Soren died at 5 years old on March 5, 2013.
Soren was covered in bruises head to toe.
She had a broken collarbone healing.

Soren died of blunt force trauma to the head.
It is believed he also tried to drown her.

Soren's Mom has since married the man who beat her to death.

And early Tuesday, police say, Soren, who just turned 5 in January, was beaten to death at her home on Craig Farm Road, which she shared with her mother and her mother’s boyfriend, Phillip Bryan Gleason, 27.

Despite a grandmother’s plea that “a tiny little girl had no chance to fight off a monster,” a judge set a $150,000 bond Friday for the wounded Iraq War veteran accused of beating his girlfriend’s daughter to death outside Lancaster earlier this month.

Yet for the first time, the lawyer for accused child killer Phillip Gleason offered a defense in the case, saying that shaken baby cases are “junk science” and Soren Chilson’s death from brain injuries is consistent with choking after a seizure.

The man accused in the death of a 5-year-old Lancaster County girl has posted bond.

Phillip Gleason, 27, was released from the Lancaster County Detention Center on Monday after making bail.

“She was the light of his life,” Chilson-Cole said. “She idolized her daddy.”

The last time Chilson-Cole saw her niece was in November, when the family spent Veterans Day in a park in Columbia.

He went into respiratory distress (from taking something) and the people with him did not call for help.

Some of them probably don't sleep too well at night. However, if there was no defense lawyer, the defendant couldn't be tried, would walk free automatically and the criminal justice system would cease to function. So its not just that the defendant has a right to representation, society has a right to see justice done too.

As for the mother marrying the accused, I can't find any words that aren't rude so I'll just say nothing at all. :banghead:

Soren's family has posted on the facebook to say that people are still fighting for justice.
We all know here that justice can take time. Yes, it may be a year or two until it goes to trial.
But Soren's family wants to assure everyone that "those responsible" for Soren's death will pay.

Absolutely heartbreaking. Such a precious little girl, I can't imagine how someone could hurt her. There's such a presence about her, you can tell she's the kind of child that just drew everybody in.

I have no words for the man who did this, or the woman who gave birth to her (because there's no way I can call her a 'mother'). I just hope that justice is served for little Soren and her daddy.

Denial might have escorted Mommy up to the door, but she actually walked through it... and why, exactly? With Loverboy charged, how can Mommy NOT take advantage of the opportunity to point a finger at the man who took her baby? Is she in fear for her own life at this point, perhaps?

I'm a FIRM believer in "Judge not," as none of us on the outside can ever know the WHOLE story... but situations like this are becoming an epidemic and unfortunately at this point all too predictable...

I'll stop now before I rant. Anything else I say belongs in the Jury Room or Parking Lot... if I don't want TO or to be banned, that is.

It is sociopathic. My brother has outright abandoned his daughters to move in with his bipolar girlfriend. My parents, in their late 70s are raising the 7th grader and 10th grader. It is about control of the person, persons, and the sadistic way they are pulled in. It is so difficult to blame one or the other, because they are all at fault on enabling.

My own parents are slaves, because if they don't do what my brothers says, he threatens to move the girls with him, which would not be healthy.

Bullies are just not in school, they are everywhere. Until we have a voice to stand up for children before a crime, this will continue.

Deputies have blamed her death on her mother’s boyfriend, Phillip Bryan Gleason, a former Winthrop University student and Iraq War veteran who was wounded in action. He’s been charged with homicide by child abuse, a felony that carries up to 20 years in prison...

The girl’s injuries are consistent with wounds that can be found from a variety of other conditions, [defence lawyer] Wellborn said. He debunks theories about shaken baby syndrome, which has been controversial in the courts and questioned by scientists over its validity as an explanation for a child’s death.

During a hearing last April, Gleason was released on a $150,000 bond. Since then, “he’s in and out of the hospital,” Wellborn said. “He’s undergoing a lot of medical care. He was injured in a severe attack while he served in Iraq.”
No court dates have been set yet, said Sixth Circuit Solicitor Doug Barfield. He would not comment about any possible pending DNA tests, but said work is still being done on the case.
