Over 20 years ago in December 1979 investigators came across a Chevrolet van parked alongside Hwy 866 about ½ mile north of University Blvd. Inside they discovered the body of Sue Brooks Powell. This mother of 5 children had been shot to death.

Sandra Degrasse, 15 - Missing December 18, 1979 from the East end of Galveston. Her skull was found on August 10, 1980, after high tides associated with a nearby hurricane unearthed her remains on the west end of the island.

Sandra was last seen on December 18, 1979 in the vicinity of 8th and Seawall

Keith Blair Smith was accused of the murder of Miss Degrasse.

Went to the mall in Fort Worth, December 1974 and never came back..............a letter was received some time after from Rachel stating they were "getting away for a while" and would be back in a week. They never re-appeared. According to the letter they had gone to Houston

You're right. The doe has dental records so she has teeth. The Missing woman has false teeth.

I didn't notice the Doe is listed in our 2000 thread. I know this gets confusing but try to put them in the decade thread so others will see it too.

Not a big deal but it helps if anyone else "happens" to be looking at the same victim.

We really appreciate your enthusiasm and you have a great eye for detail. I can imagine you will locate more than a few in time!

Did you notice the timeline for the 1970's. posted above. I found it interesting that not a single girl went missing on a Saturday..........
Any thoughts about that?

Sharon Shaw and Rhonda Johnson, both 14, had come from Webster to Galveston in summer 1971 to surf. The pair was last seen alive Aug. 4, 1971,

In early 1972, police found the girls’ skulls in Turner Bayou, a month apart. However, months earlier, in the same area, a torso had turned up. Police ascribed the remains as belonging to Phillip Manning, a 13-year-old boy from Pasadena who had gone missing weeks earlier.

A few months ago, police learned that Manning, now 49, was alive and well. At 13, he had left home with a trucker, who had offered to make him an apprentice, of sorts. However, months later, Manning abandoned the truck driver, who was abusive.

Suntanned and skinny, 14-year-olds Rhonda Renee Johnson and her best friend, Sharon Shaw, vanished from Galveston in 1971 in what some now suspect was part of a serial killer's murderous spree.

A few months later, two more surfer girls, just 15, disappeared after catching a ride in Galveston near Stewart Beach.

She may have walked down 39th St or taken the Seawall route. A parade was
on the Seawall. Her skeletal remains were found in Alta Loma, TX on 3/25/1979.

Several types of vehicles were seen. A truck, jeep, van with lettering
& a station wagon.

I would like to hear from the man in Dickinson that knows the person who did this crime.
You have children the same age of when Suzie was murdered & you made a call to her family.
You also gave the initials "FS" or "GS" of the person that committed this murder. Please contact me.

Henry Lee Lucas confessed to this crime but I do not believe he is her killer.
Edward Bell name have also came up.

Suzanne Bowers – 12 years old. May 21, 1977 disappeared from Galveston - Medical Examiner said Bower's dental chart matched that of a skeleton found Sunday 03/25/1979 in a field near Avenue P1/2 in Alta Loma. The Galveston girl disappeared May 21, 1977 while walking from her grandmother's home in the 4000 block of Avenue S1/2 to her own residence in the 3100 block of Avenue P. Authorities Tuesday said the cause of death is still unknown. "She had a skull fracture. The cause of death has not been determined.

It was about 10:30 a.m. May 21, 1977 when the seventh grade Lovenberg School student left her grandmother's house, Mrs. Bowers recalls. "She was going home first to get her bathing suit. She wanted to go to the beach. Suzanne walked that same route many times. She never did reach home," said Mrs. Bowers. "The case has been turned over to them because it originated in Galveston. There are no suspects. There appeared to be gunshot holes in her skull."

These circumstances remind me of the abduction of Rhonda Johnson and Sharon Shaw, just 6 years earlier, also abducted in Galveston, and their bodies found in Harris County.
