GUILTY FL - Kaylynn 'Bella' Broshears, 2, dies of oxycodone OD, Brooksville, 30 Jan 2011

I think there is more to this story than she is saying, imo. But this is sad.

Oxycodone is percoset .
I have had to take this because of my knee surgeries . My boys are all in their 20's and I kept mine locked up in a cabinet . So if you have a 2 year old how freakin hard is it to put it up high so your baby doesn't get ahold of it ??

I agree with you JBounds..something isn't right here . Has been bugging me all day .
I could understand it better if she said the baby found the bottle in her purse and broke it or it wasn't all the way closed or something ..but to leave it out on a dresser?
I just got mine refilled today and I am so careful . If I had a little one I would be even more careful so either she is totally negligent or she was drugging her ..either one is horrile .

I just watched JVM and she talked to this girls att. on the phone . She kept asking him if she had a script for this drug and he wouldn;t answer at first and finally he said No . So who knows how much this poor little baby injested .

hmmm...I always wondered how a 2 year old would eat a pill (or was it liquid). I couldn't get anything down my sons neck that didn't taste like candy. If he had to have antibiotics, I swear he'd spit them out unless it was cherry or bubblegum flavored. How does a 2 year old take enough to chew and swallow it without going blech, blech, blech, and spitting it out?

Did the mother give it to the toddler intentionally?

At 4 p.m. that warm Sunday afternoon in late January, Broshears dropped his 2-year-old daughter off in Spring Hill with her mother, Tiffany Lynn Mitchell. The 26-year-old, said then-boyfriend Joe Albarella, had recently gotten an oxycodone dose from a family member. She didn't have a prescription for the pill. Far from being an addict or a hard partier, Albarella said, Mitchell didn't want to take the entire tablet. She tried to cut it in half, but couldn't. So, frustrated, she left the oxycodone on her nightstand and stepped into the shower.

Rest in peace angel

Geez,

I think of little Haleigh Cummings just hearing about the oxycodone, which put Ron & Misty and their "friends/family" in jail.

It really saddens me, that parents can just disregard the welfare of their own children, in order for them to keep up with their drug addictions. It's such a sad way for this toddler that died from Oxycodone.

I pray for Haleigh's soul every night, and I pray now for this little baby toddler's soul as well.

She couldn't cut it in half? What was she using, a cotton swab? If I don't have a cutter handy (or a knife), I just bite my pill, then put the other 1/2 away (from hands of little children). I just can't believe this.

When she came out of the shower she didn't notice the pill missing? Mothers know they shouldn't leave pills around unattended children. That's just common sense.

This had to be oxycontin. Unless mom took a few prior I'm going to say she wasn't at addict status yet or she'd have just took the thing. I doubt it was a percocet or she could have very easily cut it in half or just took the whole thing as I can't see anyone needing to cut a percocet in half.

Also if she's telling half a truth an addict isn't going to leave any pill just laying around. They'd keep it on their person or definately put it where nobody could get to it because they need it.

What the heck was a 2 year old doing having run of the place while the woman was in the shower? If the little one hadn't eaten medication that killed her she could have set a fire or swallowed poison or fell and hit her head. Neglect.

Lovejac, that article speaks volumes.

Tax return, casino, a few drinks and pills from someone elses script.

Also the boyfriend claims she was not an addict as she has kept a job for four years. In his theory no addict can keep a job for four years.

Mom calls BS on the charges. Her words. I call BS on that addict theory, and keeping a job. The only time there's a problem is when the addict don't have their drugs or alcolohol. Otherwise model employees to be found.

hmmm mom had a past (indicents?run-ins) w/ the local child services??? i know of some addicts that DO keep a job for year or longer...aside from an occasional sick day here and there, pretty much "functioning" addicts...sad story, poor little girl
i thought oxycodone was a generic lorotab? i think its what my mom had for her knee surgeries...

Vicodin is hyrdocodone, Percocet is oxycodone, and I don't know about the others. I had a problem for over a year and a half (Rx'ed for multiple chronic pain issues - all issues I'd be born with that didn't become a problem until older. I took up to 10 a day. I'm not kidding. Probably more!) and actually functioned "better" (I know...weird...it made me more outgoing and friendly and no pain issues) in a very high stress job.

I ended up throwing about 50 away and taking myself to rehab because I was so thin/depressed/etc. Didnt take anything to come off, just let myself withdraw. Had to have them RXed this week for a minor surgical procedure and was hesitant to even touch them again...told Dr. I'd had a problem and she wrote for 10 pills, saying I'd have a hard time without them (true, but only had to take one day!). She didn't "push them", but I decided she was right - I was barely walking so I agreed. The rest are sitting proudly in my bottle. And EW are they bitter - I'd forgotten. I don't like the feeling anymore, either. I find it hard to believe someone without a drug history would just take an oxycodone casually and not think anything of it. I think she'd prob. been buying from someone who had extra or wanted some cash. Can they do a hair test to see what her history with them has been?

So, so sad.

From November 2013:

"There is absolutely nothing I can do to you today that would punish you any worse than you very likely punish yourself," Tatti told Mitchell, "but your daughter's life came to an end because of a decision you made for yourself, not her."

A moment later at Monday's hearing, Tatti sentenced Mitchell to 30 months in state prison...

The punishment was far less than the 13 years Tatti could have given Mitchell, who pleaded guilty last month to aggravated manslaughter of a child.
