Two firefighters were killed and 14 others were injured after a building that was on fire collapsed, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman told CNN.

The two firefighters died from injuries they suffered while fighting the blaze.

Four firefighters remain in critical condition, spokesman Larry Langford said.

G-d bless our first responders: all are heroes every day.

The below link has two videos. One shows the firefighters on the roof attempting to locate one more firefighter in the rubble. Originally 16 men were trapped or inside when the wall collapsed.

This was a vacant building and the firefighters were attempting to locate homeless who may be inside to stay out of the cold.

Bless these men and their families.

Two firefighters killed after building collapses

May they RIP and may the Lord comfort their families and fellow firefighters and heal the injured, especially with Christmas just around the corner, in Jesus' Name, amen.

The photos are so moving and so difficult to look at, especially the ones of Corey Ankum and Edward Stringer's colleagues saluting and escorting the ambulances carrying their bodies from the hospitals to the Cook County medical examiner's office, as well as the ones of their grief.

The photo gallery is here:

I don't know why this story has moved me so much; I'm not even from Chicago.

As an aside, the firefighters' deaths happened 100 years to the day after the famous Chicago Stockyard fires that killed 21 Chicago firefighters. Until 9/11, that was the greatest loss of firefighters in a single incident.

:( Prayers for the families and the city for their loss of these heroes. Sad day for our beloved city.

Our 2nd and 3rd fireffighters lost in the past several weeks.
Purple and black bunting is in almost every town and flags at half staff.
Very sad to see.

And apparently the number of firefighters injured in the Chicago fire today is 19, not 14. So very sad.
