her as Hispanic, right down to country of origin, based on this jewellery.

The tattoo as well….why not remove that? It was on her breast. If he WAS in a relationship with her he may have known only them and the tattooist had seen it and the tattooist had none of her details.

Neither the jewellery nor the tattoo have led to identification despite there being the most clues around those two. Were some of Valerie Mack’s remains left with baby Doe as another red herring so they were assumed to be mother and child?

It really feels to me like the jewellery was left as he knew nobody could link it to them. Maybe the tattoo as well.

I wish the cops would submit peaches DNA to parabon. They would get a likeness of what peaches looked like.
