Family urge police to launch homicide investigation into Nadine Haag's death after coroner's open finding

The family of a woman found dead in her Sydney apartment almost four years ago are calling for a full homicide investigation into her death following a coroner's recent open finding.

Nadine Haag's body was found at her Castle Hill apartment in December 2009. Her wrist had been slashed and there was a razor blade, pills and a note near her body.

Before her death in December 2009, Nadine Haag wrote vividly in her diaries about the spiralling conflict with her de facto, Nestore Guizzon, the father of her two-year-old child.

In the diary excerpts submitted as evidence to Nadine's inquest, she writes of her fear of Nestore Guizzon, of the warnings his sister gave her about his behaviour and fears that his family's “cycle of violence” could envelop Nadine and her daughter.

Disturbingly, police had missed a secret message hidden under the ‘suicide note’ that read, “He did it”. They also missed the same message scratched into the bathroom wall tile with pen. Dissatisfied with police findings, her distraught family are now awaiting the findings of an inquest to discover the truth about what happened to vivacious Nadine. Did she commit suicide, or was she murdered?

sound like LE in NSW don't want the headache of properly investigating this woman's death,i wonder who retained custody of the little one.
 
What a smug piece of work Nastore Guizzon is! Guilty as sin I say. I hope that a full homicide investigation will finally reveal the truth of what happened to Nadine and give her family some closure.

So many times this has happened where a supposed suicide is in fact a murder and it makes me extremely angry. Irrespective of the supposed cause of death, a full forensic investigation should be conducted and more especially where it seems to be a suicide. No detailed forensic evidence was collected from Nadine's apartment when her body was found. Crucial evidence has now been lost forever.

I have full admiration for Nadine's family in not giving up their quest for the truth and I hope that truth is revealed soon.

Thanks for the link Flinders. What the sister has to say is quite feasible but it could also be that she is frightened or has been threatened by her brother. If he has a violent nature as has been mentioned, the sister would be very wary of bringing this to the fore wouldn't she?

The fact that she put Nadine in contact with a psychologist, actually making the appointment for her and driving her to that appointment the next day speaks volumes to me. The sister knew exactly what her brother was capable of. She did cover herself nicely though in the article by saying that Nadine was upset and confused because she (the sister) was not prepared to get involved by giving Nadine advice. Imagine Nestore Guizzon's reaction if he knew that his sister actually believed Nadine and was willing to help her?

Just as an aside, since when do you get to see any type of specialist the day after you make the appointment? Maybe business was slow for this particular psychologist.

My gut is still telling me that this bloke is a bully, a narcissist and is guilty of murdering Nadine.

Several years ago, Dane and Sue were privileged to train and teach with Nadine Haag. Nadine had all the makings of a great teacher - she was calm and gentle and patient, she was an instinctive coach and mentor, she genuinely cared about her students' learning and happiness, she always took the time to understand people within their own contexts, and she
loved
to dance.
The only thing that had the potential to stand in Nadine's way was that she struggled to progress her own dancing... but Nadine was not a quitter. She worked and worked and worked at it. She practiced relentlessly, she took criticism gratefully, she tried again and again with the cheerful patience and determination that were her nature. And by the end of one year she had exceeded everyone's expectations and become a truly beautiful dancer.
A few years later, Nadine died aged 33. The world lost a beautiful person and a wonderful teacher. We want to make sure Nadine is remembered - remembered for her noblest qualities, and remembered as a dancer. So each Gala Ball we will present the Nadine Haag Memorial Award for Hard-Earned Improvement.
This very special award will go to a student who has improved beyond our expectations by hard work and determination. It's not a prize for dancing difficult steps, nor for a showy performance, it's not even a prize for being an excellent dancer. It's to congratulate someone on working harder than most to become better than we thought they could, just as Nadine did.
Special thanks to Nadine's family for so enthusiastically agreeing to let us establish this award, and especially for coming to our first Gala Ball to present it for us.

Family plea for answers over death of former Dunedin woman Nadine Haag

Nadine Haag's wrist was slashed, and a note was left at the scene of her death, with the words "he did it" scrawled behind it.
Seven years on, the Haag family just want to know what happened to their beloved Nadine.
The body of former Dunedin woman Nadine Haag, 33, was found in the shower of her Castle Hill flat in Sydney, Australia, on December 4, 2009.
Police concluded the mother-of-one committed suicide, but that conclusion sparked her siblings to embark upon an extraordinary investigation of their own.

That investigation led to the Coroner overturning the police ruling and instead declaring an open finding in an August 2013 decision.
But that is not the end of the matter for Haag's family.

Her sister, Tasia Haag, speaking to Stuff while in New Zealand, said the family was still determined to find out how their beloved sister and daughter died.
"We still strongly believe that Nadine died at the hands of another, or the result of foul play.
"If someone does know about it, if they do know anything, be it [about] a family member or friend or colleague, [we ask] that they come forward."
Tasia Haag said the family had not heard from police since the coronial finding.
"We don't know what they are doing, but as a family we want to help them in whatever way possible," she said.
New South Wales Police have not yet responded to media questions about the case.

​NADINE'S DEATH AND THE FAMILY'S INVESTIGATION

Nadine Haag's left wrist was slashed and a note in her own handwriting was left at the scene.
However, Tasia, her other sisters Cherie and Chantal and brother Marcel did not accept the police's ruling that her death was a suicide.
Instead the family started a private investigation that ultimately forced a coronial inquest.
That included recreating the crime scene, talking with neighbours and providing details of Nadine's allegedly volatile relationship with her former partner, Nestore Guizzon.
A dress she may have been wearing on the day of her death has never been found.
And crucially the siblings found a message written behind Nadine's suicide note saying, "He did it".
The words "He did it" were also found etched on a tile in the bathroom by the new residents of Nadine's former apartment.
Guizzon denied having anything do with her death.
On the day of her death Nadine was to attend an appointment with a lawyer about plans to return with her young daughter to her family in Queensland.
Deputy state coroner Paul MacMahon said in his findings that Guizzon's actions "raised considerable suspicion" that her death may have been a homicide.
While there was no evidence placing her former partner near her apartment, he had motive to harm her, the opportunity to do so and "lied about his whereabouts", the coroner noted.
Phone records placed him in the Castle Hill area for most of the day, and into into the evening, despite Nadine's former partner saying he was home all day; some 30 kilometres away from her apartment.
However, there was no evidence that placed Guizzon in Haag's apartment at any relevant time.
"On the one hand, at the time of her death there was nothing to suggest that she would act to end her life, whilst on the other hand, on the evidence available there are serious difficulties in characterising her death as a homicide," MacMahon noted.
After the ruling the family's solicitor called on NSW police to conduct a full, comprehensive investigation. But the family are still waiting.

SEVEN YEARS ON

"I believe she died at the hands of somebody, I believe she didn't do it," Tasia Haag said.
"Someone always knows something.
"We want people to come out, it's seven years on and people might think it has blown over".
But for the Haag family, "it never stops".
"There are so many victims from this."
Haag said her family knew Nadine very well and talked to her in the days before her death.
Since her sister's death Haag continued to study and research crime scenes and was doing a course in forensic criminology.
"I want to help people in our situation. The fact there is no-one out there to tell you how to finalise a person's life at the end … it is horrific for a family member.
"The simple things in life aren't so simple."
 
I found an article that was an interview done with one of her sisters ....
9am the day of her death she had taken a video recording on her phone of her daughter , she had dropped her daughter off at Mr Guizzon's mothers. who had strapped her in properly which mad Nadine frustrated.

9.58am she went and got petrol goes to the gym

11am leaves the gym to return home. Mr Guizzson was due to drop of their daughter at 5pm.

Nadine had failed to show up.

police fail to find any DNA evidence, no surprises there.
police say she stumbled into the shower. 33 bruises were found on her which isn't consistent with stumbling. her shower was a meter squared.

certainly alerted me to the fact that it wasn't what've would been a suicide where an artery had been cut."

according to the Mr Luciphone records show he was new the area. he claims it doesn't prove anything.
the phone signal puts him 10-12 kms away from his house. he claims he was home all day, yet when asked about the mobile phone findings he says the following "
Because I don't remember what I was doing. It was another nondescript day, like I said before
"
then shortly after says this "Yeah, I remember being home all day because I remember specific things that I was doing that day. I remember contacting work, being contacted, etcetera."

his Albi states he was sending emails well into the afternoon, when checked ,the archives and when checked records dispute this.

NESTORE: You do understand..? Hold on. Just stop this. You do understand my communications background, don't you? You know how... do you know my background?

ROSS: I know that you work in IT, yeah.

NESTORE: Do you know how experienced I am in communications? Do you know if I wanted to bounce a signal out of Perth, I'm more than capable of doing that. If I wanted to forge a whole bunch of emails, I'm more than capable of doing that.
 
I know the guy... He was definitely a strange person. Showed a lot of aggression, had a temper. Seemed controlling.
Once heard a rumour that he had an affair with a workmate and there was suspicion of abuse.
Also he was involved with a Holly Wise who passed due to an overdose in a period after. His reaction at her funeral was to attack her character. Not a normal person. Did he do it, not sure but they never found his phone records as far as I know.
 
Her poor family, there is no way this was suicide, women in abusive relationships are most at risk in the period after they leave. Nadine was trying to escape this man and start a better life for her and her daughter. I hope justice is eventually served.

did you work with him? he had affair with two people at the work place? What did the girl have an overdose of? Sounds like a suspicious situation.
Poor family to have to deal with that.
 
I would rather not say too much on that front.
I am not sure what the OD was, I do not think it was associated in any way to him in that instance but just tragic.
