Dogs went north... When looking around and searching the area I saw a house for sale. Is this house still for sale? If vacant maybe that is where he took her first.

I am new and I feel this way too. Not one person has welcomed me or aknowleged me. But..I remind myself these are heavy hearted cases and emotions can run high (and rumors!) When a new story (for lack of better word) happens in a new town, I know a lot of new people show up. I am one, as every person posting here was at one time. There is a lot of explaining the rules and learning to agree to disagree. As well as suspicion of who you "really" are(you never know who is here lurking). So I overlook it and throw in my 2cents when I want to, lol I am hoping with post numbers and experience I will earn some friends. =-)

Awe! Let me give you a real big welcome then! I erase more then I type, then look back to the thread and someone posts what I was going to say. I just read read read and when I see someone didn't mention something I will then post it or answer questions. Glad to see all the new people and hope you all stay. :greetings: :welcome4:

He went to Starbucks at some point (static can't hear)

Police won't discuss order of events

In interviews with investigators with the Illinois State Police, Justin DeRyke said he had been in his bedroom playing video games for much of the night before leaving his room to go into the bathroom to masturbate and watch pornographic films. Upon leaving the bathroom, Long grabbed his arm to bring him downstairs to watch television and scratched DeRyke's arm, drawing blood.

DeRyke said he was angry at seeing blood and chased Long. She fled the house and ran to a brush pile. She fell into the pile and was impaled through the neck with a branch. DeRyke said Long was twitching and he "believed he had to put her out of her misery." DeRyke then slashed her throat and said he stabbed her multiple times, aiming for the heart before wrapping her body in garbage bags, sealing them with duct tape and dropping her body in a body of water south of Watson.

Kibler said the body was found by volunteers at around 7:30 p.m. Monday and a small hole in the bag revealed an elbow, with the size of the bags indicating the remains inside may be those of a child. The bags were not opened at the scene and were instead sent to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital for an autopsy.

The autopsy identified the body as Willow Long's and revealed multiple cuts, including a slash across her throat, two stab wounds across her chest bone, one which severed her subclavical vein and was the probable cause of death, and multiple cuts across her arms, indicating that there may have been a struggle.

With the evidence available, Judge Sherri L.T. Lungate ruled probable cause for three counts of first degree murder had been established and set DeRyke's bond at $5 million with the stipulation that he not return to the family's home in Watson, have contact with Ciara DeRyke or Nathan Grant and would not have contact with anyone under the age of 18. The sentencing for those charges range from 20 to 100 years in prison or could be ruled as a life sentence.

From the Effingham Daily Newspaper online.

Poor little girl, I knew she did not fall on a stick.

"we're not going to discuss the order in which evidence was discovered, not proper, but proabable cause statement is chronological as to why he needs to be detained, chron statement of evidence..."

3 more questions.

PC:You mention in the probable cause statement that the defendant had went an hour early to his workplace. Was that discovered later when the search was going on?

We are not going to discuss the order of events... of how evidence was discovered. The probably cause statement that was made in court was more chronological- based on the evidence we can prove today. not going to get into what we found, where we found it

Re: pile of wood

"I was not there when they walked around"

Where was it

"pile is pretty close to residence...I can';t tell you how far"

Omg... Masturbating and watching pornographic films. Someone needs to ASK if there was evidence of sexual assault. I haven't gone there until just now. I didn't want my mind to go there, but... Now I can't help it.

Yeah... I was on the fence about sexual assault. This pushed me over. I am hoping not. But it is obvious that she was attacked. To me, anyway. And where is the crime scene????

3 counts of murder? Who are the other 2 victims? Can only be charged with murder once with one victim. Right?

We have seen multiple counts in other cases, pertaining to one victim. Not sure if it has to do with the various methods used (stabbing and cutting, etc.) or something else but someone here will know.

I have such a stomach ache...Poor sweet girl...I'm just sick.

Sweet Willow...:rose:

:grouphug:

Dodged the question. Pretty much said the pathologist is great and he's sure he did a thorough job, and that is standard. No other comments on that.

Will NOT comment on rape!!! Only states confident doc did his job in investigation!!!!

Is the Probable cause statement what they reason with the facts they will use to try to prosecute or a collection of all the facts? It doesn't seem to include the issue about the stick. Also the brothers statement makes it seem like Saturday night. Also does he have a history of a temper because if Willow really ran out the door she must have been terrifed of him.

:seeya: I'm so sorry no one welcomed you cause I'm pretty sure I speak for many others that we are soooooo glad you're here. When these threads and posts get to flying they move so fast I overlook new members. That's why you'll see someone post a general "Welcome to all new members". We hope you'll stay and anyone else who has not had a welcome!

WELCOME TO WEBSLEUTHS!!!! WE ARE SO GLAD YOU ARE HERE!

I do not see any way that this little angel ran and stumbled and impaled herself with enough force to have a stick go through her head or even the softer tissues of her neck.

She only stood a few feet off of the ground, weighed only about 40lbs., and would have had to have been running with the speed of a bullet.

That stick would have needed to have been chiseled into a sharp point and been coming at her with tremendous force.

The grandfather must be devastated. I know he didn't want to believe his own son would do something so horrific to his own granddaughter.

This is just heartbreaking....

In thread 2 it was posted someone's son had this happen. My cousin by marriage had this happen as well-end result severe anoxic brain injury. It happens.

PC: Asking where pile of sticks was

The pile of sticks was pretty close to the residence

Did the autopsy have a rape kit/test?

Our forensic (Evansville) the state is very confident in him and that is all I am going to say regarding the examination at this time I am assuming that he is...highly regarded... That is all we are going to say at this time.

(HMM, well he didn't really say that Willow WASN'T Sexually assaulted)
