The Shelbyville Police Department had roads surrounding the 1200 block of Elm Street blocked off all day Tuesday as investigators looked at a home where a woman was last seen four years ago... Search dogs arrived around dinnertime...
Scott Schuck says he was 33-year-old Rebecca Cassidy’s boyfriend of five years and that officers showed up at his home Tuesday morning with a warrant...
Investigators won’t say what led them to the house Tuesday morning, or what they found, if anything. They will only say it’s “an ongoing investigation.”
They began digging on an Elm Street property again Wednesday morning. They had dug up several spots in the same man's yard Tuesday, looking for clues in Rebecca Cassidy's 2010 disappearance.
Crews removed the back yard fence so that they could begin their search efforts. Shortly after 8:00 am Wednesday, the University of Indianapolis forensics team arrived to assist with the investigation.
Police are still not offering any other details about their search and investigation for the missing woman.
Officials still will not comment on the case. Schuck is scheduled to appear before a judge on Thursday.
Wednesday afternoon, officers with the Shelbyville Police Department said they found what appeared to be human remains on the Elm Street property.
The police perimeter was scaled back Thursday afternoon. Officers took away the barricades blocking surrounding streets. Police tape still surrounds Schuck’s home and a tent still covers the mounds of dirt in the backyard.
The police chief says Thursday or Friday will likely be their last day there.
Schuck’s ex-wife was at the courthouse Thursday and said they divorced 14 years ago and have a daughter in her 20’s together. She said they are all shocked and confused.
Court documents reveal Schuck confessed to police that he got into an argument with Cassidy, struck her, and strangled her and then buried her in his yard...
Police said the remains still have to be identified, which could take several weeks.
