France - 5 shot, 4 dead in French Alps, may have int'l ramifications, 2012 #2

The picture at the link I posted above is telling in a way.
Look at the tire marks in the half circle. It's as if the car was to the right pulled in the layaway and then something happened, it would seem that for the car to leave those marks it moved at a speed to displace the gravel to leave the imagine that is visible. It would seem that he backed the car to leave/escape ? and may have been gunned down before he could get the car out of reverse. (iirc) the car was running and in reverse with engine running. The cyclist body is laying on the ground as if he came upon the scene and approached the drivers side and was then shot (5) times ? in the back. I am not sure what to think since seeing the picture. I would like to know if any of the shots that the cyclist took ended up in the vehicle that would have given LE clues as to the direction the shots were fired from. jmo idk

Suspended from police for an abnormally high fuel consumption, leading to suspicions he had bought gas for personal use. Resigned, not sacked. His private security work at concerts and sport events meant he was still licensed to own a gun.

There was a press conference an hour and half ago at Annecy's Palais de Justice by the prosecutor, I think this says, but I haven't found it yet. That's due to my rubbish French, I'm sure.

His house seems very small and ordinary in the picture so I can't imagine it cost a lot.

From Elley Mae's article:
A second man was arrested. The unnamed suspect, a friend of former policeman Eric Devouassoux arrested this morning, had tried to escape when police arrived at his house which, according to officials, was full of ‘munitions, detonators and arms’.

Well now there are 2 someone will talk....

In the Mail article it mentions how Eric had shown signs of racism and aggressiveness towards tourists as a policeman, but 'never violence'.

People seem to be discussing that in the comments to the French article I linked too.

From Daily Mail article "Both suspects were described by Annecy prosecutor Eric Maillaud as suspected ‘arms traffickers’ with a 'particular interest in weapons from the Second World War". So were the Al -Halli family just in the wrong place at wrong time? Seen or heard something they weren't supposed to? But since it's local guys and 1 of the other victims was local as well was he the target? Hmmm :banghead:

Former policeman arrested in Alps murder has 'violent temper' and collection of weapons

Guns and ammunition were found at the homes of a former policeman arrested in the Alps murder mystery case, but French prosecutors appeared to dash hopes of a breakthrough in the quadruple murder as they said it was unlikely the man, described as having a "violent temper" would be charged

Sounds like it could be a hate crime, which is the first thing I thought of when I heard the story and found out the family was from Iraq. then I switch to the inheritance angle when I found out about the brother/dad

The police have linked the killing to the murder of another Tourist in France in July who was shot dead while his children slept in the family car.

:)

That seems to fit the person now arrested like a glove. However, according to the French newspaper Le Monde, his DNA does not fit the DNA found at the location of the AH & SM crime.

(in French, ADN = DNA)

They have a 'map' of the shooting as well. The shooter ended up hitting the eldest girl with the gun because he ran out of bullets.
I feel for the father, he made it back to the car, but the girl was left outside. I hope he was not aware of that during his last moments. :-(

I'll try to put the map here, in case this does not work, here is a link:

I guess it was a dead end, he was released

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/feb/21/french-police-release-man-arrested-alps-murders :

The arrest came three months after the release of an efit showing a bearded man in a helmet. But although investigators said the 48-year-old bore a strong resemblance to the motorcyclist seen near the crime scene, the two helmets in his possession did not match the efit.

Among the weapons seized from his house was a Luger handgun, but the prosecutor said it was not the same P06 model used in the Hilli shootings. And a motorcycle belonging to the former policeman did not match the description of the vehicle seen by two forestry workers on the day of the shootings.

Finally, DNA samples taken from the scene did not match the arrested man.

"The murder weapon has not been found, nor the helmet, nor the motorbike described by several witnesses and sought by investigators," Maillaud said in the statement. He added that the investigation into the murders would continue.

Well, who would have thought?
If I'd happen to chat with forestry workers after shooting several people nearby, I'd get rid of the weapon, the helmet and the motorbike asap.
And I would not use my own, unless I had acted on a sudden urge.

But hey, that's me.

It is a pity that nobody seems to have asked the Prosecutor why he expects that those objects will still be in the shooter's possession.

I wonder if this case will ever be solved. I think the act was random, in the sense that the shooter planned to kill one or more tourists (?) but not specifically the AH-family or SM.

News from Daily Mail and Dauphine Liberé:

A French former soldier questioned over the Alps Murders case was today found dead following an apparent suicide.

The 50-year-old, who has not been named, had been spoken to by detectives investigating the bloodbath which claimed the lives of three members of the Al-Hilli family, from Surrey.

A parachutist and trained marksman who fought with the Foreign Legion, he left a ‘six or seven page note’ saying he was ‘disturbed’ by the questioning because it ‘made him feel like a suspect’, said Eric Maillaud, the prosecutor in Annecy, eastern France.

While every detail of the Al-Hilli’s lives has been made public by the French, very little has been said about Mr Mollier, the dead cyclist.

But the Frenchman was involved in frictions of his own over a multi-million pounds chain of pharmacies which was being transferred to his girlfriend, Claire Schutz, 30.
Detectives have also uncovered romantic entanglements which Mollier was trying to keep secret – another fact which might suggest a local motive and killer.

Zaid Al-Hilli has a cast iron alibi - he was in Worthing, West Sussex, on the day of the murder.
He is convinced Mollier was the real target, saying last October: ‘They are covering up for someone in France in that region and they know it. There is something more to it locally.’

From Maynice's link: James Thompson, an American dentist was the ex-husband of murder victim Iqbal Al-Hilli.

The short relationship was 'never spoken about' and James T. died in Natchez, Mississippi, on exactly the same day as the Alps killings.

The official cause of death was a heart attack, said Lt Col Vinnemann, but 'we still haven't had a response to certain questions,' he added, saying that 'we have discovered some astonishing things.'
