Roman Polanski seeks dismissal of charges

France's Minister Of Culture weighed in saying "The time has now come for calm".:waitasec:

This from a country who harbored Ira Einhorn and whose many residents are Mumidiots.

Please, please, please, please let him give another interview like that one where he explained that everyone wants to *advertiser censored** young girls. Ya know in case anyone forgets who crosses paths with him.

Um. Trino, again. So that means anyone who is convicted of a sex crime can just FLEE the country and not pay a price for it? By your logic, then anyone in the state of California of any race can just expect to flee the country and not have to worry about a thing.

NO ONE can evade the law like that. NO one.

Again, it doesn't matter what the victim says. or whether she was financially compensated. The law is the law is the law.

Whatever. It wouldn't be worth a million dollars, which is what it would cost, to bring him back for a trial. With his money and a good attorney he wouldn't get much of a sentence. Guess you would feel better if the US spent a million dollars, and he got a few months in jail?

Whatever it takes to take the child rapist back here. As I said, a 44 year old man drugged raped and sodomized a thirteen year old girl. Then he FLED the country. You know what would happen to say a poor black man had he done this and fled the country? He would have been brought back too.

Yes, and when the cowardly criminal fled the country,he had the GALL to go on television in Europe and said that she seduced him. That's what all pedophiles say about their young victims. They can't take any responsibility.

Well, he will never get the chance to come back to the US now. I think this is not the end of the story.

'Filmmaker Roman Polanski will attend a court hearing in Poland next week that will consider a U.S. extradition request over a 1977 child sex crime conviction, his lawyer said on Tuesday.

A spokeswoman for the court, in the southern city of Krakow, said the hearing would take place on Feb. 25.

Polanski, who lives in France and is preparing to make a film in Poland, will attend. "In line with the declaration that was made before, Mr. Roman Polanski will appear in the court," attorney Jan Olszewski said.'...

Perhaps, like Whoopi Goldberg, they don't consider giving drugs to, and sodomizing a 13 year old child as 'rape-rape'. :waiting: At least not in Hollywood, where apparently our silly little bourgeois American laws should not apply, "We're a different kind of society, we see things differently ... would I want my 14-year-old having sex with somebody? Not necessarily, no."

Polanski appeared in court Wednesday to give evidence, following an opening statement from the prosecutor, court spokeswoman Beata Gorszczyk told CNN.

The court was closed to the media Wednesday but will be open for any further hearings, she said.

CNN's Polish affiliate TVN reported the hearing was later postponed until April. Part of the reason, TVN reported, was the arrival of new documents concerning the United States' attempt to have the director extradited from Switzerland in 2009.

Many of the documents, which arrived on Tuesday, are in German, meaning that the Kraków District Court is obliged to translate them.

Regardless of the Polish court's eventual ruling, the country's justice minister has the right to veto the decision.

Kept noticing his name on the news scroll, and had to google it.

Warsaw (AFP) - The woman raped by filmmaker Roman Polanski decades ago when she was 13 is ready to testify during the Oscar winner's extradition hearing in Poland, his lawyer said Thursday.

He seriously needs to account for this crime. Why these countries have refused to extradite him, or why hollyweird continues to support him is beyond me.

It's interesting to see the difference in how Roman Polanski is treated vs Bill Cosby. It would seem both drugged and raped at least one woman, Polanski's being a mere 13 years old at the time, and yet he's still allowed to work, he's revered by many and gets nominated for oscars. Bill Cosby? Yea, not so much.

Yes interesting. But with Cosby it was an avalanche of allegations (almost 60 accusers so far, including some who were teenagers at the time). Plus, the fact that he had capitalized on his "America's Dad" family man image. He became a cultural icon. Cosby even took it upon himself to be an outspoken moralist. In fact, this was the reason a judge first released excerpts of his damaging 2005 deposition. Bill Cosby's PR nightmare.

He will forever be remembered as the little coward who ran away. That's a far greater punishment than a couple of years in prison would have been.
