I am waiting to hear more about how these sisters ended up disappearing and then being found deceased. I am wondering if there is any coverage of this story in Switzerland...

From the linked news article:

Phoenix sisters who were originally reported missing after they didn’t return home from their trip to Switzerland are dead, according to an update from friends. In a Facebook post on Friday night, the friends say they were given confirmation that Dr. Lila Ammouri and Susan Frazier died.
...
According to the Facebook group, the sisters flew from Chicago to Switzerland on Feb. 3. and were scheduled to come home on Feb. 13. Friends in the group said the last time anybody heard from Ammouri and Frazier, they were in Basel. Then friends found out the two never checked in for their flight home.

Hmmm

I just checked the Pegosos website and they needed a third person to be nominated to identify their bodies. I wonder who they nominated?

If they truly did apply for VAD there will be a financial and Application digital trail.

Something is off here.

I find it especially difficult to believe that a doctor who could have simply written herself (or her sister, to make it even less suspicious) a prescription for the necessary drugs would have gone to such lengths and expense for exactly the same thing.

Maybe the medical professional mentality that they were going to see specialists who they could be sure would do it "right".

I certainly hope the US Consulate gets the identity of their "witness" and copies of the signed affidavits. There must be more records available than what we're seeing here right?

Could this perhaps be a way people might fake their own deaths? Pay some criminal to provide a couple bodies, "that's them alright".

Info about the Swiss assisted suicide facility Pegasos where these women ended their lives, thru Voluntary Assisted Death (VAD). Nothing specific to their them or circumstances.

Their brother said that he was unaware of anyone travelling w them, who could make the mandatory post-death identification.
Seems he is not the first to raise the issue.

"What if I have no one to come with me to Pegasos?

"For legal reasons, everyone who comes for a VAD at Pegasos must have someone known to them who is able to identify them to the authorities after they have died.
"If you do not have a family member or friend willing or able to come with you to Pegasos, we suggest you join Exit International.
"Once you are a member of Exit International you can discuss with them how they may be able to identify you after you are gone; thereby fulfilling the Swiss regulations."

Did they leave an itinerary with a close friend or family member?
What was the primary reason for their trip?
Sightseeing, museums, skiing?
February - cold/snow?
Had they ever been to Switzerland before?
Talked about it to anyone in their group?
Do they have elderly parents and overwhelmed with caregiving or other family responsibilities?

One sister is a Palliative Care Doctor and the other a nurse.

The brother claims they were both healthy and happy.

I wonder if there was any mental illness.

I think they are going to have trouble accessing their digital devices.

This is a very strange story and TBH hard to wrap my head around. On the surface it makes no sense.

What else was going on that could have provoked this?

Bizarre.

From what I've read they didn't have parents alive.
Why would they book a return flight if they knew they weren't coming back too?
