I can't argue with a Supreme Court Ruling, Wow, was I wrong or was I wrong?!!! Please forgive me for "bashing", being uneducated and being stupid enough to believe in the oath LE takes "To Protect and to Serve". My apologies!

Did anyone say you are stupid for believing that? I hope not.

I feel I need to chime in here with a personal experience. When I was a student at Temple University there was a "series of attacks/rapes" on every other week. This was not covered in the news and there was no media warning issued. However, there were alerts to all students online accounts, school newspapers and flyers around school at all campuses.

On the surface if you went back to search that time you would think LE did nothing. When in reality - the students were being warned and police presence on campus was increased but none of that was made public. For many reasons - one that was explained to me later seemed odd but apparently a significant percentage of attacks reported - after an initial attack is made public are found to be inaccurate.

IMHO - you can't blame LE for not warning the people so they would lock their doors. Seriously, my friend's 10 yr old son knows the door should always be locked. No media warning would have changed the awful events that happened to Brianna - first she didn't live there so probably would never had heard them. Secondly - every college freshman gets the "safety speech" in orientation. And my last point - this description has now been out there for weeks and no one has turned him in. If it went out weeks before Brianna's abduction would the result be any different? Not sure since my crystal ball is in the shop but odds aren't that great.

I don't count on LE to get to me soon enough to help much. Never have. A heads up would have been nice in this case though, wouldn't it?

Well said.

Funding and authority are not the same. All tax payors fund their expenses.

And I assumed all taxpayers expected to be "protected and served". LAPD sure needs to change their cars to read "To protect and to serve the DA's office".

Everyone would like a "heads up" before they are a victim of a crime. It is just not realistic.

Just because someone has the legal right to do something, doesn't always equate to it being right thing to do, IMO.

Wow, now you are expanding your scope to find support your stance.

Hello there Lew! I live outside Philadelphia and went to La Salle U. They would post crime reports in the student newspaper. One time there was this big expose about the campus not reporting rape cases, but I think that's unfortunately something that happens at many college campuses.

I am not. I grew up in L.A and saw that motto everyday for 27 years and obviously misunderstood it. It is misleading. Isn't that false advertising or something? lol.

I will say TU had a slight advantage - the campus cops at main campus are in fact Philly cops - not just campus security and we had more cops per sq. foot than the rest of Philly but that was still probably 1 cop on duty for every 200 students... not good odds for the cops to be very effective preventing anything from happening to anyone.

I am just estimating those odds - not sure what they really are!

You know, I've never exited a thread before and I am doing that now. There have been way too many personal attacks in the past few days. The mods always say "attack the post and not the poster".

SuziQ, I hope you don't think I am attacking you. I tried to express my thoughts on your posts.

Your comments about attacks should also be considered when referring to LE.

SuziQ, I hope you don't think I was attacking you, like I said sometimes I am misunderstood and I hope you don't leave. Since you are from LA you might remember the Hillside Strangler case in the 80's. I lived there then and it was on the evening news a lot so people had a lot of warning. He ended up killing a lot of women, I forget exactly how many. If you remember it was the citizens of LA that chased him down and caught him and held him until the police arrived. I wish the police could be everywhere but unfortunately they can't.

I have friends with daughters that go to UNR. They have an escort service that students can use any time, it has been there a while, not just since Brianna. The students know what is going on on their campus. But teenage brains do not think properly, (I know I have two) even if they are warned, they just don't think sometimes. No Brianna did not go to school there, but her friends did. And don't get me wrong, I am not blaming the victim. I am putting the blame on the that did this and hope and pray that he is caught and disposed of.

I have always tried to teach my daughters to be responsible for themselves. We usually end up with problems if we leave our safety up the others to protect us

I'm joinig you SuziQ. Even though I'm sure I won't be missed.

Time to move on with the discussion. If anyone is interested in discussing Brianna's case start a new thread. If you feel you must discuss the failings of local law enforcement and how it pertains to this case start a thread so those that care to discuss it can.
