Although it doesn't mention it in this report, from memory of the phone records, I believe he called Allison's parents after he'd phoned police.

May 04, 2012

Speaking exclusively to The Courier-Mail yesterday, Mr Dickie and wife Priscilla recalled how life had become a nightmare since receiving the call from their son-in-law Gerard on Friday two weeks ago.

"He (Mr Baden-Clay) just said she went for a walk and she didn't return - that's all he said," Mr Dickie said.

How did GBC know Allison went for a walk ? Didn't he say that he slept all night and she was not there when he woke ?

I know I've said it before, but after Nige's stuff, it could do with repeat...

Gerard is either Qlds luckiest man, or the most unluckiest......

If he didn't murder Alison, then someone, out of the goodness of their heart, knowing the trouble Gerard was in fiscally and sexually came and did the job for him, quietly, while he was asleep, and not only that, they got rid of the body , too... luckily NOT too invisible, because this mystery person wants him to collect his insurance. Now.. that's lucky.

Or, he is unlucky to the max.. he plans to leave his wife, he puts this in writing to his mistress, he is in debt until kingdom come with no way out of it, his mistress has set a deadline for him, he , himself has set a deadline for himself about the unwanted wife, he makes enquiries about her life insurance, he gets bit by a caterpillar the day before, he removes chunks of his face while innocently shaving before he discovers that this wife has gone missing!! And he, poor unlucky bugger , is suspected of her murder!..

And his "mate" wouldn't lend him $400,000 no matter how many tears he turned on...............

Frankly, I have no idea why this hinting at suicide is gonna help their boy Gerard.. someone still had to transport Alisons body to the Kholo Bridge... and Gerard has said he isn't guilty of that, either..

I think these..... people.... (to avoid modsnip) will push the line that because of suicidality she took a belly full of drugs, went wandering and then met foul play, followed by a trip to Kholo. As others have noted tho ... Why no theft of jewellery, sign of sexual assault ? Why no warning to locals from police that 'there's a homocidal maniac on the loose, lock your doors?' Dumb AND evil.. Nasty combination :(
Imo

As if you'd call your parents that soon, honestly .. if that was me and I was Gerald having an affair and knowing my wife was going to a conference that day where my mistress was going to be, I'd assume she'd decided to leave me 'holding the baby' for the day and had left me in the lurch. There's no way I'd think my wife was genuinely missing so soon.

Agreed! And I am fairly sure my in laws wouldn't come racing round in their pyjamas if I was half an hour late home from my walk - all so strange!

The Second part for NBC

4.30pm: Nigel Baden-Clay said three lots of police arrived at the Baden-Clay home on Brookfield Rd on the morning of April 20, 2012.

Mr Baden-Clay said he drove home in his daughter Olivia Walton’s car but became unclear when it came to the chronology on whether he had walked to the Brookfield State School to pick it up.

He said he did not remember seeing Ms Baden-Clay’s parents at the house that morning.

“Very close with my son and I loved Allison as a daughter in law,” he said.

“They were a very private couple and we were unaware of the depression Allison was suffering until probably four or five years into their marriage.”

He said the couple seemed to be happily married in 2012.

Mr Baden-Clay said he did not talk to his son about the state of his real estate business.

In cross-examination by Michael Byrne QC, for Baden-Clay, Mr Baden-Clay said he was employed as a salesperson in his son’s business and also did the accounts for the business.

He said he had a salesperson license and upgraded it to a real estate agent license.

Mr Baden-Clay said his wife also had a real estate license but mostly did administration work and “prospecting”, or phoning new clients.

“Less on a business footing in later years, of course, because apart from the signs I had no further input into the business,” he said.

He said that fairly early in the marriage of Baden-Clay and his wife, they were asked not to show up and visit without phoning first.

“They didn’t readily share with us any aspects of their marriage or their relationship,” he said.

Mr Baden-Clay said he became aware of his daughter-in-law’s depression when she phoned his wife Elaine one day.

“Elaine explained to me that Allison had broken down in tears and told her that she was suffering from some illness and she didn’t know what was wrong with her and Elaine had advised her to seek help,” he said.

He said his wife recommended Ms Baden-Clay see a GP they trusted, who referred her on to a psychiatric specialist.

Mr Baden-Clay said he saw manifestations of his daughter-in-law’s depression.

“Often when we would go round to the house we would find the curtains or blinds drawn and the house in semi-darkness and frequently Allison would be laying on the sofa, that was the sort of manifestation we experienced,” he said.

He said despite the couple’s desire for privacy, he and his wife always felt welcome in their home.

Mr Baden-Clay said his new grandson was born on April 18, 2012.

He said the Baden-Clay girls came to his place at Durness St for a barbecue on the evening of April 19, 2012.

He told the jury he did not speak to his son or daughter-in-law that night.

Mr Baden-Clay agreed his son called him about 6.45am on April 20, 2012.

He said his son immediately went to search for his wife when he got to the house on Brookfield Rd.

Mr Baden-Clay said his son was “anxious and worried” about his wife when he arrived.

“He knew she was going to a real estate seminar … ,’’ he said.

He said the first police to arrive were two constables who were there for around 20 minutes before two sergeants arrived and later, two officers from Homicide.

Mr Baden-Clay said he received a phone call from Ms Walton at 10am who asked him to pick up one of the Baden-Clay girls from school because she was feeling a bit anxious.

The trial will resume on Monday at 10am.

ha.. that's why I am curious as to who would , and will be Gerards defence witnesses.. he owes money to practically everyone he knows, and he asked everyone he knows for money in those last months...

none of whom have a prayer of getting it repaid.. ..

A huge thanks to drsleuth, PrimeSuspect and Amee for your continual updates today. It's very much appreciated.

I can't believe we're going to have another three or more weeks of this. :scared:

Aww Thanks Makara and a big thank you to you as well.

A BIG WS TEAM EFFORT

:rocker:

I am not trying to underestimate the crime of GBC, but regarding contacting his parents before Allison's,NBC were much closer than the Dickie's who lived on the Gold Coast, and I don't suppose he was on the top of Dickies's Hit Parade, he had been cheating on their daughter - won't engender any fond feels with me either.

Nigel says Allison phoned his wife one day and said she wanted to see her. Elaine went over. #badenclay

I refuse to believe that for one minute !
We only have his 'word'.....

4.10pm: The 27th witness in the trial is Gerard Baden-Clay’s father, Nigel Baden-Clay.

Mr Baden-Clay corrected Crown prosecutor Todd Fuller QC when he mispronounced Gerard’s name. “We christened him Gerard,” he said.

Sniped and bolded by me respectively :)

I am completely dumbfounded by this. REALLY? does it really actually matter right at this point in time- giving witness testimony of your son in his murder trial of his wife..how they pronounce his name-I don't know- would you really bother correcting the crown prosceutor on the pronounciation of your sons name? To me it shows either complete arrogance or he really is out of touch with the reality and gravity of the situation..maybe both. MOO

Thanks for all the updates today everyone. Not sure how I'm going to keep up with it all over the next 3 weeks. Have spent forever now trying to catch up on just todays proceedings, lol. I know it doesn't look like they are getting the hard stuff yet- but I really feel its all about establishing the case at the moment and the hard stuff is still to unfold.

need a break.

He said he noticed a cut on his cheek.

“I said ‘what is that?’ and he said ‘I cut myself shaving this morning in my hurry to get ready’,’’ he said.
ready for what

I thought it was because the razor was blunt

And why would Allison confide in Elaine??? GMAB

Nigel says they often found the house in semi darkness, Allison lying on the couch. "That was the sort of manifestation we did experience."

Nigel: We were always welcome in their home. #badenclay

Bloody hell ! No wonder they had to phone before pitching up.
That comment is nasty ! Nasty !

This is what I was thinking - she was a busy woman out and about a lot - it would not be unreasonable to forget she had something on or something she forgot to mention?

When? Sept 2011 onwards?

If the fact that Toni and Allison were scheduled to attend the same conference, I think it would have been more realistic for GBC to imagine that
Allison didn't return because she had decided against attending the conference and avoiding the confrontation and that she was waiting for him to leave the houses so she didn't have to answer any questions. That would be much more plausible to me them searching when she is 30 minutes late.
