Since Rebecca Koster disappeared, her parents have been receiving text messages from her phone. The messages gave the family false hope that their daughter might still be alive. The NY Post reports the first message said "Dan has me tied up in a basement somewhere in Commack." A second message said "Don't tell Dan, or he'll kill me."

Koster’s family told the New York Post that someone using a disposable cell phone with a Boston number called Koster on Dec. 4 at 4 a.m., about the time she disappeared. One call from the Hub number lasted 17 minutes.

yes, i agree. so far i guess the only thing that i can think of could be either someone is/was attempting to create an alibi or someone is just demented and must have been stalking her...the poor family i cant even imagine. everything i have read about rebecca including comments on the articles state that she was just a really nice person... but hanging around in taverns a lot and into the small hours of the morning can put anyone at risk. im not blaming the victim, she didnt deserve this, if someone had been stalking her they could have grabbed her at any time of day.i just think it is easier to snatch people when there is no one around to help them. i hope they figure out who she received the call from 400am till 417am...could the boyfriend really be innocent? i havent read enough to get a feel for that....

I'm thinking she never got into her home. One article I read stated that she was very inebriated at the last bar according to, I believe, a barmaid. Subsequently, IMO, it is unlikely that she ever returned to her home, and then was lured out after the unidentified Boston call. My gut is telling me that the Boston call into her cell was an attempt to establish an alibi. Also read that police believe the murder occurred in NY.

Angela Smith, who tended bar that Friday night at Butcher Boy, said Koster came in with her boyfriend at 3 a.m. on Dec. 4 and left about 20 minutes later.

"She came in intoxicated. They're only here for a little bit, and then her boyfriend took her out," Smith told The Post. "She was annihilated. She couldn't talk. She came from another bar."

The boyfriend, Dan Mayor, 28, "came in the next night, and he said [that] she was missing but [that] he had dropped her off at her house and walked her to her door," Smith said.

Yes. I have read about the proximity to Foxwoods. I suppose she could have continued on to the lure of a casino, but feel the description by the barmaid of RK's state is rather strong - "annihilated."

There are a few different ways to get to Foxwoods

1) Passenger Ferry, which i think we can rule out

2) Bridgeport/Pt Jefferson ferry - Pt Jeff is only about 20 mins from medford so this is very plausible, drive from ferry to foxwoods about 45min to an hour. Earliest departing ferry is 6am, latest is 10pm

3) Cross Sound ferry- earliest ferry 7am, latest 9pm iirc. About an hour drive from medford, ends up withing 10 miles of casino though

4) Driving the whole distance, probably about 2.5-3 hours each way, tolls at Throgs Neck. I doubt it.

In that position they would be much safer on the ferry because while the car is on the ferry they have almost no risk of getting in trouble and having the car searched. It eliminates 100+ miles of taking the chance of getting pulled over

I think that the killer/s prob took the first ferry over that morning in order to get rid of the body as quickly as possible. I'm reasonably sure the cameras would have shown something, and im reasonably sure it would be the BF

This one is bizarre and about as close to me as i really see these types of things happen (lil over an hour)

Prosecutors say to conceal Koster's identity, Ganthier cut off her fingers, toes, hair and a tattoo on her back, after stabbing her in the stomach. Three days after the 24-year-old went missing, her mother got a text message from Rebecca's phone: "Dan has me tied up in a basement. I think I'm in Commack." The family scrambled to her boyfriend Dan Mayor's home, but Rebecca wasn't there. Hours later, her mother got another text, "Don't tell Dan about my text message or he will kill me."

Thanks for asking the same questions. I'm waiting to see how this Evan guy met her. Were they acquaintances? Seems like he would almost have to have known her and the boyfriend to some extent, right? How else would he know to send those text msgs?

Unless he just saw the name Dan in her phone's address book and used it, not knowing Dan was her boyfriend.

If the murderer had her phone and was able to view her address book then most likely he viewed her messages too. Most likely he could tell by their context that Dan was her boyfriend. Sadistic *astard.

A Suffolk judge gave the maximum prison sentence to a Port Jefferson Station man, telling the defendant that his story of mutilating a Medford woman's body, dumping it in Connecticut and setting it on fire -- all because of her accidental death -- "makes no sense."

Although Evans Ganthier, 33, told police that Rebecca Koster, 24, died after tripping over dumbbells in his garage on Dec. 4, 2009, a jury convicted him of second-degree murder, finding that he stabbed her to death after meeting her hours earlier in a Holbrook bar.

State Supreme Court Justice Richard Ambro imposed a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
