Can I just stress I haven't seen anything that means a positive ID has been made on the body discovered, and it's still uncertain how it got to that point in the river? Unless anyone knows it is Nicola and has seen something I haven't? I hope it's not her. If it is, I'm afraid it being near still doesn't make PF wrong about the possibility of a third party as other cases show in the past that bodies can be deliberately hidden to allow people to get away. I'm reminded of Lindsey Rimer, who they didn't find for years. Also, it's been mentioned that the caravan park was visited today?

But the dog would have stayed where she fell in and it didn't.
It focused on being between the bench and the kissing gate.
Not the bench and the river.
I wonder if the dog stayed near the area where her scent was easiest for the dog to detect?
But, the dog stayed, and didn't seem to wander off. Dogs are so loyal.

I highly doubt a loving, caring and nice woman such as NB would have made that decision and taken the dog. It’s more often the case in those situations that strenuous efforts are made to ensure no harm comes to others. Often with a letter trying to give an explanation and apology.
jmo.
We’ll likely never how or why NB ended up in the river, but it’s worth pointing out a very high number of suicides are completely impulsive (I’ve seen different figures ranging from 48% - 70%) and fewer than half of all suicides leave notes (estimates vary but between 25%-30% seems generally accepted).

I won’t post links to everything but I know WS like to see the receipts so the figure of 25%-30% was published in

Gelder MG, Mayou RA, Geddes JR. Concise Oxford Textbook of Psychiatry 2005

and a fugure of 3%-42% is quoted here

The study on impulsivity that put it at 48% can be found here

Other studies are out there, but none of them paint the majority of suicides as well-planned and thought-through.

I always thought, and still do, that NB slipped and fell whilst trying to harness Willow. I am completely horrified at some of the crackpot theories currently doing the rounds on social media. <modsnip: rumor, no approved source> As for the sad discovery of a body today, which will probably turn out to be NB, it does seem kind of ironic that after three weeks of police divers, specialist searches, helicopter searches etc, that the body was found by two members of the public. IMO.

If a body is in reeds below the water, would it still float to the top?
If anyone wants an excellent - if rather academic - deep consideration of what happens to bodies in water and where they are likely to be found I recommend this lecture from Gresham College Oxford by Professor Carolyn Roberts. Bear with it. It is interesting. I think anyway IMO…

If we assume the body discovered is NB, given the data available, would it be possible to work out roughly where she would have entered the water using science avaialable?

Some people can't accept that accidents happen, or people do take their own life. Not everything is a vast conspiracy. Says a lot about those people making these claims up.

Parts of this case didn't add up for me initially. Terrible reporting and unfounded rumours helped fuel the theories.

I think it’s more likely that she jumped in - it would explain why there were no slip marks, none of her stuff found while she thrashed about trying to save herself, no marks on the bank where she tried to grip, no cry for help.
It would also explain why she went straight to the bottom - because she intentionally inhaled water.

Does anyone know if PF searched this bit of the river? He started below rne weir on the first day - does anyone know how far down it went.

If a body is in reeds below the water, would it still float to the top?
I am no expert but it sounds as though there has been a good influx of water in the last few days. Thinking she was indeed caught up in the reeds. Then dislodged. Thankfully, the walkers were there at the right time and saw her floating.
Incredibly sad but good for her loved ones.
MOO

Guess we may never know. I have always doubted that she would have followed up a work call by leaving Willow untied and then jumping in. The phone and harness left near the bench have always implied a sudden interruption to NB's routine to me. Rushing towards the dog for whatever reason. But who knows? It's all terribly sad.

Why oh why would sky news be texting with PA asking for thoughts at such an agonizing time.. there is just no justifying that level of low.
Madness isn't it?
I watched the same Sky reporter say on Sky NewsLive earlier as he read out the LP statement that everybody needed to consider the family's privacy right now.

The body was found on an unremarkable stretch of the river, just past a slight bend, a mile or so outside the village, close to where a tree had fallen on its side half in and half outside the water, with branches and undergrowth partially submerged.

I was thinking about where the body was when PF was searching. I suppose it is impossible to say. Just because it was found in reeds doesn’t mean it was in reeds before...but as PF said he couldn’t find it in reeds, yes I agree the likelihood is that it was stuck in reeds below the surface and was dislodged. MOO

I recall PF did mention not being able to search reeds but surely if visible from the river bank the body would have been from a boat?
I just hope the post Mortem doesn’t show third party involvement. The location to a road and the lay-by above the reeds does then start the cogs whirring. RIP and thoughts are with her family

This is disgusting for the Media to post.

These dog walkers are probably already distraught without having their images all over the press
