What I don't understand from that last news clip with his partner is - who is this mystery person who showed up to give him a ride, and how does the partner know that David didn't want to ride with him/her? Does he know the identity of this person or it's just speculation? Sounds very strange...
For some reason I've always had the feeling that the plane went on the northern route and landed somewhere. I find it very suspicious that they haven't released the other arcs for earlier satellite pings. The only reason they would want to keep that confidential is if it strongly indicated it...
Well everyone can rest easy, Courtney Love is now on the case.
I don't think we're allowed to post links to Facebook on here, but if you go to her page, she has posted a satellite photo that she scribbled on some arrows on, pointing out what she thinks is submerged wreckage and an oil slick...
It seems like a horrible "feature" if there is some way for the pilot to vent the pressurized cabin to the exterior atmosphere, but perhaps it would just be enough to fly for long enough at an altitude over the limit for it to depressurize on its own or simply not be able to keep up with the...

Meaning - if they chatted for 30 mins, then flew in silence for 3 hours, then chatted again for another 30 mins - why would they record the 3 hours silence, erasing the previous 30 mins of talking...
Got it. Thanks for the clarification. I didn't realize that the transponder was utilizing GPS technology. Clearly I've never been in a cockpit before. I only had seen a picture of the transponder unit in an article and it didn't look like the most modern device to my uninformed eyes.
By "we" I was speaking about "technologically capable human society" rather than the US.
** Edited thanks to 's explanation about the transponder using GPS in a previous post. **
Yeah, none of them make much sense to me.
Reasons I've seen stated are
Needs to be shut off in case of fire
Needs to be turned off on the ground to prevent needless/confusing broadcasting of info
The fire thing I can maybe see, but as for not having it transmitting while on the...
Actually they are talking about the engine monitoring system.
I work with computer networking; let's see if I can break down the terminology a bit.
The term "ping" is used in networking when a device sends a packet of data across a network so other devices know it's online and available to...
