Closing arguments- thread #175

If the defense believes that JA returned it to another Walmart then why, pray tell, did they not get proof from that store that JA did, in fact, return it and get cash? Such filthy lies.

I'm just getting caught up after being away for several hours. IIRC, the DT was completely flabbergasted  by JM's introduction of the evidence pertaining to the gas cans. I remember Jodi's retort during testimony - she who thinks quickly in any situation - when she responded that she returned the gas can to the same store and got cash in return.

The evidence is there, and I don't know what Nurmi was trying to prove yesterday when he suggested more than once that the gas can return was not entered into evidence during the trial  Juan will be able to refute Nurmi's closing argument by replaying Jodi's testimony or having it read back from the transcript. :moo:

OK...Juan did this MUCH better! (well, we know he does everything better...but I digress!)

Going over the jury instructions at the END was MUCH more effective than doing it in the middle of this ramble!

Nurmi has no emotional undercurrent, no indignation, no sense of outrage. He has no emotion for his defense, and Juan has soooo much.

Here we go with faux domestic violence.

Actually, this was one of Nurmi's smarter moves.

He KNOWS his client is not likeable at all. The jury questions have made it abundantly clear they cannot stand her. By saying up front that he (Nurmi) doesn't like her either, he is telling them "Hey, I get ya. I'm right there with ya. BUT....there is this thing called the 'law' and it doesn't matter if any of us 'like' her. You still have to follow the law."

He is saying it is okay..just fine not to like her but please be advised that you still have to follow the law.

I understand but why would he say he doesn't like her? Shouldn't he be pretending she's the pure shocked religious girl who was a victim of abuse who only killed in self defense?

why did Nurmi say "it doesn't matter about the sexual orientation of the witness". I must have really missed something here.

I believe that was his subtle way of hinting that Travis was a pedo - and his sexual orientation was to children.

If I can tear this defense apart JUAN is going to trash it. I can't wait. This whole thing is ridiculous and almost embarrassing to watch.

Nurmi is throwing every little bit of nothing he has at the jury and praying something, no matter how erroneous, sticks. He knows he can't get her acquitted, but he is hoping even one person will hang the jury. Or vote manslaughter. He is trying to exploit those few seconds between the last pictures of Travis alive and the first photos of him dead. He wants to manufacture doubt.

Why didn't she kill Travis in bed? Much too difficult to eliminate DNA.

Why did she steal the .25 caliber? Accessible and concealable. Plus there was ammo.

The whys are all easily answered.

Heard that Juror #8 escorted out...chatting up with JVM? TRUE????FALSE?

There is no way I can believe that anyone on the jury will go for self defense after hearing this. First, JA is not reasonable, second, none of the violent attacks that she supposedly suffered have been corroborated with independent evidence. He just lost the case for her. I have lost all doubt about the verdict now.

I'm just wondering but do you think the hole in Jodi's lips causes her to whistle while she breathes? Just wondering

Poor widdle Jodi, all dressed in black and looking sooooo sad and oh so innocent and unfairly targeted for no reason at ALL! Oh PUH-LEEZE! She looks like she's at a funeral. In a way, she is.

I just got back from the store and all I hear from Nurmi in a high pitched voice over and over "It doesn't make sense!". Life often doesn't, Mr. Nurmi.
