This is an old article so I beg your patience with me. Even though I had missed it before, I just wanted to comment on this.

News organizations from CNN to Noticias have been camped here for days. Kimberly Overton, the sister of one of the first four victims, Amber Lynn Costello, slipped just days before into a similar gathering area for police and media in an Oak Beach parking lot and tried to sneak on a media bus that was scheduled to drive through the crime scene.

Police organize a tour bus to the burial site for press and other LE but they don't allow the family to go? How freakin insensitive can you be to family?

Our brains are extremely well-designed for associating and dealing with patterns we encounter in every day life for a number of reasons. The least of which, if we were to attempt to try to consciously process every single thing that occurs around us, to include people we may encounter, throughout the day, we would no have time (or energy, for that matter) to do anything else. Moreover, by unconsciously categorizing our environment (ala patterns), people and/or events that deviate will draw our attention, possibly alerting us to danger. Otherwise put, killers simply do not "stand out in a crowd." Now, factor in these women's lifestyles, which, among other things, involved regular interaction with strangers, to include rather extensive travel? Otherwise put, it is not the least bit surprising there is no real information wrt witness accounts.

You misunderstood my point. I am aware that in fact, it is impossible to internalize and acknowledge and process every face we see on a daily basis, specifically taking into account the women's lifestyles. And certainly killers do not stand out in a crowd, either through behavior patterns and interactions or simply by looks. However, my point, although quite obvious at this point, is that this Sk knows the game. He knows all the ins and outs of prostitution and the world of escorts. He knows precisely how to get a girl to leave her hotel and into his car without anyone seeing him, either witness or hotel security cameras. He is acutely aware of cameras and witnesses, and formulates his plans accordingly.

Oak Beach is the ONLY community on Ocean Parkway that is on the south side of Ocean Parkway. The rest, Captree Island, Gilgo, West Gilgo and Oak Island are all on the north side of the parkway. Hemlock Cove is also on the north side of the parkway on the Great South Bay.

Here is a little history about the homes in this area. Originally they were where the Jones Beach Theater is, on Zach's Bay. The state decided to move the homes to their present location. This was around 1940. It was also at the request of Robert Moses.
Though you "own" the land, you really don't, NY State owns it and you lease it in 50 year increments. You own your house. I'm sure the State has many rights to all the properties here.

There was talk that they were going to go into the Bird Sanctuary area...does anyone know if they did? Did they dive Guggenheim Pond?

I hope they will now put a Police Annex and camera's along this desolate stretch now. That would be the right thing to do.

Everyone has such incredible sleuthing skills!

Just going off memory here, but I believe they did search inside the bird sanctuary. FBI high imaging planes spotted something un-natural to the terrain, and LE searched those specific areas. I seem to recall searchers recovering objects from this site, but never heard anything else about it. Mind you, take all that with a grain of salt...I could be confusing this with another search site.

Don't recall any mention of divers going into Gugenheim Pond.

Hi ItalinBella27,

Speaking of this sanctuary, what are Park Rangers called in NY? (If they are "Park Rangers" I'm really gonna be embarassed haha). TIA

NY has "Forest Rangers" and "Park Police". I'm not sure what the difference is. Truthfully all of the cars I recall seeing at the local parks say Park Police not Ranger.

The other thing with the motel is that he would've had to carry each body out of the room and into his car.....maybe he could do it in the darkness and not be seen by anyone, but for me, it is very doubtful he would take that risk. He's too careful and planned and minimizes his risks, imo

Maybe he doesn't use his home or a motel. Could he take them to a secluded spot or abandoned building?

Curious: I believe they are called park rangers or park police. Don't feel bad, I'm not sure myself.

As do most johns who pay that sort of money. Imo, you're giving this guy far too much credit for what happens to be part and parcel of that particular world (i.e., not being seen = not getting busted by LE).

Mine doesn't if I'm calling from my cell. I just push a button and get my messages. AT&T. If I want to dial it from another phone, I'd need a PIN.

I have always had verizon...so we need to know what type of phone sevice she had

Stillwatersc: I was thinking the same thing. Robert Moses State Park has multiple bath houses. They are all at the different fields. I hope LE doesn't disregard this area, as it is secluded. I'm sure they are faced with the dilemma, "where do we draw the line?" Oak Beach is the closest to Robert Moses.

maybe its a sprint thing? the 2 sprint phones i have had over the last 5 years were this way. I only needed pin when accessing my VM from any phone other than my sprint handset.

I have never had a phone that you did not need the pin # for vm.

You need a pin for my phone, but I have it set to automatically enter the pin when I check my VM.. And if you have google voice for your VM its even easier to check the messages.

I have had AT&T for 10 years and every phone I have had with them, I didn't need to enter my pin when calling from my own phone.

I had AT&T for years up until a year ago and I always needed a pin. Maybe it has to do with the model or maybe there is a way you can set it so you don't need a pin.

That's what scares me, the fact they only found the other bodies cause they were doing a training exercise, 7-8 months later after SG went missing! Just looking at the map of LI's south shore freaks me out now. BUT, Ocean Parkway is very desolate at night and is accessible from both east and west sides of the island. Robert Moses Beaches are only accessible via Robert Moses Bridge.

:waitasec:

Are the bathhouses open year-round or only during certain times of the year?
