I went to bed last night with a MASSIVE headache. It was actually back of the neck pain unlike anything I'd every experienced. I felt as if I was going to vomit too. I feared I had meningitis or something. I took ibuprofen and couldn't even use a pillow because the pillow hurt it. These are soft down pillows too. I actually wondered for a moment if I should go the hospital. I probably would have if I hadn't felt like I couldn't drive safely. Fortunately, I was able to fall asleep because I was sooooooooooo exhausted and the pain was gone in the morning. Just hoping that's the last time I experience it. No idea what caused it so I'm happy to blame it on the BIRD! lol

WTF? I did too. It was midafternoon today before the headache went away.

....just wanted to take time out to thank you all for the work you continue to produce! Miss Muffet, take it easy, this stuff wears on even us veterans. Don't burn yourself out, we need your brain power on this one! Thank you all again for your hard work and dedication. We will solve this case.

This is what I woke up thinking about the other day (LOL) I know it's a "hoot" (from Hooters).

I guess the point we need to remember is this is not a photograph picture so it could just be artistic license with the design of this tee. It is also hard to understand the orientation of the point of view (ie: whether we are to be looking up at the bird at a 45 degree angle or a 90 degree). I don't know to be honest.

My apologies if this has already been addressed (I went on vacation for a few days, came back and this thread has just exploded! I am trying to catch up and reply as I go... wow! you all are amazing)

I am a lifelong Renoite and we definitely had a Hooters for a while back when I was young in the early 90s. It was across the street from a large hotel/casino called the Clarion at the time, now the Atlantis. I always wanted to eat there because I loved owls but my mom never took me for some reason...

There's no reddish hue because the shirt was originally a simple design of a bird drawn with black lines on a white t-shirt. Any color you're seeing now, aside from the orange sun, is simply dirt.

Agree it was a naturalistic drawing on a white (maybe "buff gray") tee. But disagree that there was no brownish coloring to the original bird in this print. :)
Exactly. The wings are not an owls.
We're on the same page, here. :)

We can't get something definitive because it's not a photograph and its not a drawing made for a bird textbook. Since it's a work of art, it's not going to be an entirely accurate depiction. But Red Tailed Hawk is the top contender.

True, and I suspected this might be the case as it's an artistic rendering--not necessarily scientific, although it has a realistic quality to it.

I'm very much hoping they get t-shirt DNA results back that will help ID this victim, as trying to discern exactly which bird of prey it is seems like such a comparably weak clue.

Just finished an expedition to our local Half Price Books and a Barnes & Noble without any success. I did find a neat art book of top wildlife illustrators from the 1980s and will do some googling on them tonite. Like you, I'm really developing an appreciation for beautiful wildlife art--almost bought the book!

The guy at the bird sanctuary just messaged me that it could be a Cooper Hawk. I have never heard of it. I also go a response back for the man I email who I thought was an artist, turns out he writes for National Geographic and is a bird expert. His assistant is passing on the information to him as he may have some ideas. So we wait. Hope miss Muffett hears fro the artist's son, sounds like that could be the winner here.

I was looking for a book on "collecting tee shirts." Our stores did not have any, but if any of you have a Half Price in town, it might be worth a look. The 80s are now considered a collectible era.

OMG remember the bird flu? and don't say "flew where? " LOL hope you feel better, you and Miss Muffett. I am enjoying doing these searches. I love it, it is a challenge for sure.

I was able to date the drawing of this dead artist to the 80s via the books. I had seen the drawing on the internet, and then found it in the books yesterday. Let's hope his son has a good memory. He's old enough he wouldn't have been a child at the time.

BBM
Did you find the drawing on the t shirt??????? If so, can you post it for us?????

This Oregon Birds of Prey shirt with the blue triangle is EXACTLY how I pictured what was on the shirt - thanks!!
that one stood out for me too. It was the only one in the drive position I have seen.

If it's not a hawk or an owl, I don't care where it flu...

Great that you contacted them! Excellent.
I have had a juvenile cooper's hawk visiting my yard last year and lately again. I thought of it but the bars across it's tail feathers are very thick and well defined unlike our bird. Plus the Cooper's is an accipiter and thus the tail is quite a bit longer like the harriers. (for the record I also regularly get the Peregrine Falcon, the Red Tail, the Northern Harrier and a smallish hawk that I think is a Sharp Shinned. Oh and a Great Blue Heron!)

Thank you sooooooo much for visiting your local used book store! When I have time, I will check out other locations in my area. I feel the more used book stores we hit to flip through books from the 70s and 80s, the greater our odds.

This is fantastic. He'll have serious connections. Try to encourage him to use them.
