Hazel North search: Police cordon set up in Kilmarnock park

Police have cordoned off part of a country park in Kilmarnock in the search for a missing woman from Fife.

A tent has also been erected in Dean Park

He urged Ms North, or anyone who who knows where she is, to contact police.

"Hazel, if you are out there, can you please get in touch with police as soon as you can and let us know that you are ok," he said

Oh no no no. I thought I'd made a mistake to be worried about this young girl, after the sighting in Stranraer. I thought I had got it all wrong....I didn't even check earlier, because I was so sure then it was all a false alarm. I was even feeling a bit cross that Hazel wasn't contacting family...

Poor, beautiful Hazel. I'm so sorry. My deepest condolences to her loved ones.

Police are questioning John Davies, 25, as a witness.

It's now on the front page of Sky News.

RIP Hazel. :rose:

Me too. Although at first I accepted she had been murdered and taken out to the woods. I always thought those open gardens were an unlikely hiding place for a body.

Condolences are being left on the FB page for Dunfermline.

A 25 year old man has now been arrested. He'll appear in court tomorrow, in connection with Hazel's death. I am guessing it may be the same 25 year old man who has been held for questioning...

Eta: Hazel's body was found in a quiet park but very close to a house. You can see it on the left here. Odd.

John Davis, 25, was Hazel's boyfriend and was last supposed to have been staying with a friend in Kilmarnock. He was arrested and held first on an 'unrelated matter' and then arrested 'in connection with' Hazel's death, after her body was found. No other stated charges yet though.

So it sounds like I may have guessed right about someone already being in custody which is why police didn't appeal for sightings of anyone they wanted to speak to. This makes me think he may have revealed the location of Hazel's body?

Davis' mother hasn't seen him for six years but says he is a 'good boy'. Poor woman wasn't even aware of Hazel's case, let alone that her son had been arrested. What a shock that must have been.

There is also a little info in the article about some FB posts. Sad really.

ETA: He was supposed to appear in court today, but surely it's a little late now? I haven't seen any upddates about it.

From looking at the photos at the Mail's link, there isn't any vehicle access where Hazel was found. Just a footpath with a sign warning of a steep embankment.

It makes me think she was murdered where she was found, which again makes the proximity of the house really odd. Unless it is just a museum or other public building in the park, unoccupied at night?

This is just 5 miles from where I stay. Today and yesterday I passed the scene as seen in Zwiebel's post #26. The location of the forensic tents is baffling to me. They are pitched on a slope, at the foot of the slope there is a footpath with railings, these have also been tarpaulin-ed over.
This is not a quiet park, its well used by dog walkers and there is a football pitch and pavillion about 100 - 200 yards away. The location of the "tents" is very visible from the main road out of Kilmarnock to Glasgow.
I cannot get my head round how the perp managed to get Hazel a third of the way down a slope in a shallow grave - perhaps 10 yards maybe less (i'm hopeless with distances) from a well used footpath which is also tarpaulin covered at the foot of the slope. Why no one noticed anything before yesterday is beyond my comprehension until, hopefully, further details are released.
RIP Hazel xx
