It would have been a combination of an onshore wind component, tidal forces, and an eddy in the Gulf Stream current looping back just far enough into the nearshore waters. The island/sandbar where the discovery was made does stick out pretty far into the water as compared to it's surrounding...

The boat in the video is an Edgewater 318cc, which is 31 feet in length. It is considered a top of the line offshore fishing boat. The boat Austin and Perry were in was half the length and not anywhere close to the seaworthy capability of the EW-318 in the video...

Listen to the initial 911 call from the Father to Jupiter PD. He states several times they had not heard from the boys since they left with the boat to go fishing, and the boys took the boat offshore, out in the ocean. He actually had to correct the dispatcher with the location of the boys /...

The problem is, we don't know how far offshore they made it before the engine became disabled. We also don't know how far the boat drifted before it capsized. The currents in that area are strong so an exact (gps) location would be required.

The small islands are in the area of the northern Bahama's, about 90 miles east of Palm Beach County. The thought being somehow they made it to those islands. Unfortunately, the capsized boat being found off the coast of Volusia County FL (Ponce Inlet), strongly suggests the boys did not make it...

Heavy cloud cover would prohibit that at the time of the initial event. Followed by darkness overnight, the first visible satellite images would be Saturday Morning. If they have access to high resolution IR images of the area, the overnight images may contain something useful.

The search plan/grid is based on numerical models which predict where an object in the gulf stream will travel to over a given length of time. This assumes the boys, their boat, and the boys holding onto the cooler are in the water drifting with the current. The boys being submerged in the water...

That Carnival cruise ship is entering the southern edge of the search area now, and heading straight into the center of the active search area. If passengers are going to look , now is the time to do so.

There has been plenty of heavy rain each afternoon / evening over the Gulf Stream waters. The could easily collect a good amount of fresh rain water in the large cooler. I really wish they had stayed with the boat. Agree with Dr. Claude, keep searching.

Nothing found by Coast Guard on the initial report, unfortunately Tybee Island is about 100 miles west of where anything would be found. #BREAKING coast guard says 2 helicopters and a boat completed searches off Tybee Island finding no signs of any person or object. @CBS12
