This critter isn't an ant, but he resembles one.
For about a week each year in May, the Formosan termites swarm in and around New Orleans. They come out just after sunset covering streetlights and porchlights as they search for fertile territory to establish new colonies. Last night, I was in the backyard just as they were coming out. When I walked in the house, a whole bunch of them flew in the backdoor. I was heating something in the oven for dinner, so we turned off every light in the house except the one in the range hood. Sure enough, they all flocked to the light and died on top of my stove. Pretty gross, but it did the trick.
