MI MI - Jessica Heeringa, 25, Norton Shores, 26 April 2013 #3

Norton Shores and surrounding area is on edge, and media along with social media is ramping up.

We should write a reference guide for the early stages of cases like these, oh man, how many times do we see this pattern at WS?

Time for a presser LE, let's go, take control here, make a statement, and get the well meaning folks in the right direction. They appear completely overwhelmed at the moment.

Every second counts.

Don't remember this being mentioned:

"Sources confirm back in January, three to four men used a stolen credit card to purchase numerous lotto tickets at several stores in Grand Haven and Coopersville. They then tried to return the winning tickets to a number of other stores around West Michigan, including the Exxon in Norton Shores while Heeringa was working as the clerk."

LE released this for a reason

Our sources confirm the description of this face, now tied to Jessica Heeringa's mysterious disappearance, was compared to surveillance video of the suspects who tried to redeem numerous winning lotto tickets at multiple stores in West Michigan.

“They just released a sketch of that guy and boy we hope it triggers somebody’s memory,” Heeringa’s grandmother Diane Homrich says.

At this point our sources say this image doesn't appear to match any of the suspects from January's fraud ring, but they're quick to say a connection has not been ruled out

Our sources say none of the suspects Heeringa was working with police to identify have been arrested or even named yet, creating yet another storyline for Heeringa's family, bringing more questions than answers.

We're told since it's still under investigation it may not be released right away, but in the meantime investigators are asking anyone with information on this lotto fraud to come forward to help identify and arrest the suspects, especially since it may be linked to Heeringa's disappearance.

This abduction has become too big for one police department. They need more resources. This could include more state and local police and the FBI if there is a possibility organized crime is involved.imo

It has been stated that a task force involving several departments are working on the case. Also, the FBI has been contacted and at the very least have made their resources available. It is unclear if the FBI is actively involved in the investigation at this time, though.

1. mistergwriter said they were looking in the field across from the station this weekend, but I do not know if he saw canines. Good question for him. I also haven't heard either way about dogs at the Exxon station.

2. Hard to speculate on homeless people but Norton Shores is generally pretty middle class. There is no homeless shelter or mission or anything like that. And no downtown. The city of Muskegon has a homeless shelter.

3. The gym is 24 hour with a key pass, which means it is staffed during the day and possibly some evening hours, but members can use their key pass to get into the building 24/7. So it is never closed, per say.

Yes. There was a Michigan State Trooper and K9 searching the field last weekend. I believe that was on Sunday afternoon.

If theyve finally brought in canines doesn't that mean theyve narrowed down a possible area?

If so, probably not good news. Yet if they had received info from the POI they interviewed last night, surely he would not have been released.

As for ground search efforts, Shaw said his officers had searched the half-mile radius around the Exxon Mobile station, but outside of that, they didn't have any leads on a specific area to search.

Conducting ground searches further out was a difficult process, according to Shaw, because police had to obtain permission to search private property or draw up search warrants.

NW Norton Shores...that could be Lake MI and it could also be the area where the RSO across from Lincoln Park elementary lives. I don't think you can get anymore NW in Norton Shores than there.

It would appear that this POI has some information. Why else would he be questioned again? The question is was he involved or does he have some second hand knowledge? If they released him after questioning yesterday, I would lean towards him not being involved. Hopefully he isn't providing false information.
