I thought about the possibility that she was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia, hence the wigs and fake passports. What if mental illness lead her to believe that she was being targeted or followed? I don't know how difficult it would have been to get fake passports.

True. I thought that if they did leave his remains there maybe they would put up an unidentifying marker of some sort. An "in memory" with a death date or something.

I think I thought more about bringing her home in a metaphorical sense rather than a literal one. I wanted her to be identified, for her family to know, and for some sort of closure.
