Hustler's Larry Flynt seeks to save his assailant from lethal injection

Larry Flynt wants to stop Missouri from executing the man whose bullet put the publisher of Hustler magazine in a wheelchair for life. Over the weekend, Flynt and the state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union filed suit to force the state to release documents on how the state determines the process by which it kills prisoners.

Joseph Paul Franklin, 63, is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection on Nov. 20. Missouri last month delayed the execution of convicted murderer Allen Nicklasson after the German manufacturer of the drug propofol objected to its use in the deadly mixture of drugs designed to execute inmates.

There is so much to dislike Larry Flynt for, and yet......I mean wow.

I am vehemently anti-DP, and I don't know that I would speak out to spare the life of my assailant. Good on Larry Flynt.

Can you clarify that? Are you saying you wouldn't object if YOU were the victim but if other people are the victim that is different?

Yes. I will clarify. Since I have never been the victim of a violent crime, I have never been asked to give an impact statement nor have I been asked my opinion on whether my non-existent shooter should receive death.

But if I had been shot and permanently disabled, and the crime happened in a DP state, I may express my views on the DP but I don't think I would have the moxy to file a suit with the ACLU. Maybe I am wrong, but I think being a victim of a crime like that would take a lot out of me and I can't imagine having the strength to do it.

You said you likely wouldn't likely "speak out" to save your assailant from the DP. Doesn't take much to speak out to the news media, not much effort would be required especially if one feels strongly that the DP is wrong.

What Flint experienced was horrible, no doubt about it but families that have had children tortured/raped/killed no doubt suffer even MORE and I can't fathom saying they should NOT be able to seek the DP because "it is wrong" while saying if I were the victim then maybe I would be fine with it.

The guy is a serial killer. He isn't on death row for shooting Flynt.

I am for the death penalty in cases like this.

Flynt has a right to his beliefs, but I don't think I would be trying to save this guy's life. :twocents:

Beth Karas did an amazing interview with Joseph Paul Franklin.
You can listen here at Wild About Trial

Nothing like a good morality lesson from Larry Flynt.

I remember seeing him and Rev. Jerry Falwell on Larry King. They were hilarious together - like a comedy team.:floorlaugh:

I doubt "families that have had children tortured/raped/killed" suffered MORE than someone who has actually had to live out the rest of his life paralyzed from the waist down because some random person decided to shoot him.

Maybe we can get the suffer-o-meter and get a measurement.

:facepalm::banghead::facepalm:

Maybe Flynt should have offered to trade places with him.

What was Larry doing on a show with Jerry Falwell? He suffered extreme pain for years due to damaged spinal nerves and his girlfriend became addicted to his pain meds. I think it's brave of him to speak up after all he's been through. He's had a long time to consider his stance on the death penalty.

<modsnip> Who knows what motivated larry flynt. For all we know, he was restored to grace.

On the other hand, he might have figured that life in prison was the best possible punishment vs the easier out that death offers. Only mr flynt knows his motivation.

So what if Larry doesn't believe in the DP

So what if Larry has been "saved"

Mr. Franklin is bye-bye and who knows, he may have been "saved" before the needle hit his arm

I say Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish! Glad he's not taking up any more air. This guy was an Anti-Semite and NeoNazi. He said Mein Kampf spoke to him. He murdered an innocent guy leaving a Bar Mitzvah!!!

No, I was answering her comment. What I meant was I wouldn't care if Flynt joined this guy, he's contributed tremendously to the *advertiser censored* problem in America.

*advertiser censored* problem?

I'm going to have to disagree that a serial murderer & a pornographer are essentially one in the same and deserve the same type of punishment (or that pornigraphers who create *advertiser censored* with consenting adults only in it, of course) deserve any type of punishment in our legal system.
